R12 Sydney FC v Mariners

BrisRecky

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
1 min in we leave a Sydney player unmarked and he heads against the crossbar.
3 min. Fitz gives ball away cheaply.
11 min. Rose loses the ball. 5 players stand off or fail to pick up. 2 beats 5.
Izzo does very poorly 1.0.

14 min. Roux caught 20 yards away from his player.
15 min. Liam Rose leaves a Sydney player unmarked on the edge of the box. Thankfully Sydney butcher the opportunity.
19 min. Caceras looses the ball under no pressure.
20 min. J.Rose receives no call from his keeper and heads the ball out needlessly for a corner.
22min. McGing puts himself in trouble needlessly and gives away a penalty. Poor decision by Stooge Williams.
Izzo gets sent off when he completely misjudged a through ball. Dubious penalty and second yellow.
38 min. Sim great cross and good header by Ascroft.
41 superb ball out by our new 12yo keeper. They boy looks a better prospect than Izzo.
56. Roux finally gets goal side and prevents a goal. Not rocket science is it Storm??
58. Min. J.Rose passes to no one.
71. Monty sets an example for the whole team. This bloke is a legend.
74. hoole is left unmarked in six yard box and misses an open goal
82. Caceras loses the ball under no pressure.
And that sports fans is the new improved Entertainment, we have been gifted...WOOHOO

Nothing to do with that, IMO. We'd be making the same errors no matter what our playing style is, IMO. It's not that we don't have the players for Walmsely's vision - we don't have the players to fulfill any coach's vision.

I'm not buying that. The rough strategy is there, I can see that. It's the AA8 level errors (well, and the fact that we have an attacking strategy with no decent attackers)

Good times. Seems Howard--Belle was the upside. I missed the game and, very sadly, I have to say I'm not unhappy to have missed it from what I'm reading...

Ah, if it means we'll have a club in ten years it's worth it. Hard to stomach as it happens though.

He made a few decent saves, and some good distribution. hard to get a measure from one game - but heck, I look forward to seeing what he's got next week.

As for the big picture, I feel Bozza kind of struck an interesting chord in the post-match analysis - he mentioned that this entire scenario ("entertainment over results") has been enabled by the way the league is set up (no promotion/relegation). It absolutely sucks for us as fans, no doubt about it - but it's kind of proving a point about how the competition is structured at the moment.
I like Bozza but Bozza was shooting his mouth off. They are throwing punches because they can and backlash is to small. They have been waiting for our club to fail and now they are coming at us from all angles.
Where was this when WSW sucked last year. What if we did have relegation and lost WSW last year? There would have been an uproar and the league stuffed.
We are playing to the rules, we aren't going out to loose so back off media.
As I type Bozza and Wanker Zelic are having another go. Piss off

TW is not the enemy. He has been sent out to fight with one hand behind his back.
Agree, we were promising early with the full squad.
But starting to make silly mistakes as loosing takes their confidence.

Take McGing has been excellent but is he starting to get tired with the step up and making mistakes. Not only is he jumping up in standard he has had to learn a new position and one of major importance to our team. I really like him but we simply can't survive with him as our main CB. Needs an experienced guy to take the pressure off.
Better squad we see a better coach.

And in the first half hour I thought Izzo has two hands on the ball before Grant kicked it out for Brosque to eventually score for the first and it's an obvious no penalty for the second.
I originally thought that as well but after reviewing he came at the ball with open palms. Just an unlucky rebound and a nice through ball. Unlucky but we started bad and had a lot of trouble keeping our feet on the wet grass

I do get annoyed with players who should show more - Caceres needs to take this opportunity, because he wouldn't be starting at any other club. Ditto for Fitzy.
Agree but it's funny if you ask fans from other clubs if they could have only one of our players they'd all pick Caceras. There is a lot of love from people who don't watch him each week and see how little he does for us.
A really believe he is a DM and should play in Liam Rose spot.
I am not sure if there are no good runs for him but he has no clue when in space. He has some nice runs and was in some good spots but then does nothing with it.

We've only seen one camera angle of the Izzo penalty as well. Would be interesting to see it from the side rather than behind as I have my suspicions about this one too.
Just showed super slow mo with zoom and definitely a penalty on shootout. Hits the ankle with his shoulder.

Most of his runs happen when turning away from a defender. He rarely skins them. Creates very little. Looks good, does nothing.
Obviously out of position. DM by trade.
If someone makes an offer, take it.

1. I had a bit of a chuckle at the 'alternative coin toss'. Nothing wrong with a bit of silly fun.

2. We're not getting the ball into the Penalty Area enough - SFC massively outdid us there. We're not fulfilling our goal as an attacking team, and it's amateur hour at the back. with the team we have we deserve the wooden spoon.[/QUOTE]
1. Classic photo on 442 of Monty's face just going what the F is this and the ref and brosque laughing.

2. We have gone downhill recently. Have the other teams worked us out or is it Austin And Fab missing from the lineup lately?

This is what we need:

  • 1x Experienced defender
  • Better attacking midfielder, get rid of Caceres and give Trifiro a chance
  • Striker that can take their chances and score in this league, not the NPL (Get rid of Donovan/Heffernan]
One Experienced Keeper to go with that

I can accept that he didn't see it.....but that's amateur stuff; you simply don't take your eyes off the players when there's a crowd running away from the goal like that. This is the exact reason why.
But we also have 4 officials. The near AR 100% should have been watching and alerted the referee. for something this serious, even the far AR or the 4th official should have - and all 3 of the other officials should be constantly scanning the players. Several of the officials should have seen it - no excuse - and with wireless communications it should make it very easy to bring this to the referee's attention. I have absolutely no idea what the wireless comms actually get used for, given the number of grievous errors that are still occurring. As a former referee's assessor I'd be holding all 4 officials accountable for that. But I think referee assessors in the HAL are a joke, judging by the sort of stuff referees seem to get away with (and judging by the crap I've heard some of them say).
Ashcroft should have hit the floor and grabbed his head and rolled around on the ground. They would have wondered what he was on about. Four official would have found a TV to have a sneak peak then a little whisper and bingo justice.
I'm sorry it has to be that way and I hate that about football but sometimes it's the only way. Ignoring it and running away will never get you the penalty.

Apart from Monty we have no grunt. Even if he doesn't dive turn around and get into Simon.

"With Simon facing a two-match suspension for an off the ball incident...Simon meanwhile is likely to receive a show-cause notice over his clash with Harry Ascroft near to halftime, when the striker hit Ascroft in the back of the head off the ball. Simon told teammates afterwards that he and Ascroft had been jostling in the penalty area just before during which the Mariners defender had claimed for a penalty. In response, as they ran back upfield, Simon claimed to teammates that he intended to nudge Ascroft but inadvertently struck his head. Nonetheless that explanation is likely to get short thrift from the MRP given damning footage of the incident, assuming that referee Ben Williams confirms he and his fellow officials missed it.The most likely charge is “Assault on a Player (e.g. violent conduct when not challenging for the ball)” which under A-League regulations carries a minimum two-game ban."www.perthnow.com.au/sport/football/a-league/teams/sydney/sydney-fc-facing-striker-crisis-with-alex-brosque-injured-and-matt-simon-facing-suspension/news-story/6703f1eb0d050bfaec913c5212a6c769

TW Actually commented on this in the post-match interview yesterday.
That was part of where the conversation went on about missing some experienced heads etc... He referred to how good we were looking in the first 5/6 games vs. now and how he feels that it's a combo of the players getting worn down by the results and the lack of experienced, cooler, heads to help guide the young 'uns.
I got a bit confused by it because he was also sort of denying that the losses were taking a toll, so didn't quite gel, but I'm taking it to be him towing the club line while also trying to answer the questions honestly.

Again - I'm hoping that he's working behind the scenes to get a bit of room to move in January, but I daren't really believe that he'll have much luck.
