Newcastle Jets release Air Force jersey:

Newcastle Jets have announced they will recognise their round eight clash with Brisbane Roar as the club’s inaugural RAAF Base Williamtown round.

RAAF Base Williamtown has over 2,000 families living in the Newcastle and Hunter Valley community and is Australia’s main fighter pilot training base.

The Jets, which since its inception has featured three F/A-18 Hornets, have fostered a partnership with the organisation that is "central to its identity".

Players and staff were given a special tour of the base in October, as well as taking a part in a leadership discussion.

The five senior players also modelled the one-off kit that they will wear against the Roar.

Newcastle Jets Interim Chief Executive Officer Mr David Eland said that the club is now in a position to confirm some of the components that make up the RAAF Base Williamtown round.

“Today the club can confirm that up to 3,000 complimentary tickets are being offered to RAAF Base Williamtown’s military personnel and civilian employees for the match against Brisbane,” Mr Eland said.

“This will enable hundreds of families associated with the Air Force who are living in our community to get a taste of the Hyundai A-League and support the Jets.”

“Moreover, our team will take to the field by walking through a guard of honour containing RAAF Base Williamtown staff, with each player accompanied by a child who has family working on base.”

“We have also invited Air Commodore Steve Roberton – a man who has been instrumental in the development of the RAAF Base Williamtown round and who led the leadership discussion with our players and coaches last month – to toss the coin prior to the match.”

“Certainly a key component of our RAAF Base Williamtown round will be the truly unique kit that the team will wear for the game. The jerseys feature F/A-18 Hornets on the front as well as Air Force insignia on the sleeve, plus Newcastle Jets and Hyundai A-League branding”, Eland explained.

I don't think the shorts work with the shirt at all....but to be fair, this sort of community involvement is what regional clubs should be doing, so good on them. The RAAF base is important up that way. I wasn't aware there was a particular partnership between the Jets and the RAAF though. Still, to have a themed round on something that's important to some members of their particular community, themed one-off jersey and a huge amount of free tickets, well done to them.

. the shirt if bad enough ... but the full ensemble :vomit:... particularly carney and those shoes :piralaugh:

. whilst i can appreciate the community engagement motivation ... pictures of war machines on your jersey (i s'pose technically you could call them defense machines) is a little 'wrong' imho considering current world events

. i am normally one of the first to jump on 'political correctness gone mad' ... but this one makes me feel really uneasy about any statement or interpretation

I don't mind the Jersey – not as good as the CCM one of course, but it's miles better than their away strip which looks like a Sydney strip.

This just sums up MV to a 'T' though, doesn't it?

-Jets have a one-off strip to celebrate a local military base which is important to the area and have (apparently) help a relationship with the club. The strip is directly celebrating that connection.
-CCM have a one-off strip to celebrate a charity which is in line with an iconic feature of the coast. The strip is directly celebrating that organisation
-WP have a one-off strip, but nobody knows why because it's Wellington and the extent of people caring about them is that they'd prefer they exist compared to not existing.
-MV have a one-off strip to celebrate the fact that they're playing against their last GF opponents (even though they've already played them this year). Their strip is purely a self-congratulatory wank by calling it a 'Champions' jersey.

All class.

I wish we'd done it.

If you're gonna be a wanker, be a wanker about being unquestionably the best side in the country, *especially* if you knock your biggest rivals off in the final. And do it in front of them.

True. But it still just reinforces why I'd rather get the wooden spoon but support CCM, than win 5 years in a row and support MV.

Made me think though, I wonder what people would think if, say as a bit of a FFA rule on the uniforms, the grand final winners and champions have some sort of insignia or something celebrating this under the team emblem on the strips.
Would have the additional benefit of merchandise sales of the 'champion' kits - and would also respect the premiers, not just the toilet seat winners.

Agree. The scum have worked very hard for their spoons and they were well deserved.

Monty does not deserve to be captain of the wooden spooners.
