So sydney women and "central coast" women are playing all their games as double headers with fixtures that clash with the first teams - brilliant

Yep. Except. Rd 5 vs. Sydney is "their" home game. Mariners have a home game the next week when Sydney are away

Hard to know who is WSFC when both are playing all home games at Parramatta and Campbelltown

This is total BS. not even full home and away season.
"We" play Sydney, Newcastle, Adelaide and Perth only once. And Perth is Rd 2.

Still want to know if the little 'Central Coast' will be above the 'Mariners' on their jersey-badges.

Yellowcake & Dru: Look at the photo, and look at the badge, it just says Mariners not Central Coast Mariners. I just hope none of our money is going into this given it has nothing to do with us!

Which photo omni? looking at the logo used on a-league site it still has writing above the mariners in the logo which I would assume is still central coast. it seems all logos are the same just with the wleague box around it.

Mariners Westfield W-League team unveiled

The Central Coast Mariners today confirmed the nineteen squad members that will spearhead the clubs inaugural Westfield W-League campaign, which will see the Mariners first represented in Australias new elite football competition for women at Melbournes Telstra Dome on Saturday, 25 October.

Head Coach Stephen Roche, who was appointed in early September, has assembled a competitive squad that will expand upon the Mariners brand beyond the boundaries of Central Coast by showcasing some of the countrys finest womens footballers over the course of Australias exciting new top-flight football competition.

The Mariners five Westfield W-League home matches will be split between Parramatta Stadium and Campbelltown Stadium in western Sydney, many of which will be played back-to-back with fixtures involving southern rivals Sydney FC.

The Mariners team, which is funded and operated by Football NSW, will train at the Football NSW headquarters at Valentine throughout the ten-round campaign and Finals Series, which will conclude in mid-January 2009.

"Were very excited by this new era for womens football in Australia and applaud Stephen Roche and his team for assembling a very impressive squad that were confident will represent the Mariners with distinction throughout the inaugural Westfield W-League season," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

"The Westfield W-League is a very unique situation for us in that due to the competition being largely funded and operated by the state associations, we will be training and playing away from the Central Coast, which in itself is an exciting opportunity for us to expand upon the Mariners brand beyond the Central Coast.

"The growth that womens football has enjoyed in recent years is simply staggering and were delighted to be involved in the Westfield W-League and contributing to the fastest growing sport in Australia."

Headlining the Mariners line up are current Qantas Matildas Lyndsay Glohe and Renee Rollason both of whom are with the Australian senior national team in Thailand at present for the ASEAN Womens Football Championships.

Exciting 17-year-old striker Kyah Simon, the namesake of current Mariners Hyundai A-League sharpshooter Matt Simon, is likely to lead the line in the Westfield W-League for the Mariners, having impressed at restricted age and senior international levels of late.

Defender Caitlin Cooper is another emerging talent on the radar of the Qantas Matildas, having been a cornerstone member of the Qantas Young Matildas in recent years, while fellow defender Ellyse Perry is one of the countrys brightest prospects at not only football, but also cricket, having represented Australia in both sports by the age of 16.

The Mariners Westfield W-League team are in training at present looking ahead to their historic opening fixture away to the Melbourne Victory on Saturday, 25 October, which is a curtain raiser to the Victorys Hyundai A-League blockbuster against Sydney FC at the Telstra Dome later that evening.

"Im very happy with the squad that weve been able to put together and I have no doubts that well be very competitive throughout the season," said Roche.

"Weve managed to recruit a sound mix of youth and experience and Im certain that some exciting football talents will emerge from our playing ranks in the not too distant future, which is of course one of the primary focuses of this exciting new Westfield W-League.

"Weve been hard at work in training for several weeks now and were well and truly counting the days until our first match in Mariners colours, which is a most exciting prospect for myself and every member of our playing squad."

I absolutely love that Ben Coonan, no matter what never fails to put a positive spin on anything Mariners. Great work again!

I feel sorry for the ladies. They'll never perform in front of a home crowd.

None of them are from the coast are they?

I'm pretty sure a couple of Coast girls went to Newcastle because training was too far from them in Sydney.

All in all this whole W-League has been a massive disappointment for supporters, amd especially women on the Coast.

I know Ben is trying to put the organisation spin on it and he has to being media manager, but saying this is expanding the Mariners brand is just total bullshit. Playing games in Sydney has been a massive blow to us and shows what a lack of respect the Central Coast football public still has to the FFA and Football NSW.

Some of this relationship with Football NSW has been self-inflicted but the FFA has let us down badly on this one.

I'm with you Mick. I was ready to cover as much as we could across the nation, but it seems only a few locations will be accessible, with perhaps Canberra being the best supported (for obvious reasons with their HAL bid in the wind).

As for the Mariners team - hey if they wear the badge and colours I'll back them but doubt I can even get to a game with the clashes involved.

A couple of good players in the squad but I think we will be also-rans behind the likes of Newcastle and Perth, with Canberra & Adelaide dark horses.

Ex Matilda Gillian Foster is at least a resident of the true yellow southern disputed territories, and a friend of my niece.

. at least that release answers a few questions ... unfortunately it raises far too many more questions

. with a sprinkling of experience (age-wise) seems like quite a young squad, but have to admit i didn't know what to expect on that front

. shame i am not likely to get to see them play. could they not have at least tied a 'home' game into when the kiddies (youth league) aren't raising the curtain for the 'big boys'? .... would a token coast game really be too much to ask?

Can't say that any girls were "forced to go North" There was only one or two Central Coast players who turned up to the original trials. I too am mystified as to no games at Central Coast but as a parent of a player selected and living in the new Central Coast suburb of Macarthur I am personally quite pleased to have home games at Campbelltown Stadium. Hey I might be the whole Home Crowd!!!!!

That Said the team has been training quite hard and there are some class players in the team.

I cant understand why they are not played with the mens comp post or prior the mens game. Will surely mean that the possible audience will be diminished, as well as more possible supporters going to a-league games.
