Whoa oh, the "can't have a negative opinion about players on the team" police have struck.......

Wilko - aside from one game this season, has been horridly out of form, and when your captain is out of form, it's going to affect the rest of the team whether you want it to or not.  My sneaking suspicion is that it's his knee, but either way, he needs a spell on the bench to either sort the knee out or get it into his head that:

i).  Most recent prominent example - Archie's goal last night, look at the replay.  Where was the diligent captain and _CENTRE F*CKING BACK_ WHOSE PRIMARY ROLE IS TO DEFEND THE CENTRE OF THE FIELD IN FRONT OF THE GOALIE??  Off in the background having given up the chase when Archie was still 25 yards out, hands on hips.  It was left to Porter (the _right_ back) to make a darn decent fist of his chase.  Alas it wasn't enough, but both Boogs and Wilko can be blamed for this one.  The reason I'm not singling Boogs out is that this is far from the first time this season Wilko has had this happen to him.

ii).  His current positional play is terrible.  So many times last night (and all this season) I noticed that he was dragging Boogs over and Jedi back because he was in the wrong spot.  Seriously, Jedi is doing the work of three players at the moment, and it's starting to affect his primary role (which quite obviously is DM, not CB).

iii).  He does not go in for challenges anymore.  Three separate occasions last night I noted that he stood off players (Thompson twice and I think it was Hernandez, may have been Fabiano) for a solid 20/30m whilst they ran at him - suckered him in they did.  It was the mistake of an Under 8's player, not a full time professional and our captain.

iv).  Surely you cannot deny that a captain low on form would not impact the rest of the team.  When we concede a goal, and you look to the captain to lift you and inspire you, and he's however-far-behind-he-was where he's supposed to be, hands on hips and a clueless look on his face, then wouldn't you start to feel a bit 'eh' about the whole situation??

Now, as for our mate Hutcho......

i). When we play the ball on the ground, about 60, 70% of our attacking play goes through the CM position, which Hutcho currently occupies.  Now, when 95% of the time, he either passes it back, hoofs it high (ineffectually), or does that insufferable "turn-on-the-spot-and-fall-over" thing that the referees no longer fall for (most of the time), then it disrupts the momentum of the entire attack.  Essentially, when the crux point of an entire attacking movement is shit at attacking, then won't the attack crumble??

ii).  I dunno if he's carrying an injury as well, but he's lost a solid couple of yards of pace since V1.  I know that happens with players getting older and all that, but when you have a ready made replacement on the bench who is _hungry_ to get on the field (Gumps, as he showed last night), then why not use him??  All personal off field bullshit aside??

iii). Hutcho's corners and freekicks are _rubbish_.  Yes, one led to our goal last night, but guess what??  Theo had 18 or so people infront of him, and the ball suprised him with what I figured was about 0.2 seconds of sight before he moved to save it.  CORNERS ARE A SOLID ATTACKING PLATFORM AND MUST BE EXPLOITED.  When one whole side of the corner taking option can't get his kick past the first man, or floats it so far over everyone that it goes out, wouldn't you explore another option??

Shall I go on??

P.S.  Fair enough Greenpole, but I caught the replay on the hotel Foxtel this morning, hence my actual anger, not 'in ground anger'.    ;)

Ok so just watched the highlights on the tube.
Tommy P good goal, Macca onside.
and the one thing I noticed most, Celeski stole 10 yards or so on the freekick and got away with it, and the commentator applauded him for it. I know it's no where near as bad as diving but still..

Lived in Sydney for many years when I was younger.  Been to Melbourne many a time and have quite a few friends who live down there.  Just calling it as I see it.

shame HAL refs aren't subject to a post match review and a subsequent game ban or temp demotion for any major bad calls swaying the outcome of the game.
then it may please you to know that they are, assistants in particular. A number of our best remembered bad calls by assistants have actually resulted in those officials being dropped for a few weeks. Going to have to get a clip of those offside calls. Melbourne just tore us apart in the 2nd half...we dominated the first half but we were no match in the 2nd

Mr Serious14, it's easy to decide who you do and don't like first, then create some evidence to justify your opinion.

Hutch had a better game than Mile on Friday. Mile is trying way too hard, it's like he is trying to break into the Socceroos team overnight instead of just focusing on improving bit by bit each week. There were too many killer ball attempts from him that weren't on and lost possession. If you give Melbourne the ball in their current form you can't expect to get it back easily - that's how it panned out and we ran out of puff chasing shadows while they played 1-2s. Hutch provides the balance in our team because he holds us up and played a simple pass at every opportunity. Some nights this works out well and other times it doesn't, but on Friday it was useful.

If you knew anything about our squad - and I'm not talking about inside knowledge, just observing the games and reading the paper - you'd know that Wilko and Hutch are the drivers of our famous team dynamic and the reason we just seem to win all the time (have you seen the table).

I'm not disputing most of the points you've made about the players there. But you can pick apart most player's games the same way every week. It realistically can't be the same one or two players at the bottom of the ratings every week.

I don't think there's any "no negative opinion about players" police. That was dissipated half way through V1. There's just people sick of hearing misguided opinions, especially when they're expressed in ways that reflect on the rest of the group.

Comments about particular players just does not tally with the Foxsports Fantasy league rankings - and I know which is the most reliable source ;)  :p

Football is a game of opinions and as long as they are individually expressed (which they are) and not put forward as "truth", thats what a forum is for.

As paying customers, we have a right to criticise if we dont like whats on offer. I'm sure the 38,000 people at the Rieu gig at the Dome would have let him know if he had been shit.

I havent commented on specific performances on Friday coz I could see f**k all and havent caught a replay (except the "goals")

James knows I disagree with him about Wilko and tend to agree that this season is 1 too many for Hutch.

I reckon there are 7 (soon 9) HAL teams that would take Wilko in a heartbeat. In all truth, do you think Adel, SFC, MV would take Hutch? Me neither

Yes it is. But when it turns into constant Hutch and Wilko bashing week in and week out, its getting disgusting and almost predictable that after every match there will be some slander on here towards both players regardless of how they performed - people just keep finding something negative. Case in point was when Hutch copped a freekick to the gut last week and went down winded, instead of the "supporters" in the bay crying out "kick the ball out" or the like, everyone wanted to lynch him for not getting up straight away and getting back into the game.
WTF some people call themselves supporters I dont know.

yeh but the Allstars sports bar had a few onsite to cheer the boys....methinks we even managed to drown out the slurping and burping from the buffet there at one point

Perm, you might want to never consider being a Sydney supporter then. Our boards are pretty tame TBH. A few quality extracts from their post game discussion about last night:  :)

I really hope Corica retires at the end of the season. He's struggling now another year on and he'll be well past it.

Corica needs to start on the bench, the legs are already giving in.

Bimbi toiled hard but doesnt have the legs

People wonder why Sydney crowds are low... it's because half the team are a pack of wankers.

And I darent post some of what they are saying about Aloisi. :naughty:

My opinion is that football supporters identify more with the team/shirt/club than with individuals. Therefore, if (we) perceive someone is stopping the side achieve they become the culprit = stick

Anyone with strong stomachs can check out what the scum think of Wheelhouse too

:vomit:

Not saying its right or wrong, its just a fact of life.
