age is not relevant but the fact that he has not played a competitive match for seven years is

i was only a few years out the game as keeper and i could not believe how much i had lost in terms of reading the game and positioning when i replaced a keeper who got sent off

i'm not saying it is a bad idea but i am saying it is a massive risk (as is playing trotty for those seven games) and lawrie is very risk adverse, so i just don't see this move happening

it could end being a massive disaster for us on the park romario style

You,re right about Lawrie not taking risks which is why I don,t think he,ll play Trott for these 7 games. If he signs up Bozza I,d be confident he,s capable because we know what Lawries like.....if that makes sense?

Both of you are correct which makes me think Lawrie will look for someone else who has had some recent game time

Bozza played a Reserves game for QPR last season and Ed De Hoy the QPR keeper coach and former Chelsea Keeper stated how imposing and good Bozza was.

Lets face it, I think Lawrie knows what he is doing either way. The one thing I agree with is that Trotty will not keep the first 7 games.....

. so guest stints are still an option in v4? what are the circumstances surrounding that (cap, squad numbers, timeframe, etc)?

. confidence is such a huge thing for keepers and i don't think bosnich would have any problems in that area

. the trotty issue is intriguing - his trial games don't seem to have been very demanding which is not an ideal preparation. it also seems like he plays as a number two ie. with a certain inevitablility that he will be replaced. for a couple of games its a good option, for a third of the season, unfortunately, he may even be doubting himself

. another scenario is bozza signs a guest stint, danny leaves after the olympics and trotty learns some arrogance from bosnich and this carries him to another level ... come v5 and trotty is first choice, no questions asked (and we have made some money on transfers)

I think the max for a guest stint is 7 games which is why it,s the ideal time frame for us.

As long as he has had some sort of trial with the club before signing, it's a good buy.

If he becomes one of ours, he is a heroic example of sorting out your life.

If he doesnt, he's just a junkie.

Lets wait and see which direction we need to take

EXCLUSIVE: Central Coast Mariners today dismissed reports ex-Socceroo Mark Bosnich was set to sign for the club...but admitted they'd love to talk to him.
Mariners chairman Lyall Gorman told au.fourfourtwo.com the club had not spoken to the controversial goalkeeper or his management about any position with the club.

"We have had no discussions in any shape or form," said Gorman this afternoon. "There's nothing to it. That doesn't mean we wouldn't be interested in him though...

"We are always interested in quality footballers - but I can assure you there has been no contact whatsoever.

"There will be no surprise announcement next week about this, I promise."

Gorman confessed he would love to see Bosnich join the Gosford outfit - and was convinced the former Chelsea and Manchester United bad boy had changed his ways.

Bosnich's career ended in tatters after he descended into a spiral of drink and drugs that finished him in the English Premier League.

But Gorman believes Bosnich is worth giving a second chance.

"I am sure it's all in the past for him," said Gorman. "I really believe that people make mistakes and you learn from it.

"Look at Danny Vukovic - he got sent off in the grand final and I'm quite sure he's learnt from that and won't do it again.

"You have to allow players to make mistakes and learn from the experience...and then move forward.

"Mark has had lots of issues in the past but I'm sure he's much wiser now for all of that."

The Mariners chairman doubts the A-League will be the place for Bosnich to make his footballing comeback with the former Australia number one setting his sights higher.

But he reckons Bozza would be a great addition to the local game.

He added: "He was a truly great goalkeeper but we haven't seen him touch a ball in God knows how long.

"But he was a big personality and a great character as well as a superb footballer and we always need those in any league."

Gorman admitted though: "I'd be very surprised if the A-League was his currently intended destination.

"But if someone comes to us and wants to talk about him joining us, we'd be very willing to listen."

That worries me - Turnbull seems to have too much of a say these days.
