I see what your saying Rod, and agree with the binding contract part, but you must surely see that forcing a player to honour a contract against his will will only lead to the club getting a bad name for itself and do more damage?

As prev stated, ManU do it! yeah there a much bigger club and the $$'s are bigger also but the reasoning is the same.

We didn't make Mile sign a contract against 'his will'

As for damage, like i said earlier, if/when we dont make this years Final...Premiership...Championship....RunnerUp in GF.....Dont qualif. 4 consec ACL........and God forbid get bundled out of the Group Stage of the forthcoming ACL

Then, then some might reconsider whose 'best interests' we should be more concerned about.

I believe this wont be the first or last situation of the club having to make the tough decision of keeping/letting go of one of our players in the next 12 months, and I believe the next player to be targeted will be Matty Simon. Top that with more interest from the Asian clubs and we will having to make a stand or deciding on letting players go to our opponents across the seas.

This is about Business. We're not a charity, and as my Granny always told me "Charity begins at home"  ;)

Has Cronaldo said "I want to leave please"? plenty of unconfirmed reports and other people saying he wants to go, but any actual word from him? thats a major difference in the cases

And no, he was not forced to sign his contract, but things change, thats life. Would you work to your full ability for your boss and company, if you were offered a better position with more pay, but your boss said they would not let you leave? I know I sure as hell would not be putting in the hard yards.

And yes, it seem we will have to agree to disagree for once  ;D

I love my job, I love the people I work for and with. I'm also happy with the $$.

However, if a competitor rings me tomorrow and offers a lot more money, guess what?

I'm gooooooooooooooooooooooooone

Why would it be different for a footballer?

Not only the $$$$ Andrew. If a new employer comes along with new opportunities to further your career, to develop your skills, to test yourself in a more competitive environment assisting your growth both professionally and personally, to offer you overseas travel and new cultural experiences, and to give you a new platform to further your career to possible exponential heights + the $$$$, then it would be a no brainer

it's actually a good thing for the club in the longer term

- first of all there's the money that can be spent on either filling financial holes or be reinvested in a marquee.

- secondly it shows that we're a club that brings players up to a level and develops them. we spotted mile in the state league and gave him a stage to perform on in the national league. it's worth noting the other two NSW clubs had the same opportunities to spot him but didn't take him.

he turned into a monster of a player and is now off overseas furthering his career. this process is about to repeat with matty simon. it's hapening as well with vukovic (though he was contracted to NSL teams and the process is slower - not helped by his brainsnap in february either). there may be other players who get a look over in coming years, and it makes it an attractive prospect to join us - we'll develop you, we won't stand in your way, but we'll make sure your contract is extended long enough to make sure we get a cut. no harm in that for player or club.

Agree - but on Danny - I can't see him going anywhere - things seemed to have stalled on that front... Not too long ago we all thought he would be the first to go - now he may not go at all...

he's what, 23? 24? he's still very young for a keeper, and so consequently there's far less hurry for him. unlike the other boys he should still be playing at least at a-league level til very near 40. i wouldn't worry too much about danny, and danny shouldn't worry too much either. if he plays to his ability for a year or two he's sure to get offers.

We have Hutch, Mile not required IMO
Dumbest post ever. We havent won a game since Jedinak left. His departure cost us any chance of the minor premiership and we have liitle chance of getting past Qld in the finals. His transfer has been a disaster for the club. You are deluding yourself if you think otherwise.

yeah, because even if we're shortsighted enough to judge things entirely by the first half a dozen games after they happen, refusing a player a transfer when he wants to go and having a resentful and sulky wantaway underperforming and losing value for the club would be just perfect for our finals chances.

Mile update:

Since he has come into the starting line-up, Genc has won both their games. Prior to that they had slid down to lower-mid table.

Djite also scored in their last game off the bench. It now looks as though the three Aussies (MJ, BJ and James Troisi) are pretty much in favour in the first team or at least off the bench.

Not a dumb post, maybe, just maybe Cruiser, there is a touch of sarcasm in the post!!

Disaster, that's a considerable over-statement. We are still in the finals, we can win, it's NOT Bear that is deluded. The money made will go to good use. Yes, I would rather he be here, but that's football.

That'd be BD wouldn't it? ;D

Indeed it would. Bah.

As a further update, I've been trawling Gencler's forums and translating anything mentioning the boys back into English online, which is a hit and miss process.

But from what I can gather, their fans have reacted positively to Jedi's performances. They see him as a good tackler who has freed up their midfield to attack in a 4-5-1 formation. They view his size as a good asset. They see him as great value for the A$800k or whatever they paid for him.

They are going absolutely nuts for the other Aussie boys lately, especially because Troisi scored a hattrick two games ago.

Genc's wiki page suggests they have a history of uncovering cheap players from different sources and selling them on for big bucks to clubs higher up the food chain. It will be interesting to follow Mile's progress - if he can remain influential and they keep winning it could be a stepping stone to bigger things for him.

Would love to see, in about 5 years, some sort of mini tournament, involving all the HAL players who have been sold over seas. Could be a very interesting showing of how the young guys with promise when they have leave, have become solid talented playes down the track

That's a great idea...After the HAL State of Origin they can play a Current All-star XI versus Legends All-Star XI
