Only just - thanks to Wilko - Wilko was slow to get out and to be honest should have left the ball for Bozza

Bozza gave him and absolute serve afterwards

Hutch was better today but still way off the pace. If we had any midfielders he would be dropped.

As for Bozza, put it this way, I don't miss Danny at all. That's not to say I don't want Danny back because I do. It's incredible to think he can come back at 36, been out of the game for five years or whatever it is, have his health issues and perform the way he is. It is just amazing. It must have been an absolute joy being a Villa fan and seeing him week in, week out at his peek.

Yep - Bozza was huge (no pun) again tonight - kept us in it - not afraid to give the defenders curry when they need it, was good with his feet etc etc - what can you say about the guy...

Ok - everyone is entitled to their opinion but do you think that Caceres, Hutcho or Wilko would get into either Sydney or Melbs side?? No, neither do I.

Caceres displays the same faults that got him benched and punted from Melb. Incredibly talented ball player but is rarely in the game.

ps - I actually tipped a draw but dont take any pleasure in getting it. We couldnt kill a game against 10 men. no excuse for that

Short answer is that Caceres is probably the only one that they would take - why - because he can turn a game. He was better tonight but I wonder how we can get him more in the game. Tommy P was the same tonight even prior to the send off.

Us and 10 men - Have we ever won a game against 10 men?

Understand that but you asked a hypothetical question and I stated that out of the 3 probably only Caceres - not definately

We struggled against a 10 man Victory side at BT last season. We prevailed 2-1 but TBH didn't deserve that win (God bless Tommy P for that one). We performed a hell of a lot better this time. From what I saw, Melbourne had nothing up front and we took the ball off them at will. This is what I'd expect playing against 10 men.

Then the goal 4 seconds from time... arrrgh. No joy in getting one point, even though we all know it's better than no points.

Hi Greenpole, I'm glad this has moved forward from anybody with another opinion knows f**k all.
Probably not but the point was whether they were so abysmal tonight - also I suppose it depends on who on Syd or Melbs present roster aren't there.

Actually, Tommy had one of his MIA games when he came on, too.

ps - I (shamefully) tipped a Melb win

We've never done well against 10 men. Probably lucky we got the second goal.

Melbourne first goal the pass to the right mid was offside by at least a metre ........ but we had time to recover and our central backs are way to slow they kept playing long balls because of our lack of pace at the back.

Bozza kept us in the game ...... where was the midfield in extra time Hutch went missing.......... Matty S has come of age I think the best striker in the league........ and tonight Porter earn a place in the starting side. If Grumpy or Owens get fit Hutch may struggle to hold his place ........  Jedi by his standards did not have his best game tonight (not saying he played poor but by his standards a quite game. Sash well he gives it all but I somehow wonder what a Matty & Nik would be like.

In past seasons our backs have been a rock ....... this year they concern me or more to the point their lack of pace. Of more concern is how we have lost two games in the last 30 secs.

Just a question with 5 mins to go why sub, we were going fine, ..... yes slow the game down but maybe it put our shape out as a young left full back went into a left mid position.

Sad thing I can see us having trouble holding on to Matty & Jedi next year Europe calls for them and we will be f without them.

Matty...I love the guy but I dunno
Give him another season here 1st
But he is defiantely a confidence player. He was carving and turning with agility and posie today!
WOW!
Jedinak- I would be shocked if he was here in V5!
Will be interesting to see how McKinna replaces him!

To give up 2 points tonight late in the game was inexcusable imo. I hope Lawrie blasted them after, to challenge for the title (which we should be doing) we cannot afford to give away points like that.

Caceres has the potential to be a game breaker and a class act for us. His unfamiliarity with our style was very evident tonight. Its great we have a player who will take a player on but he just lacks that next step. Dare I say it, kwassie was better at beating players than him. Hope Lawrie can get him firing.

Hutch was ordinary and as others are saying, if the squad had fit midfielders he would be benched. What the word on Jonathan Bru?? Could be an ideal replacement?

is an average of more than a goal a game (remember he came off the bench against newie) not enough for you, kareem?

:soapbox:

I want, nay _demand_........... MORE LONG BALLS!!!!

The 76 we bombed in tonight were clearly not enough, so we need 176 next week.  Just to make sure.    :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

If this is going to be our tactic for 95% of the time, then we need a front three of Sasho, Dylan Mac, and Matty Simon, with Caceres floating around behind them.  Otherwise it's a waste of time - Matty is good enough to bring them down nearly every time, but Sasho is too lazy/slow to play in any sort of effective supporting role.  More options = less chance of it going wrong 9 times out of 10.

Bench Wilkinson, and take the captaincy of him.  Disgraceful, utterly shameful performance from him tonight.  If he wasn't too busy f*cking FAKING a "knee injury", that second goal would never have happened.  Watch on the replay how he goes down pretending to be hurt, then notices he's not going to get a free kick, and hops straight back up trying to get in position.  GET RID OF THIS SHITHOUSE CULTURE OF TRYING TO WIN FREE KICKS BY SIMULATION OUT OF OUR TEAM!!!!  IT IS UTTERLY DISGUSTING AND UNFORGIVABLE!!!!    (not to say Wilko didn't have a piss poor game all round, but whatever)

Bench Hutchinson whilst we're at it.  He brings nothing to our midfield except the ability to draw a free kick, and even then, referees are starting to take notice of his cheating.  Utterly reprehensible.

Oh, and the tactics.......... such lovely tactics.  THERE ARE TWO F*CKING SIDES OF THE FIELD YOU KNOW?!?!?!?!?

So, in summary - MORE LONG BALLS!!!!  It's V2 all over again.  Buh-bye finals.

P.S.  Greenpole - re: Caceres, I think the problem is that he's so clearly superior to the rest of the team that he _appears_ to be out of place, when in reality, it's the rest of the team that is so far behind him in terms of first touch, positional play, vision, and just about everything else.  He's thinking three steps ahead of everyone else, and he has the balls to try something - _anything_!!!  Clever little flicks, crackers from 30 yards where the ball starts above his head..... the list could go on and on.  Whereas his midfield partner, one 'Hutcho Hutcho man' spends his time falling over and checking his prettyboy face in the mirror.

P.P.S.  I hate referees.  EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM IS SHIT!!!!  :vomit:

End :soapbox:

its all part of the plan serious... dont worry.

mum reckons their 2nd goal was way offside and the crowd went nuts about it... is this true? coz i see no mention of it on here, and my bro said it was because they scored after the 4 minutes stoppage time, despite the fact that the time given to the crowd is a minimum and a guide...

sorry guys, i was at coaster supporting my best mates band (with all the tough guys with tatts and pills i must add)

i cant tell if i missed anything or not??

There was a fellow a good 6 metres offside, but it wasn't he that recieved the initial long ball, it was his mate (who was onside when the ball was hit).  Now, this is a classic case of passive offside, but we were pinged for the exact same thing earlier in the game....... consistency much??

So you agree with our tactics again serious   from listening not watching it sound like
Bozza was immense b4 the red
boogs struggled but made big plays
porter (BULLZ ;)) was playing attacking sweeper
jedi rushed some free kicks and still sn't distributing real well
caceras worked his ass off
osman reminded us why we want him fit
wilko didnt really hear his name
sasho doesnt appear to just be a poacher any more he actually works
simon guys gone from zero 2 hero
macca didnt here his name once he was on

QUESTION would you guys be so upset bout our playing style
and pessimistic bout our season hopes had:
sash not got in cacersas way
muscat not save 2 goals himself
hutch hit it 1st time
questionable penalty
massive save from new keeper
Just putting it out there it could ov been a 4 or 5-2 game
we would of still been usin same style but with a bit of luck
could of spanked the leagues "best" team

I think we are the goods to make the finals all we need is......

Some composer after we score come on boys fire up and defend
don't get countered instantly

RUTHLESS AGRESSION come on i think if we get some killer instinct
there will be some fun scorelines

The defense needs to get speed

to stop going home after the 90minute whistle they always forget injury time.

Hahaha, mate, I'd be this annoyed about our tactics regardless of the results....... I seriously think we can play far far far far _faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar_ better than we are now, and than we did in the second half of last season.  My fear right now is that this will be V2 all over again, which is what we're quickly sliding towards.  An even bigger fear than that is that we will have a positively rubbish ACL campaign, thus consigning the amazing achievement of last season to history with no awesome postscript.

Don't worry chief, they'll fire up once you get back.  :p
