ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Player movements 2013/2014

The simple fact is that Danny is a good HAL level keeper. He had a quite reasonable year last season. Would he be an automatic first choice - no. Would I prefer him to Bradesevic - yes. Would I prefer him to Velaphi - yes. Would I prefer him to Reddy - definitely.

. perspective

Arnie has put together a squad that has decent covers for all outfield positions. If Justin gets injured or loses form we need someone that is able to come in and perform at a top level. We should not skimp on what is arguably the most important position. Whether the answer is Danny or someone else I don't know. However, he seems to be the best of the people so far mentioned.

. one other thing we need to be mindful of is the cap. if flores has been squeezed under the cap as reported - there can't be too much left. remembering that maty (our number one) wouldn't have been on much

. if danny is being 'allowed to talk to other clubs' i assume he is still under contract. if he is going to be number two 'elsewhere' he is hardly like to take a pay cut to move (all assumptions of course) ... but if you consider roy's post above he may be rather keen to re-unite with JC

Danny's reflex saves are still close to being the best in the league. A mariners keeper is much more than a shot stopper though & Danny does not have the attributes required to fill that role. He loses his head & rushes decisions almost every other game. He would be a liability to the way we play & I don't think he is the way forward.

Pasfield & Bradsevic for mine. Or a completely different keeper, O/S maybe.

I'd have to agree with the Pasfield & Bradsevic, it's not as if Crawley has a bad track record in his young keepers stepping up to the mark when needed, even Redmayne and Trott even though not in the class of Matty or Danny were good second choice options. Bradsevic has been schooled on the Arnie system so would be a better fit than Danny as the way we use the keeper in the "sweeper" distribution is a crucial part of the system and Danny is very suspect there.

Would welcome back Danny if it happens though think he will be asking too much, not sure we could fit him in. Is a tough one, if Bradsevic is not quite ready then we need decent cover and someone who can challenge for a starting place. Competition for places is important.

Why is he being allowed to talk to other clubs by Glory while still under contract? He is a competent A-League keeper.

Is he a problem in the dressing room?

I was thinking it a bit odd too....good keeper, should command a starting place at the Glory. Why are they happy to let him go? Seemed a decent team player at the Mariners.

Probably just wants to be closer to family...

And for the first time in years we don't have a number one

Heck Garcia is being tempted back to Perth (where he is from)

And does a club want an unhappy player on the books?

But you would have to think they have a replacement lined up...

. perhaps he doesn't fit in with the way they want to play ... you know ... playing out from the back - so he may have been offered the opportunity to move on

Let's look at it this way... Danny >>>>> Reddy.

As a matter of fact - my left nut >>>>>>> daylight >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Reddy.

IMO Bradasevic not bad but not ready for the A-League yet, from what I've seen at CCMA.

To be fair, Maty Ryan didnt look the goods early on (shudders as he remembers the preseason game v Sydney at the showground).

Having said that, I dont think Bradasevic is ready yet.

Lump of festering dogshit >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Reddy

Isnt the idea that perth are going to bring back Tando?

Would love danny back. His shot stopping is incredible, and last season rare random shots were most of what went past Ryan. Danny also has great ditribution like Ryan (eg taught by Crawley I presume).

I cant see a single negative if he returns.

Definately 1000x better keeper than Reddy, and likely significantly better than anyone else on offer, and IMO better than Justin

??????????
No goalkeeper in the A-League has distribution skills like Maty Ryan had.
Crawley must have cringed every time Danny was clearing the defensive area. Robbie Deans would have been more impressed with Dannys clearances and his ability to consistently find touch around the half way line

Give Pasfield his chance He hasnt let us down when given the opportunity as understudy to Ryan Danny wouldnt have been on the radar when Ryan left so we will just have to wait and see what and who Arnie brings in as understudy
