Hahaha, mate, I'd be this annoyed about our tactics regardless of the results....... I seriously think we can play far far far far _faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar_ better than we are now, and than we did in the second half of last season.  My fear right now is that this will be V2 all over again, which is what we're quickly sliding towards.  An even bigger fear than that is that we will have a positively rubbish ACL campaign, thus consigning the amazing achievement of last season to history with no awesome postscript.

Don't worry chief, they'll fire up once you get back.  :p

11daystill home
12days till adelaide and we are gonna treat perth with no compassion i was hoping for this blowout to be against a quality team but it is coming. trust me i know all.
Is it worth mentioning we are still 4th
im predicting 7 goals in next 2 games . :eek:verhead: :eek:verhead:

Nar its not v2 we can score in brothals now ;D
its at the least exciting to watch
v2 no offense v4 no defense
serious mate she'll be right

regarding acl you know that we will bye huge for that
question is the a salary cap during acl??????????????????????

mum reckons their 2nd goal was way offside and the crowd went nuts about it... is this true? coz i see no mention of it on here, and my bro said it was because they scored after the 4 minutes stoppage time, despite the fact that the time given to the crowd is a minimum and a guide...

5:04. That shows Brebner was onside (AT wasnt but he didnt interfere). Wilko's fault 100% IMO

yes, Porter had a very good game but if you look at Archie's second goal you can see that Porter should have prevented it. When three Mariner' players are surrounding Brebner there is no need for Porter to ball watch, all he had to do was to pick up Archie. Great crosses (Beckham could not have done better) and confident game from Porter but no composure in defence when it mattered. Similiar to when we gifted Sydney their second. Would have thought with a Socceroo legend in Tobin we would have had that sorted by now. As for the twat who complains about long ball - it gave us thirteen more shots, and nine more on goal than the supposed football of Newcastle. Porter, Bozza, Jedi and Simon the pick. Have yet to see any end product from the dancing feet of Caceres. And why did McKinna wait until 15 minutes to go to bring on McAllister? and why for Petrovski? Mcallister should have come on for Osman we should have pressured the ten men with three strikers. Should have had the confidence to go for it. No guts no glory.

Just putting it out there it could ov been a 4 or 5-2 game
we would of still been usin same style but with a bit of luck
could of spanked the leagues "best" team

THAT was the game I saw.

There's no way we were 100% long ball. But (despite the bleatings by other fans compared to their teams) about our unattractive football, that ALL A-League teams aren't guilty of this.

Just in and I think it fair to say we have just seen the V4 champions and it isnt us. Melb were a class above us TBH.

Bozza - Solid, not much he could do about the 1st goal, couldnt see the 2nd.

Porter - Can those he think he isnt good enough now please shut up. Brilliant from him.

Wilko - Must surely be close to getting benched. Enough said

Boogs - Mr Dependable again

Bojic - Quiet tonight but a class act

Ossie - Worked hard, still getting back to fitness

Hutcho - V poor

Jedi - without him, we would be f**ked, another awesome game

Car chair arse - awful, anonymous, lightweight. Not 5% of the player Tommy was for us. Waste of money

Saso - Should never have been subbed, we keep hoofing the ball to his head not his feet - why??

Matty - MOM by miles. Awesome performance

Porter was ok going forward but was roasted by Archie at RB and was caught out of position so many times, he's not a RB!  No way did he have a great game like some are suggesting.

Wilko wasn't as bad as what you made out, and Caceres was involved a fair bit, had an ok game, to say he was anonymous is rubbish

Rest of the summary was about right IMO

Simple fact is we threw that away, always allow teams to get a sniff and then f**k it up

Firstly the positives.  We are a tough hard working side who battle well. Matt Simon is improving all the time and is starting to be a real handful giving us 4 good quality strikers.

Now the negatives....our defence is dodgy and has an alarming lack of pace.
Porter works hard but is a train wreck in defence. He has no concept of how to mark or defend. 10 yo's can be coached to put their bodies between the attacker and the goal why can't he grasp that concept. Must never play in the backs again (and I said that last time he cost us points at RB last season)!
Boogs is easily the best defender but needs a massive amount of speed training as he looks like he's running in treacle. We need to player a sweeper behind him not a flat back four. Made some super tackles.
Wilko....I like this guy but he is so dumb at times with his decision making. Also too slow. Should be at RB or on the bench.
Bojic...good player great block to save an almost certain goal. Needs to focus for full 90.

Osman...terrible effort. He is not worthy of a starting spot on his current form.

Jedi...top effort but distribution is poor. Play to feet Jedi.

Caceras..quality player unlucky not to score. Great signing who will only get better.

Hutcho...not as bad as some are making and did some good things but also guilty of very dumb options at times. How long before Gumps is fit again???

Simon...MOM. Great effort and enjoyed his hack on Muscat.

Sasho...worked hard and again very unlucky not to score.

Bozza....quality keeper.

Defence is major problem that needs to be fixed. Defending on both goals was comical. Melbourne were targeting our back two knowing our defence is static and their forwards could out pace us at will. Only Bozza and the linesman kept us in the game and although we should have won 2.1 the reality is they could have given us another 5.2 mauling.

Still Victory are a top side and we stuck it to them for much of the game and I would have been happy with a point before the game.

Wombat - I think you are right about Porter. He had a good game but he is a Midfielder not a RB and Archie has owned him now a couple of times....

Why is Ossie not playing RB and Porter in the Mid?

Hutch was ordinary - Hence the reason you are asking when Gumps is back. His form is significantly down from the last 3 seasons

I actually thought we didn't play as much long ball then we have previously. Matty is strong in the air and perhaps that why we bomb it in there sometimes, same as the Tards using their speed upfront and bombing the ball for Allslopps and Archie to run onto....

Unfortuneately, I had to go to an engagement party and I watched it on TV but Wilko and Hutch have been uterly useless this year and last nights game enforced this opinion.

Serious is right to rant and rave on about this game and I couldn't agree more with his assessment of our performance this game and this season so far. Lawrie needs to make some big decisions and bench hutch (although I know he won't) because we don't two defensive midfielders.

No depth in our defence atm so wilko probably has to start (I'd still pick him before stringers) but strip him of the captaincy ASAP.

The Jedi should be our skipper, he uses the force for one reason but he is far beyond any other player in our squad that it is not even funny. Giving him the captaincy may entice him to stay on is season 5 as well.

Watching on TV also change my opinion about Carceras, he was everywhere in the second half and deserved a goal... again Serious was spot on about this guy, he tried everything he could and worked his ass off to get us a result.

Lawrie needs to make some big decisions this week and this should test his managerial credentials because times are tough for the mariners atm and we need a leader that is going to make the big calls for the good of this team and its die hards.

Why is ossie playing?
My mates and I cracked up laughing at this guy last night, tried some step over magic a la Figo or Ronaldinho and the defender just took the ball off him (actually don't know it was funny or just sad). I've never seen a bloke get pushed off possession so easily in my life.

Greenpole and Bear (because I know you love Ossie) how long are you giving this guy to get fit before you say he is shite. One good cross per game as a winger is not good enough and that all he produced last night... although I will conceed he delivered some decent corners

One positive:Really happy that the Mariners took it to the Tards when they were down a man(did not happen against Bling).

We were out played before that red card(Bozza kept us in it), but turned the game around when we had the advantage.

Negative: This season the Mariners have not been able to hold a lead.(I can't see the team winning by a single goal this season, if they keep playing this way). Against scum we conceded 90th min, against Roar we only won because we had 3 goals against them. If we were only 1-0 they would have drawn or beaten us. Melbourne game Shattering.

Ossie was great in V3 before the injury but to answer the question who or what is the alternative in our squad? If Clarke was fit then I am sure he would have started but apart from that we have DApuzzo and Stringers........ No real alternative but for him to start

All I hear is how good Ossie was in V2 (How'd we go that year by the way) and V3 before his injury... I think we did ok without him last year didn't we.

Not disagreeing but as I asked - with who the gaffer had available - who would you have played in front of him....

Overall agree with your summary axcept for Boogs ........ way to slow Wilko had a poor but not as bad a game as people are hinting ..... just made a huge bluender at the end.

For me Porter to right mid, Clarky back to RB, The young kid David to LB, and Bojic to a CB role. Jedi and Hutch need to lift ......... especially in ball distribution.

HUUUUUUGE BLUNDER is correct and realistically as Captain and a senior squad member he should have known better on two fronts

1) When the keeper calls it leave it - especially with the time of only 30 seconds left
2) Get up and out - don't keep guys onside

Both he and Boogs have a tendency to keep guys onside - something that needs work.

To be fair though - apart from those two issues he had a good game....

You can't put Pedj at CB - he just doesn't have the height

The best defensive line up we could have would be Pedj, Wilko, Boogs and Heff....(with Clarkey on the Bench)

Porter to LM, Bojic RB(who was bought in as right sided player) and Dapuzzo to LB. Although I'm sure will disagree. Porter's two crosses came from Ossie's position. He's faster and a better passer, just needs to work on his first touch

My bad
I said Porter had a brilliant game and I mainly meant attacking wise.
Considering he is a midfielder (some say an attacking mid), it was a big ask in defence
I suspect he was RB and not Ossie because of his pace (Osman is way too slow).

BUt yesterdya showed me wow! How far Porter has come in 2 years. I didnt rate him at all.

Same he was a player i wouldnt have even put into the Youth squad.
He has a great long ball pass is top class for the A-league.

Dapuzzo - scares the crap out of me............ and against the TARDS he was never going to get a starting role....
