I'm basing it on last WC where 22 points was second.

There's more spots to go around now though (unless im mistaken and that's next WC cycle) so 2nd isnt necessary for direct qualification.

There's more spots, but there's also 3 groups up from 2. 1st and 2nd in each group qualify directly to the world cup.

3rd and 4th go to the playoff pathway - another 2 mini groups where winners go to WC and second play off to go to the intercontinental play off. I'm not particularly confident we win a group stage with potentially UAE, Qatar, Iraq, or Iran.

So second is in fact necessary for direct qualification.

He looked great apart from stupid fouls at the attacking end for being to aggressive. Not suited to Asian paper mache players but would be good against stronger opponents but not sure about RB.

I think there is a strong case for a back 3.
