Clarky would be great but whenever we have a loss and he plays people are usually calling for his head cause he's to old too slow half the reason he's not in the starting line up as it is.
I think the only REAL options are:
Wilko....out of form
hutch.... same goes
heff ......injured
clarky....isnt classed as a starter butt would be great as captin
sash....would be strange but hes healthy n still got form
jedi...leads by exsample but lacks the communication
Danny....loose can but will keep things interesting

lol. How do you know this?
He had heaps good communication when I played in his team last week...

I wouldn't change captain for the obvious reasons, which seem to have been covered. With that said, however, I chose Jedinak, purely on his work rate and the fact that some of the boys once told me that he is the leader of the pack and 'what ever Mile says... goes...'.

Is Tyson the new Kareem?!

Yeah, and I only play 1st division and Premier League. When I was playing in a lower grade, I was the best in the team and was always the first to get called up to Premier League.

Fitness notwithstanding, I would like to see:

Bozza
Clarkie Wilko Boogs Bojic
Porter Jedi Caceres Hutch(??)
Matt S Saso

Porter is a midfielder and not a defender and Matty doesnt deserve to be dropped.

Sadly, we have virtually no other players fit enough to be considered. That in itself causes a problem because there is no competition for places.

A fit Heff and then Wilko has competition for a CB spot against Bojic, a fit Gumps and Hutcho has some worries.

Personally, I have never been a fan of a goalkeeper as a Captain because they are restricted to one area of the pitch.

A keeper should be the most vocal anyway without being captain.
He also has rule over all players in his goal area, so all players should heed what he says.

Interesting what different people see.
I saw our formation as more 4 3 1 2 rather than the standard 4 4 2.

I saw Caceras have a great game and adding attacking spark that has been missing. But that may be like a red rag to a bull here, nearly as bad as saying Tommy was very ordinary when he came on for Melbourne.

I think Wilko's form has been patchy since he was injured last season but that he is still the best centre back we have available and clearly the best captain material.

I also saw Melbourne attackers caught offside time and time again by a well organised defence, which did not happen last year.

I would see replacing him as captain at this stage as an over reaction very early in the season when the team is not playing badly. This would be destabilizing especially in a team that relies on spirit rather than superstars.

Likening it to V2 is wrong. The form in V2 was diabolical in comparison.

The point I was trying to make with what ifs is that we are not too different to early last season where the luck went our way and everyone was happy while the football was not as good.

What I find offensive is the "constructive criticism" that appears here seems to consist of simple bagging out of Ossie, Caceras, Boogard, Lawrie, Hutch, Porter (watch out for Roddy) and even Bojic. Most of which is just posters using a player's mistake to reinforce their preconceived hate or love of another displaced. Check through the posts it becomes obvious and the criticism is rarely constructive.

I also saw both our goals came from good passes and not long balls, as did many of the near misses.

I do get offended by unjustified criticism of players by people who clearly watch the game from a disadvantged position both physically and mentally.

As to who we should have as captain if Wilko were out. I would choose Bozza closely followed by Clarky.

How to fix our current woes:
for next week I would bring back Clarky and move Porter up in place of Hutch and leave Caceras behind Matty and Sash.
I would advise Hutchi to stop diving and to move the ball quicker, tell Sasho to keep reving the opposition but to watch his step as the refs will soon be on to him.
I would like to see McCallister starting but he is now going to have to wait for his chance now.

I would not be panicking, and preaching doom and gloom and dwelling on the negatives.

FFS in five games we have played last years champions and the two "favourites" for this year. We have 3 draws, a win and a one goal loss. Each of those draws should have been wins but for stupid mistakes.

What do we hear here:
Get rid of the captain,
Change our formation,
Change our style of play,

FFS for some it is obviously time for a cup of tea a Bex and a good lie down.

:goodpost:

I agree with nearly all of what is written, especially the great game Caceres had. I think our attacking options, when all fit, will be the best in the league. We looked good in attack on the weekend without Nik, Heff and for the most part Dyl.

My (off topic - sorry) concern is not where goals will come from but how to stem the tide at the other end.

Last years back four before injuries of

Osman Boogs Viddy Heff, backed up by Danny was rock solid.

With Viddy gone, Heff injured and Osman still making his way back it doesn't look near as formidable.

Osman Boogs Wilko and Pedj are probably one of the youngest backlines in the HAL and will develop and they are adaptable. Osman and Pedj can play either fullback position and Wilko can also play at RB as he did in V1. Throw in Heff and Clarky and it all looks okay. What is missing - a bit of mongrel? Our own Musc**t or Ogmonster?

I'm not sure what the answer is for the Mariners. One option would be to move Jedi back. Not something I would like to do because it would weaken another position. Although I think this is where his future lies in the NT!!

Because at the moment, I can only see us beating Perth and Wellington (and we couldn't even do that), and possibly QLD on a bad day for them.

That is the biggest load of crap i have heard on this forum! FFS the season is 5 games old and we have played less long ball and a better passing game than at any other time, without a good AM.
We can beat any other team going around as some parts of our games have shown, we are just not playing the full 90mins.

.............and who are you again??

We have the most gifted AM in the league in Caceres, it's just that he is being shockingly misused. Not once have I ever bagged him or his ability out - in fact, those who know me will testify that he is the replacement for my man love of Tommy P.

You must be somewhat visually impaired if you think we're playing a good passing game at the moment..... and to try and excuse our performances thus far with "we're not playing the full 90 minutes"?? As Mitchell said to me tonight, "two f*ck ups after the 90th minute and here we are 4 points down". We need tactics/mental whatever to stand up and say "you know what, the game might be 90 minutes long in theory, but sometimes the clock says that a goal was scored at 90+4 - hows about we don't let that happen", yknow??

At the moment, we just don't have that and it's really worrying me.

Ursus - I have to disagree with your point about not watching the game from the right point of view mentally and physically...... both behind the goals and on the sidelines have their good and bad points, but to discount what I have to say because I stand in 16 to watch the game is entirely unfair.

Adrian played well in that AM role on the weekend but others think he has struggled their in the past and he is a better winger!

Serious how do you think he played on Sat night?
Personally i thought he was outstanding but we lacked the outlet on the lefthand side of the field and played narrow except for Porter on the right wing. Hutch doesnt play well at left midfield so if Adrian plays AM how does the team stayed balanced?

That comment was not specifically about you, I did not know where you sat, but a general one brought about by all the post match comments I see on this forum.

I have thought long and hard why I am seeing things differently to many opinions posted on this forum.

From the physical point of view for first 2 seasons I watched from Bay 16 and like Tiger (AKA Brett) would not comment on a match until after I had seen the replay on tv. Eveb then you only see what is on screen. There were just so many things that I used to miss. Pieman in V1 was always telling us that in Bay 16 we only saw parts of the game.

At North Sydney I used to watch from the Mac Terrace and local games I watched from the side lines. Both are far from ideal. It was not until late in V2 I was given a couple of good tickets (gold and high up) for a one of the games where I realised how much I was missing, the difference was amazing.

Hence I have moved seats.

Mentally we all have our favourites and our hates we just have to be careful not to lose our objectivity. This can lead to many of the comments becoming not constructive, become destructive, lead to disharmony in the group and can spread fairly quickly the club.

I have seen it happen and am (probably Unreasonably) scared of it happening here. We are not a big club with a city behind us. We are playing and have played above our weight due to the talent of our management, spending, in the main wisely, and creating harmony.

I may have a mental blind spot in my support of Lawrie and Lyall and their support teams but their stability is the strength of this club

It is very easy when results are not going well to jump on bandwagon and looking for scapegoats to blame, then the prophecies become self fulfilling.
I do not want to see us being like Perth.

I agree with constructive discussion about addressing problems, but putting up a poll asking who should be captain at this stage is an over reaction. The way it is posed now is preferable but in my view very premature.

Hutch used to play very well on the wing for Spirit. It has been a few years, he may take a little time to readjust.

He tucks in to much these days and is use to playing centrally. We need to bring a winger into the squad or get owens fit to give gaffer options. Hutch isnt certainity at the moment to be picked each week but he is vice captain.

1) i think u'll find there has been plenty of people with positive things to say about ossie.

2) Fans right to express THEIR opinion on players, coaches, tactics, who has the biggest schlong etc.

3) All supporters around the world question players abilities etc so do not make out like this is a rare thing

4) Have a nice day

Yeh, but to say that the only teams we can beat are Perth, Wellington and perhaps Queensland is just going overboard don't you think? We've had two home games - Sydney and Melbourne. Based upon the way we've played so far this season, I can't see any reason why we can't beat all 5 remaining teams at home. We beat Roar away FFS.

Yup, Ossie supporter here.

At the moment, he is a tad weary as most are after an injury.

I am fairly confident he will return to his former self!
