ROAR young gun Robbie Kruse is thrilled at the prospect of teaming up in attack alongside Queensland's latest boy from Brazil, Bruno Mezenga.

Having yesterday revealed the Roar would be gaining the services of a member of Brazil's 2005 FIFA Under-17 World Championship squad, The Courier-Mail can today unveil him as Mezenga, a 19-year-old striker belonging to famous Rio de Janeiro club Flamengo.

Mezenga and the Roar's other mystery Brazilian signing also an attacking weapon will arrive in Queensland within two weeks.

Kruse was a member of the Joeys squad that took part in the 2005 tournament in Peru and knows better than most the damage Mezenga can cause, having him seen him in action first-hand.

"He's a good player, as most Brazilians are," Kruse said.

"To play in the Brazilian teams at youth level is an indication that he has talent.

"Back then he was pretty physically developed. Hopefully he can bring a lot to our team and do a good job like Reinaldo did."

Striker Reinaldo and fellow Brazilian Marcinho both left the club at the end of last season, leaving the Roar short of attacking spark.

Mezenga tipped to be loaned to the Roar from Flamengo for at least one season is expected to go a long way towards filling the breach.

Flamengo thinks so highly of the 183cm attacker that it has signed him on a long-term deal that does not expire until April 30, 2012.

Van Stratten is now a free agent, negotiations are under way for him to come to the Mariners. He was heading to Sydney, though Bolton has a contract locked in there as one of the better paid players, someones arse should be kicked over that one.  Management doesn't want to see us playing with a second string keeper for an extended period.

Sauce?

on wiki they dont have him in team lists

Vanstrattan played some pre-season games for the Old Lady, becoming the first Australian to turn out for the club. However, in early August 2007, the Lega Calcio ruled that the goalkeeper's contract at Juventus was illegal and was to be cancelled.

Now officially under contract to Verona once again, the two clubs have agreed on a loan deal which saw the player return to Juventus on August 21 in time for the 2007-08 Serie A season.

Also from wikipedia, id rather juventus than mariners..

I'd bet 50 bucks that it will be Ney Fabiano.

He's the bloke that scored the first goal against MVFC for Chonburi FC on matchday 2.

A mate of mine i play soccer with, who is friends with van stratten said that he is quite keen to return to australia. I dont think it is for football reasons, but that he is interested in playing here.

Unfortunately, he said that he had talked, (presumably perliminary at best) with sydney and newcastle.

Sydney surely could not afford him, sio dont expectr much came from that.

The scum have the room under the cap. But, if they are interested in signing him, maybe they feel that covic will not be there by the time the season starts. I cant see covic happy being number 2. Cant see Van straten happy as number 2 either.

I was surprised that he has not been approached by the mariners. I would assume we have some salary cap room to use, as well as a need for a 'keeper due to danny. He is a coastie ofcourse, so would have thought we would have at least sounded him out.

The 'sauce' is more than reliable... Contract at Juve has come to an end...

I presume his agent has got him dressed in his tracksuit and running up and down the streets near their training ground. Then he can tell other prospective League 1 clubs about how Arsenal were after him.

Harry Kewell has just finished his contract with Liverpool. We can dream cant we?

Do we need him?? We already have a fragile player with no heart

I still highly rate Harry...
But the next two years of his career in many ways I feel will be the two most important for him. It's a make or... well not strictly speaking break, but certainly a critical crossroads in his career... Most players of subsequence seem to have at least one at a given point in their career and how they pull through tells and counts for much.

That doesn't mean that negotiations are under way to join the mariners, though.

Bosnich return linked to Roar - Fox Sports

May 24, 2008 FORMER Australia goalkeeper and self-confessed cocaine addict Mark Bosnich could re-launch his career with Queensland Roar.

Southern sources have confirmed the A-League club has been in discussions with 36-year-old Bosnich about a guest player stint during the upcoming season.

The Roar has denied it has been in discussions.

The career of Bosnich, whose former clubs include Manchester United and Aston Villa, nosedived in 2002 when he was sacked by Chelsea for failing a drugs test.

He later admitted to having a cocaine problem and revealed he was at one stage snorting 10g of white powder each day.

But Roar coach Frank Farina has been a long-time admirer of Bosnich, who played 17 times for the Socceroos.

"There is no question that Mark was one of the best goalkeepers Australia has produced - maybe even the best," the former Socceroos mentor said in his exclusive Courier-Mail column last year.

Farina and Roar chief executive Lawrence Oudendyk denied the club was in negotiations with Bosnich, who has also been linked with a move to Central Coast Mariners.

An overweight Bosnich returned to football last year, training with English lower division club Queens Park Rangers. He quickly lost 15kg and later indicated his desire to again play professionally.

"I think I'm ready to play now, but whether or not staying here (England) or going somewhere else or not playing at all, I haven't really looked that far ahead. That's in others' hands," he told Fox Sports's Total Football.

Aidan Ormond
May 24 2008 22:26

EXCLUSIVE: Bruce Djite has signed a three-year deal with Turkish Super League outfit Genclerbirligi.
As predicted by au.fourfourtwo.com recently, the Adelaide United man has chosen Turkey for the next stage of his career.

The 21-year-old is joining Nick Carle's former club, based in the Turkish capital Ankara.

He is due to start with his new club next month.

The 21-year-old forward is hoping the club becomes a stepping stone to a bigger European league as he looks to shore up a spot in the Socceroo frontline.

Last year, the same club signed Socceroo Carle, who has since moved to Bristol City and is poised to play EPL football next season.

Genclerbirligi previously had Socceroo Joe Skoko on its books.

Jon Ritson
Jun 2 2008 13:14

BREAKING NEWS: FORMER Benfica and Melbourne Victory starlet Kaz Patafta has signed for Newcastle Jets in a one year deal.
Jets coach Gary van Egmond confirmed the swoop to au.fourfourtwo.com this morning.

Canberra-born Patafta 19, has agreed to a one year deal with Newcastle and bolsters Van Egmonds squad as they prepare to embark on their defence of the Hyundai A-league crown and their Asian Champions League campaign.

Patafta is an Australian Under 17 and Under 20 National Team representative who played with the Melbourne Victory during the 2007-2008 season after being loaned out by Portuguese giants Benfica.

We are excited to have Kaz in our playing group for the forthcoming year, said van Egmond.

"Kaz was named in the World 11 side for his age group a couple of years ago and we look forward to seeing Kaz progress in accordance with that standing."

Hartlepool have refused to let Joel Porter escape the extension clause in his contract, meaning he will be forced to play another year for them instead of his preffered choice, going to the Phoenix even after he had agreed to terms on a 3 year contract.

That sucks for nix. Would have been a good signing for them.

Unless he decides to buy out the last year of his contract, but that surely would not be worth his while.

Roar add more firepower
Monday, 16 June 2008

Queensland has secured the services of Dutch striker Sergio van Dijk on a two-year deal.

The 25-year-old has impressed in the Roar Roadshow training matches since arriving in Brisbane late in June.

He netted a double in a 4-0 win over Redlands United just days after touching down in Australia.

The former FC Emmen and FC Groningen frontman has scored 52 times in 194 senior appearances in the two top divisions in Holland.

Van Dijk said he was delighted to have signed with the Roar.

"I'm very happy to sign here," van Dijk said.

"I played for a second division club (in Holland) and it is not as professional as here ... they are all positive things here in Australia."

"I want to score goals, that's the thing I have to do. But I also want to help the team to play better football."

"Hopefully we can win the grand final."

The striker said he was pleased to play under the vastly experienced coaching staff headed by Frank Farina.

Queensland will be in action again on Tuesday night as the Roar pre-season continues against Peninsula Power at AJ Kelly Field.

Activities begin at 4.30pm with the match between the Roar and Power scheduled to kick-off at 7.15pm.
