ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Yeah, tie that in with hundreds of millions of dollars in DAs going before both Gosford and Wyong Councils recently, the wacky theme park thing at Warnervale, etc. There needs to be consideration of upgrading Warnervale Airport to being a regional jet-capable airport soon, surely. That would bring Central Coast Stadium into the mix for international events (like the Asian Cup) that require venues be within 45m of an 'international' airport.

Imagine the difference in feel in Gosford if instead of boarded up shopfronts and long-vacant sites, we had something like this across from the Leagues Club?

I'm by no means a NIMBY. I accept that progress is inevitable, but I maintain progress must be balanced, in this case balanced with maintaining the stadium's presence. It would be great if the waterfront development could finish, that end, at the palm tree behind the two "very concerned" ladies in the Smelly's picture. ie. that the "temporary building modules" finish their eastward impingement about where the Brian McGowan bridge begins it's ramp up. And the area east of that could be an upgraded park'ish area until further around Dane Drive where it wouldn't detract on the CCS visage. That would probably be acceptable to the two old biddies too. Hmm, perhaps we should be in our CCS Stadium thread for this post, sorta deviated a bit. But when talking about the "Turbulence" it is hard not to talk about all the financial aspects, including this.

Warnervale's pretty much out of the question at this point. Upgrading the airport would first require repealing the Warnervale Airport (Restrictions) Act (which limits any runway to 1,200m and imposes a curfew and limits on a new or extended runway); plus with the new Town Centre being developed I would imagine that there would be thousands of new residents opposed to a new runway.

An airport at Wallarah would be more likely than one at Warnervale - but that would require the Wallarah 2 coal project to be knocked back once and for all.

Actually, Steve pretty much did suggest that they'll sell us out.

I thank you not to speak for me Dibo. Especially when you get it totally wrong.

There is a massive difference between not saving us, and selling us out. You my friend are the one with paranoia.

Ancient Mariner has nailed it in his post. And he has plenty of evidence supporting his comments. You need to bone up on Football History 101, champ.

You're the one telling me to read up on football history (as if I'd come down in the last shower) and insisting the FFA won't save us *and* you're calling me paranoid?

Have you got me mixed up with someone else?

I'm the one putting arguments to say why FFA won't let us die; it's fair to say I'm not paranoid. The opposite, you'd think.

I disagree with what AM is saying; I think we are working from very different core assumptions.

The pressure from the Football community in general not to play at NSO is building... add I think SFC behind the scenes will be ranting at an A-League club close enough to see their lights at night ... my reading of the tea leafs is NSO will get minimal usage in the future ...

Brookie with the Pens again guessing wanting the Mariners as a co tenant ... my reading of the same tea cup is the rent they want ..... any decent study I think will show its a poor move...

Essentially leaves the ACT... however a tad far away from the COE ...

MC saved our club and is running it his way, to date many good things and two poor areas, community engagement and marketing to the CC, and a desire to market in Northern Sydney by moving games to NS...

FFA need 12 teams for the 100 million dollar media deal... they need all existing 10 clubs eerr maybe 9 depends on AFC & the NIX's to be travelling well... given our rent is $7,500.00 per match and FFA cover our wages again my reading of the tea leafs is keeping us afloat [sorry about the pun] by way of a regional grant of some kind is the most likely outcome... this will be tied to I assume certain behaviour from MC...

I agree, the media in general is against the idea too. On SBS Extra Time last night they said it was unacceptable to be play on cricket pitches. Just waiting for the FFA to block any further moves.

If FFA pull down a $100m deal next time up, even if only half goes to the A-League across 12 teams you're still looking at over $4m a year. I'd expect the PFA to lobby for an immediate increase in the salary cap, but even if the cap jumped by 25% to $3.2m we'd be $800k a year better off in net terms. Surely we'd be profitable then, even on a crowd average of ~9k. And other small clubs would stand a good chance of being profitable very quickly.

This is why it's important to stay the course on the Central Coast.

Last year the only complaints about playing at NSO came from us fans. Don't recall any words from Phoenix about the playing surface.
Now this year, Muscat & MV aren't happy and suddenly the media aren't happy either and maybe pressure mounting on FFA to stop playing there again. Wouldn't normally support Muscat in anything -- if he wanted it, I'd oppose it -- but this time if NSO finally gets canned, I'll be eternally grateful to him.

Unless you've got uncannily youthful looks, I'd say you did come down in the last shower, comparatively speaking. :)

Paranoia is indeed the wrong word, perhaps pronoia is better, or maybe this?

Look, I really, truely hope you are right, but I've seen too many clubs fold that followed a similar track that the Mariners are taking. You may call it paranoia, I call it being realistic. Time will tell.

Indeed, Zrilla gave the NSO experiment a spray alright, I dont know if he was on his own there, cause they wernt bagging the pitch on friday night broadcast
as for the FFA blocking, they had their opportunity to do so and didnt

Having one game there is or thing. Have 4-5 us another. They won't let it happen.

I'm into my mid-30s - I'm not entirely a spring chicken! :p

I get where you're coming from, and I'll note that we do tend to sit on opposite ends of the optimism/pessimism spectrum. I get where AM is coming from too, I just put a higher weight on a) the value we present to the FFA, and b) the damage that the FFA will see (and want to avoid) being done to what will remain a key market if the club is buggered up.

Regarding a new TV deal, I think the NRL is onto something with their idea on how to raise more revenue through their coverage...

http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl...147534705?nk=de866b9937103b3b18495de970848a71

THE most radical changes in rugby league history — including four-quarter football over 100 minutes — are under consideration at the NRL.

The changes would generate hundreds of millions of dollars in extra revenue from the TV networks through quarter-time advertising breaks and an extra 20 minutes of game time.

Maybe the A-League could look at doing a 120 minute game split up into sixteenths.

The changes would generate bazillions of squillions of dollars in extra revenue from the TV networks through sixteenth-time advertising breaks and a whopping extra 30 minutes of game time (plus injury time).

Someone get David Gallop on the phone!

Somebody check the calendar. Is it 1st. April? 16 bits of 7 min. 30 sec. bites of the game. Wow!

Just an idea ;)

If the NRL's idea is to put more breaks in so they can have more ads, why stop at quarters... why not go all the way for maximum $$$ profit :D

Yes, there is logic behind the quarters idea. For Football we could have 4 x 25 min. quarters with maybe a 5 min. 1st. and 3rd. break and the halftime break 10 mins. Could work! Would mean a real traffic jam at the bar in the 1st & 3rd. breaks though. :D
