Reckon your close but think storm will be first choice over Morton plus a few lefties and righties switched...

umm pasfield is our keeper I have faith in the guy doing the job. he's stood inline and gave us top class back up.
we should reward that loyalty.
danny is a first team or nothing guy ,he's almost family .if he's happy to play for match payments and wait inline then that's what we should offer.

. not convinced about danny ... and agree with TB's comment above re. pasfield

. the main problem with danny is his distribution is shithouse. we would be going from a guy who was the best sweeper in the league and probably our best passer of the ball in maty ... to a guy who can't even land a goal kick on the pitch better than three out of four attempts

. the way we play would have to change dramatically because of it

I am intrigued that so many people think that Hutchinson won't be in the starting line-up. He hardly missed a game last year, barely put a foot wrong, hoisted the toilet seat as captain and was a leading advocate for the players when they weren't being paid. Much as Arnie likes to play young players he is also loyal to his veterans. If Caceres starts it will have to be on merit and he certainly wasn't good enough last year.

Can we please not use Sainsbury as a RB?

He has never excelled there

Not to mention his development...it's in his best interests (as well as Australia's) if he plays as a CB

Yeah no worries I'll just let Arnie know ;)

Seriously though, I agree that Trent has played his best at CB (just rewatch the Grand Final. Screw del Piero cam, I want Sainsbury cam), but if he is the best option we have at right back then why not? Will depend on how Morton and Roux go in preseason I guess...

It is quite possible, after three years work with John Crawley, the new developed Pasfield is a better keeper than Danny who seems to be past his best.

. alrighty i am going to throw a couple of things out there ... and i am sure it will go down a treat :p

. game one at home start with rosey, sains and ando in the middle ... then the new mr dutchman on the other flank - because this will be a big game. also need to consider sains moving mid-season (or before)

. now for the wacky one ... back three ... siep, ando and sains - arnie's next challenge for the boys. then just as clubs start to think they may have a solution we can switch the personnel and move to a more traditional four at the back

Look, if we're playing with formations, why don't we focus on our strength in attack:

---------Trent Seip---------
--Monty Caceres Hutcho--
-----------Flores-----------
Simon Duke McBreen Fitz

especially as I expect the attacking midfield 3 to be the most offensive combination in the league.
the hard arses of monty and hutch will be required to mop up loose ball .

I`m with TB, Bikini & Roy.
Danny blew his chance with his referee tantrum.
Not withstanding that that incident had been coming for for half a season.
Danny was a good keeper up until then, but for mine, I`ll pass on him for Passfield who has shown great character & deserves his chance to be number 1 with us.

Past his best?
And Pasfield better?

Are you joking?

Sure he never reached his potential...but he is still in his (somewhat disappointing after all the hype) prime ...

This. Why on earth would you drop a Championship winning captain. Also people having Anderson as left centre half. He has never played there his entire time at the Mariners. Arnold swaps Sainsbury to left, with Anderson on the right.

TB's line up is what I think we will play IF we stick with 4231, (Though I switched Seip and Anderson, as Seip has been very clear that he's best on the left and Ando I'm less sure on) I agree TS is better as a CB. But I'm not 100% he will play there still, as he's also come along way since his first struggles at RB, and showed some definite improvements in the position when he stepped in there last season.

But back to the squad. As soon as we signed Flores, I started playing around, and there are just so many great possibilities for formations I just confused myself.
Just look at the genuine potential starting players that are not on the field in that lineup...Simon, McBreen, Sterj... and you get a serious sense of our depth. This more than anything bodes well for the ACL.

I agree on the Hutch comments. Clearly "the glue" last season. Another point is that the first year we had Hutch as captain, is also the year we went all the way. A team needs some grit to centre around. ANd while I love Wilko. Hutch was the leadership grit that under Wilko we never had. Anyhow, Hutch and Monty combo is the reason I think we will most likely play a 4231 again... otherwise the 442 below would be my preference...

442

------------------Pasfield-----------
Sainsbury---Anderson--Marcel Seip---Rose
--------------Monty/Hutch-----------
Weemac---------------------------Fitzy
-------Flores-----------
Simon------Duke----

Some other possibilities...

I really wish the HAL would increase it's number allowed on the bench too.
Gives the coach more power to change a game/respond to what's needed. Unties his hand to be able to experiment more.
Makes it more exciting for fans! If they can't get a run, I want to see Caceres and Slater on the bench...
