yes, Porter had a very good game but if you look at Archie's second goal you can see that Porter should have prevented it. When three Mariner' players are surrounding Brebner there is no need for Porter to ball watch, all he had to do was to pick up Archie. Great crosses (Beckham could not have done better) and confident game from Porter but no composure in defence when it mattered. Similiar to when we gifted Sydney their second. Would have thought with a Socceroo legend in Tobin we would have had that sorted by now. As for the twat who complains about long ball - it gave us thirteen more shots, and nine more on goal than the supposed football of Newcastle. Porter, Bozza, Jedi and Simon the pick. Have yet to see any end product from the dancing feet of Caceres. And why did McKinna wait until 15 minutes to go to bring on McAllister? and why for Petrovski? Mcallister should have come on for Osman we should have pressured the ten men with three strikers. Should have had the confidence to go for it. No guts no glory.

Regarding why sub dylan for sash from the sounds of things on radio sash was getting way to caught up in the niggling and emotion during all that red card and dodgy tackles period of them game sounded like he got close to getting cards or to just for being the shit stirrer that he is i'm guessin lawrie didnt wanna risk him.

I had a very very bad feeling if Sasho stayed on!
And when he fired up he started playing crap including blocking Caceres' shot

tw does any1 get the feeling Bojic thinks he is 190cm?
He missed quite a few headers. I know he is short but he shouldnt committ?
I dunno. He is taler than Cannavaro but you dont see Cannavaro miss that many
just my 2 cents. My first ever critiscism from him- apart from that he is a machine!

HUUUUUUGE BLUNDER is correct and realistically as Captain and a senior squad member he should have known better on two fronts

1) When the keeper calls it leave it - especially with the time of only 30 seconds left
2) Get up and out - don't keep guys onside

I couldn't have said it better myself.

With 15 seconds to go, some leadership was needed. Instead, all we got was inadequacy. A few weeks back I thought some of the criticism Wilko received was a tad harsh, but what happened last night was just inexcusable.

As for Hutch, I'm slowly starting to worry that the A-League is starting to pass him by. His foul winning routine isn't being bought by the ref's anymore, and his lack of pace showed in that effort he fluffed last night. Improvement is needed!

On a whole though, we need to keep in mind that not many teams will be taking points off Melbourne this year. Also, we are still in a finals position with a game against Perth next week (which we better bloody win!).

I won't be too concerned this season if we just cruise it into the latter half of the season into say 4th position, and then blitz it for the finals and more importantly Asia.

3rd or 4th is doable for us IF (and its a big if) we can play for the whole game.

4 points lost against Scum and Melb could come back to haunt us

Based on the other teams performances who do you think at this stage is looking the goods?????/
MELBOURNE
SYDNEY
MARINERS
NEWCASTLE/QLD/ADLEIDE
WELLINGTON
PERTH

I know teams change thru the season some improve some slump but even as "bad" as we are apparently playing whos gunna beat us????????????

Keep ya heads up marinators we dont have a whole lot to stress about even with our defense our attack will ensure 3/4th

Just in and I think it fair to say we have just seen the V4 champions and it isnt us. Melb were a class above us TBH.

Bozza - Solid, not much he could do about the 1st goal, couldnt see the 2nd.

Porter - Can those he think he isnt good enough now please shut up. Brilliant from him.

Wilko - Must surely be close to getting benched. Enough said

Boogs - Mr Dependable again

Bojic - Quiet tonight but a class act

Ossie - Worked hard, still getting back to fitness

Hutcho - V poor

Jedi - without him, we would be f**ked, another awesome game

Car chair arse - awful, anonymous, lightweight. Not 5% of the player Tommy was for us. Waste of money

Saso - Should never have been subbed, we keep hoofing the ball to his head not his feet - why??

Matty - MOM by miles. Awesome performance

I essentially agree with your assessment but just want to make a few comments.

1. Bozza was more than solid... I thought it was a great performance. For me it was highlighted by his two saves, his work coming outside the box and his clearences. That is a BIG difference from Danny - Bozza's clearences actually find players in space upfield.

2. Totally agree about Hutcho... what's the solution???

3. I think MOM was a toss up between Jedi and Matty. I just loved Jedi's midfield domination. His presence and poise was so impressive. For me he just shaded Matty for MOM honours, but it's a close call... a toss of the coin.
.
To add further to the comments it was 1-1 when Alsop was one on one with Bozza and Alsop waited for him to moove but Bozza dint but stoped and looked at him forcing Alsop to shoot .
We all seen him saved it with his foot.

This last year would have seen Danny racing of his line and Alsop sidestepping him and scoring low in the corner? We have the experience use it and listen to your Keeper even if you are the captain that is all I can say about last nights game and that Bosnich has to get an extension till Asia now waiting untill tommorow will to late.

when watching that game i felt that we needed Vidmar

I think your right Radinho, we would have to be the youngest backline in the comp (Bosnich aside, sorry Bozza) and are really lacking experience and mongrel at the back. Wilkinson should be leading by example but it would be a lot easier for him if he had someone like Viddy beside him (no disrespect to Boogs, the way wilkinsons playing if we had Viddy he would be on the bench)

I dont understand all the doom and gloom though?? I thought we played well last night and ruined it for ourselves at the end. If we put that performance in against all the teams this year we will be there come finals time. Having watched it now on TV some of the passing we put together was really good and with some luck could have had a few more.
Thinking back to how melbourne dominated adelaide with ten men i am happy with the way we played against the favourites.

Oh and props to LM for his tactics, taking it to Melbourne like they did at the start was brilliant, the high pressure marking made Melbourne look uncomfortable the first 45.

MELBOURNE- V4 League Champions. Dunno if they can win finals!
SYDNEY- the overated team of league yet again. They will fall hard! (ie. not 1st, probs 3rd) They are set though for a 2nd/3rd spot finish. They could win finals again though
MARINERS- if we get our act together 2nd for sure IMO, but we aint gonna catch MV IMO
NEWCASTLE/QLD/ADLEIDE- QLD + adelaide will take 4th and 5th (Adelaide will be hampered depdning upon how far they go in ACL)
Jets- lol, they will scrape in for 6th- hope I am wrongand they take 8th!
WELLINGTON
PERTH
Feel sorry for these 2- Perth was always gonna be bad but Wellington showed promise...

Theo was sent for "stomping" on thompson but he went down faster then Aloi$i did on this year's GF day.

Sasho fell over in that incident but it could have gone either way.

Matt's goal celebration when he took out the net pole was funny but he could have lost his head.
Well I was there at MCG and the pitch invasion the match was delayed and the game finished 2-2 after Australia was 2-0 up and the Goalie for Australia was Mark Bosnich and the rest is History but I did notice after the game last night that Mark went over to the Grounds men across the field and talk to them does anyone know what he said to them. That was the reason the game was extended to 5 minutes and the game finished 2-2 this was not a fluke?

5mins there was alot of delay during the niggling/hacking portion of game
He was questioning the offside like everyone who did not witness the replays

There was no reffing conspiricy in that game.

Did they confirm what theo got the red for???

Gutted at the final whistle but realised I should be happy with 1 point and a nice competitive performance from our boys against the benchmark team. Still hurts a lot that we didn't get the three points. Extremely frustrating too. Somehow, I knew it was going to happen as the 4 minutes sign was held up.

Why does Wilko look at the ground when he sprints to catch up with the attack? He needs to keep his eye on the ball and the other players. Combined with his lack of pace, its a real concern.

IMO we were a better team than Melbourne last night and we deserved a win - but you get that sometimes. The final Melbourne goal was just rediculous; we had enough defense there but clearly they lost the plot. Also, we had enough good chances to have another one or two goals on the board, but its nobody elses fault but our own that we didn't get them. It was sad to watch Hutch hold the ball whilst he was one on one with the goalie, rather than take a shot after the first touch - there were others that lacked the necessary quality and others that were well saved. Lets hope the boys learn from it and sort it out within the next few games.

Bex - Hutch's first touch should have been a shot - no reason to have a touch as the ball was along the carpet - great pass actually

Yes, good point and it just reinforces my critcism of that effort. But he wasn't the only one who should have done better in front of goal.

Wilko is an absolute liability. Absolutely disgraceful going down and staying down just before the second goal. He may not have got there but he could have tried instead of rolling on the ground pretending he was hurt. Clark in - Wilko OUT

OK, now that the heat has gone out of the post match reviews I want to voice something that has been bugging me for a couple of years.... BALL BOYS & BALL GIRLS.

[rant]

For farksake!!!! Can we get some kids that know what they're doing please? The ball replacement is slow and a couple of times I saw Bozza have a few words to the kids during the game, no doubt trying to teach them how to get the ball to him faster. He has bigger fish to fry than coaching the Gosford U13 girls during the game.

I'm all for encouraging the kiddies but this is serious. Train these kids properly. We need an effecient supply of ball to our guys (and a professionally slow service for the visitors... lol).

Apologies to anyone connected to the kids on Saturday, I'm sure they did their best. The blame lies with those who organise them. Farkin' get it sorted! :redcard:
