If it was the rumoured $820k, then we got ripped. he is easily worth more than that.

Dichotomy to the max on this one. Happy that he's been rewarded for his outstanding form, work ethic by being scouted and finally signed to an overseas club.

However the Mariners invested in him with a longer contract with views to the Mariners future, that being the ACL and beyond. I think he still had at least one year left on a 2 year deal. The club could have done a deal with this Turkey club giving them the right to sign him after the completion of the Mariners efforts in the ACL. Upgraded Miles salary during this campaign, by 100/200k which could be easily structured/recouped from the transfer fee.

This would have been a win/win situation for both Mile and the Mariners. After the ACL Mile could have been worth up anything between $2-4million to an overseas club, more transfer fee for the club and Mile gets the bargaining power for a much larger salary at the new club.

Now we have to take that $820k and find an equivalent if not better DM replacement. Now theres NOBODY in Australia who'd even come close, let alone another HAL teams DM chance of switching clubs so that means we have to go overseas and that means spending more money for 'hopefully' someone who can do what Mile did for us, ooh....and he was doing it for around $80-100k i'm guessing, add on the the other $100-200k that i mentioned to bump his salary to keep him for ACL and it's starting to look like we will need to spend in excess of $500k to find an equivalent for him imo, BECAUSE HE'S JUST THAT FCUKING GOOD!

Well I believe my earlier post is even more relevant now with the news last night on Foxsports FC that Nikita Rukavytsya (rumored to be announced today and believable with the announcement yesterday of Perth signing Eugene Dadi) has signed to Dutch club FC Twente with a transfer fee in excess of.........................

$1,000,000  FFS!

Again this highlights what a poor business decision it was to not negotiate a deal where we kept Mile until the end of the ACL, which would've benefited both the club and Mile financially and tactically.

If this Glory kid is worth a $1Million & change on transfer then Mile, as I said, is...WAS! easilllllllllly worth $2Million..........maybe even more if he played and did well in the ACL.

The great Kenny Rodgers sang it well.........we should have known when to "Hold Them, known NOT to Fold Them and fcuk'n let Mile run"

Poor decision from all concerned to let Mile go.  Someones eyes lit up with $$$ signs and it was a case of "sell sell sell".  An even worse decision from a footballing perspective.

Adding more tears to my cornflakes this morning, after contemplating this financial but more importantly strategic loss of Mile, I have to read in todays Express that Lawrie is STILL chasing down Carney.

FFS Lawrie, a DM to replace Mile and an experienced CB is ALL! we need! NOT this twat.

At the time my reaction to the Mile transfer was the same as Rowdy outlined above - convince him to stay for ACL then negotiate a bigger and better deal (potentially win-win).

However by all media reports, Mile was "desperate to accept the offer" and because CCM are such nice guys they "would never stand in the way of a player's ambitions".

Well......... this is the world of professional football, not love and candysticks.  We stood a far better chance of getting out of our ACL group with him than without him.  Here's hoping a suitable replacement is found in time.

Maybe he had a buyout/release clause in his CCM contract?

Also, the $1m being bandied about for Rustyawhatsit might be tiered and based on progress into 1st team etc etc

I do not agree with you Rod *ducks for cover*

Nikita is 3 years younger, young players almost always cost more

Different position, strikers always go for more

Personally I think your dreaming if you think Mile is worth 2 million

has the club actually given a figure for the mile transfer? how do we know what we got?

i'm not saying they've got any obligation to - it's a privately run club etc., i'm just saying that all i'm hearing is rumours about a figure of 800k. everything official has 'undisclosed'. anybody out there got a good source on this?

Masterfoods, of course!

Do you seriously expect a football club to come out and publicly & officially announce how much in transfer fees they got for any player?

that wasn't quite what i was saying, although in many other leagues it's commonplace for that info to come out. my point is why are we complaining about ruka's fee being higher when we're not really sure what mile's was.

+1, that was my thoughts too. A striker will always command top $$. Don't agree with it, but it seems to be the reality of it all, unfortunately.

The guys in the engine room, plugging away, running all over the centre midfield area & directing traffic, you could argue, would have more say in how a team performs, but that one tap that a striker may do in a whole game gets them the accolades.

TBH, Dibo, the reported $800K we supposedly got for Mile is excellent when you consider you are comparing apples to oranges (ie. Jedinak to Rukavystya).

I don't know why people are surprised that a dynamic striker who IS scoring goals and has plenty of seasons ahead of them, would get $1.0M in transfer fee for Perth.

To compare against what Mile brings to a team is wrong. He's in a different role, different type of public profile.

Nah. You need to detach your Man Utd fandom from your CCM fandom dude. We can't win every match, and we can't keep all the players we want.

Mile would have been furious if the club blocked this. It only takes an injury in the finals or ACL and Genc opt for a different DM and his chance is gone. Timing can be everything with these things. Who knows how that would have affected his performance and the team dynamic. And as has been said - the next three Miles aren't going to come here if we're a prick of a club that doesn't do the right thing by its players (see NUJFC and Con's reported picking and choosing of Jade North suitors based on transfer fee, rather than letting the player have some say).

As for the value of the fee, the actual 'quality' of the player is only one factor. You have age, length of contract remaining, and the current wage. Mile wasn't earning much here and only had what, 18 months on his contract? That knocks his value down.

If Man Utd swooped for Endo, the world, led by Sir Alex Ferguson, Endo, and S14, would be having a right laugh if Gamba wanted to block the transfer so he could stay around for the J-League finals a Champions League group stage.

And that is why the A-League will continue to be viewed as nothing more than a Turkish League/Dutch League/English Championship nursey.  We've got to make this a place where players from overseas who aren't 38 and shit want to come and play, and we've also got to make it a place where players go "oh, a chance to play ACL - I like", and our younger players go "you know what, it's worth sticking around here".

Selling at the first sign of $'s is not going to help the A-League achieve this.  Personally, I'm devo that Nikita is leaving..... he's a kickarse player, and watching him at Perth was very enjoyable.  He was also the key to them mounting an _actual_ charge at the finals next season.

Do y'understand what I'm getting at??  (yes, it's a selfish viewpoint, but f*ck it, this league has gotten a reputation as a retirement home, and I don't like it)

Dibo, you know the club isn't about to divulge revenue like this transfer fee if it isn't obliged to, publicly. I'd suspect that if anyone other than Lyall or Peter went public on the actual deal they got for Mile, the person making the announcement would be gone from the club the next day.

The media's guesstimate possibly came from a journo who did ask someone and when mentioned a $800K figure or quoted a European news report quoted Euro$ figure, got told, 'thereabouts'.

Just accept that we got *some* $$ for Mile's transfer & that quite probably, Rukavystya's transfer from Perth netting them more.

You'll sleep better at night not worrying about the pedantic details of all this mate if you just accept the fact that like all of us on this forum, save for the few with media accreditation or friends and relatives within the club, we are nevilles to them........
