Caceres came through the group that had Ryan, Duke & Bernie together with Sainsbury.

He and Andershite haven't made it and he may believe he "deserves" a shot.

NPL or some shit Asian league beckons.

“To win (against Wellington) we need a bigger engine (in midfield), one with a bigger work ethic. We need more dynamics in there and that’s what we will do.

Well if that's his conclusion, why the hell remove one of the hardest workers in Sim ???. And remove him from the training group to boot.

Caceres & Fitzy being 'dropped' I can accept, they've both had ample opportunities, starting 11 berths, to cement their place and respect. They've both put in hot & cold performances. Fitzy the better through his better work ethic.

Sim on the otherhand, has had to watch Mickey Neil start the first 4rnds- playing absolute shit & keep getting rewarded in a position that Sim knows he can play just as well, if not better.

Sim's has only had 2 starts in the starting 11 (iirc) and stints off the bench with the adage of scored goals and help create them too.

I went to the Sydney Boxing Day game & have watched the replay twice. TW played him at LM and constantly switched him with Fitz to RM, back & forth throughout the game. (Don't know if the switching helped us).

But what I did notice is that 'wherever' Sim finds himself on the pitch he adapts to his location and takes on the responsibility of whoever is supposed to be there.

ie. He'd cover st LB for Rosey when Rosey got dragged out of shape or had made a run or Rosey had to cover the CB's.

Sim would also 'tuck in' and help Monty in DMidfield work. Cant count how many times he went looking to recieve the ball fom the CB's trying to get us to play out from the back.

All this 'work' despite us being down to 10 men!

So Tony's comments and more importantly his actions in 'bin-ing' him have me perplexed.

After all this I think Sim would make a fist of it next to Monty as a leftsided DM if we play the 4-2-1-3.

-------------------- GK ---------------------
Roux - McGing - Ascroft - Rosey
--------- Monty -------- Sim ------------
--------------------- ??? --------------------
Fabio ---------- R'OD --------- Austin

Edit: All left-footed players down the LHS. Well balanced starting 11.

I'm an unabashed fan of his work this year. Not pretty, but pretty effective and tries harder than most!

Mariners to welcome back wingers Ferreira and Austin:

Mariners coach Tony Walmsley has backed both of his star wingers to return to the A-League at Central Coast Stadium on Thursday night.

Star Central Coast wingers Fabio Ferreira and Mitch Austin will almost certainly start against Wellington on New Year's Eve, as the Mariners attempt to turn around their miserable run of A-League losses.

Portuguese X-factor Ferreira has been making a gradual return from the bench the past two matches, following a lengthy injury lay-off.

Austin, who has earned his own plaudits for his flying runs down the left flank, sat out last Saturday's 4-1 thumping by Sydney FC with a virus.

But coach Tony Walmsley backed both to return at Central Coast Stadium on Thursday night.

"There's no doubt we're at our best with Fab Ferreira and Mitch Austin on the wings," Walmsley said.

"Both are fit and available, and I can confidently say both will probably start the game.

"Fab's not going to last 90 minutes, but we'll make sure we've got people on the bench that can come in and do a job."

Young back-up goalkeeper Tom Heward-Belle will make his A-League starting debut in place of suspended Paul Izzo, who was given his marching orders in the first half against Sydney.

Skipper Nick Montgomery backed Heward-Belle's form, but said the self-assured 18-year-old didn't need encouragement.

"There's no pressure on Tommy and he's not nervous, he's a confident guy and I think everyone will enjoy watching him tomorrow night," Montgomery said.

"The boys will rally around him, but to be honest he's pretty cool.

"He's a pretty laid-back character, but you can see in his eyes he's focused and desperate to take his opportunity."

With a club-record six consecutive losses, 11 winless games and only five points from the opening 12 rounds, Central Coast will need a miracle to challenge for the finals.

First and foremost, Walmsley is after a result.

He's under no pressure from management with his mandate to entertain and not worry about winning, but even he flagged the need to boost squad morale as they enter a new year.

"As a manager, the only place to go is inward first. Look in the mirror, what are you doing, what can you do differently, what can you do better?" Walmsley said.

"My ambition every week when I put a team out on the field is that they deliver to their potential, the potential I believe that they have.

"We haven't done that particularly well the last few weeks ... it affects psyche, your mentality, your level of confidence.

"We need to be better in all areas."

STATS THAT MATTER

* Wellington are undefeated in their past six matches against Central Coast (three wins, three draws).

* The Phoenix are without victory in their past six away games, their longest streak since March 2013.

* The Mariners have allowed their opponents
- the most shots on target this season 70
- & conceded the most goals 28.

Well that's interesting. And based on performances it makes sense also. Nice to see Walmsley calling out the obvious lack of work ethic/movement in central midfield and seeking to remedy it. It has been killing us.

Interesting balance, it's a fighting XI against a side who always fight and are physically strong. With Fab and Austin, there's more creativity than in recent weeks, with the central mids, we should be a lot more solid, relatively defensively sound, and win a lot more second ball, which should allow the FB's to consistently get forward and provide more opportunities to counter.

No surprise that Caceres got left out if he's been talking about moving to Arnie. Agents should look out for their player, but his agent is a massive tosser. We don't owe it to start anybody. This club has given him ALL his opportunities, and to date the simple truth is that he has not taken them. He can go to SFC and warm the pine. Would not be starting in any other HAL side based on his form this season. At 23 "talent" has to start effecting games.

Until the last 2 years, we'd been blessed in the middle of the park. Such a great list of players who have done terrific work. So I'm happy to hopefully see an end to this era of lazy ineffective football through the middle.

Also thoroughly agree with others, coach must make changes and do what he can with the cattle currently at hand. Only Sim can hold his hand up as being hard done by. And maybe did so. The others should focus on improving like TW said.

And yes, if this is all about players unhappy at being dropped, then the media is just causing shit for us again, and this is not indicative of poor management.

If it's about super. Ok, but that's sorted. If it's about how the Mariners are doing in the comp. Well, the players should be unhappy about their results. They haven't been good enough and apart from Monty, Fab (and Sim tbf) they should all feel that they need to do better. Especially Cac and Fitzy.

Somebody needs to check Kris Griffith's multibet, because so far that's the only explanation I have for the refereeing. Absolutely disgraceful already - they foul us and they get the free kick. f*** me.

Ok, can somebody please explain:

WHY THE ACTUAL FLAP DO WE HAVE NOBODY ON THE BACK POST AT A CORNER KICK???

It's absolute stupidity at the best of times - but when we have an untried young keeper? It's like we're trying to lose!!!
I couldn't even count how many games we've actually lost under McKinna when he didn't believe in putting a player on the back post.

:soapbox::soapbox::headbutt::headbutt:

Also, KGC repeatedly letting Wellington sneak 10-15 yards on throw-ins. The crowd are absolutely livid at him already.

This is hilariously bad refereeing. Not only were CCM offside there, but the foul should have gone the other way. Shouldn't have been a penalty.
