Thank f**k for WeeMac. He was everything today, and if we had a decent striking pair that game was ours.

Mrdja was horrible, absolute garbage and provided nothing for the team. MacAllister was also pretty poor. WeeMac was the only one attacking with real conviction and urgency, but the problem was that the front two weren't. They provided no options when WeeMac broke forward and Sydney simple closed down and swept up. That said, their back line is reasonably good.

Travis was good but didn't have enough options.

The general play was good from us, and we really should have won. We desperately need a solution for when we dont have Matty. Anyone know if this Lachlan Cahill bloke can play upfront?

Boogs- another outstanding game.
Hutch- solid, did well.

You're far too kind FFC, we dominated that game and were it not for some poor finishing we'd have been 3 up at half-time and 6 up by the end.

CCM's three chances were a horror f**k up by Bolton, the header from Macallister, and that screamers from McGlinchey (how the f**k did Bolton save that?!). We had more than that in the first half.

All came down to slack turnovers from CCM out of defence and a good pressure game from the SFC midfield. Musialik, McFlynn and Kisel all played very very well in pressuring their opposition. CCM didn't help by giving us the ball in the middle of the park, and CCM defenders hate having players running at them.

1-0 flattered CCM, both sides with improvement to come. But that will go down as a big nail in Mrdja's career, that's for sure.

Yep, you won.

While I respect your football knowledge Jaza, just as I know Mick and a few others here are respected on your forum... I MUST HAVE BEEN AT A DIFFERENT GAME! :vomit:

At half time it was 14 fouls to our 4. How the f**k can there be 14 fouls and no cards?

Now the backs are sorted with Doig suring up our defence and with the mids doing well with Travis and wee mac, all we need to do now is sharpen up the pointy end of the stick.

Now I will be flamed for this, but, Matty is not the solution, sure he is head and shoulders above Disco and big mac(both of whom should be put on very short notice). But we need someone who can put the ball in the net without having to rely on a keeper f**k up, and I dont think Matty can do that consistantly.

No dont get me wrong, I honestly think the bloke is an inspiration, but were are not going to get anyywhere relying Matty alone. We need new talent up front, maybey getting rid of Elrich and Disco would free up some spending money.

Any way, thats just my opinion, Flame away :)

As FFC said we lost that from the front.  Disco was/is now pathetic and Dylan is simply not good enough either.
Danny should have made an attempt at a save on the goal but apart from that made some good saves.
Heff....dodgy defending but good going forward. Inablilty to mark nearly let in 2 more goals.
Boogs....MOM....top showing
Wilko & Doig were OK but should have dealt with the cross that led to the goal
Hutcho...helped out well in defence but showed zero penetration going forward
Bojic......good for 10 mins then overun and dominated....poor showing.
Travis....good in patches
WeeMac......brilliant second half
Mrdja.........complete shite
DMac.........toothless

Kwas would have been better than either striker today.
CCM were OK but lazy at closing down the ball. Middies lacked bit of quality and srikers were just dross.
Marginally better than Bling.

1st half was pish and we were lucky to be within a goal.

2nd half we controlled most of it but they had f**k all to worry about because we created next to f**k all and when we did Mrdja disco'd on the f**kin ball!!!!!!!!!!!

Pymble pit stop on the way home was the best part of the day!

Agree with you Honkee... Matty is awesome but we need someone who can naturally run with the ball, beat his man and most importantly finish. Matty is a goal poacher and would thrive off some like say... Archie or Smeltz, players with technique and an eye for goal, creating chances with Matty picking up the scraps.

MacAllister is an obvious target man, far too similar to Matty and today, didn't hold up the ball well at all. He might get 3 or 4 chances max a game and has to take them. So far this season, he hasnt done so.

Can't believe I almost agree with you.

Bojic was terrible first half, Mrdja was fkn woeful, Boogs and Wee Mac worked their arses off but the team worked hard rather than putting their heads down which was nice to see.  Dmac tried hard but had no support.......credit to Sydney's defence

Agree with most of what's been said.
Including unfortunately Jazza... we were simply lucky not to be down by 3 at half time - Game over.

Boogs did have a good game overall, but was also one of the key culprits in giving cheap turn overs in the first half, as were Heff, Pedj (Bad day at the office for probably our most consistent player this year) and of course our front men. These turn overs hurt us and let Sydneys confidence and rhythm build.

Travis was also not at his best - not bad - but not as good as he has - he looked a little intimidated today compared to usual I thought. I haven't seen him fail to take any players on until todays game. Something our team needs from our players - ESPECIALLY from our strikers - to be willing and able to do when appropriate.
Only McGlinchey and Heff stepped up in this regard today for mine. Kwas looked willing to be fair in the short time he was on. (He should have started imo)

First half our movement on and off the ball was way too slow and predictable, we have to be able to increase the tempo, to absorb teams when they are pressuring hard or you simply won't find space to play - which was the story of our first half.

Sydney came out hard and fast and quite simply bullied us - Breeze working hard to pull his head in at this particular juncture in time didn't exactly help us in this regard - but to be fair Sydneys fouls were smart defensively - niggly and achieved their intent  - without being malicious enough for a booking.

...all that said, with a solid defense and hard working mids, and the exceptional Weemac second half, we were still in that game... BUTTTT... FFC's right - while our distribution was not good enough - we lost this game at the front. Never stretching Blings line or pulling their defenders wide which they did well to us.

Our front third was sadly impotent...
Mrdja and D mac are both big enough that they should not be being physically owned by anyone in the league, let alone Collosimo who has got to be close to 20kg lighter than them... but he and Keller owned Nik and D'Mac today, plain and simple. Which meant that virtually any ball that was not to feet (and even those that were) were immediately heading back down the park. Making our mids do an abrupt about turn - and giving Sydney all that horrible space that they had in the middle of the park (also due to their much better width than us) and putting ourselves straight back under pressure - increasing the workload of our mids - and strangling any conviction to run forward and provide a second wave of attack that they had... until Weemacs stunning second half. He proves that you simply have to be willing to run at your opposition, not just stand around and knock it slowly about between you.

Movement off the ball was tooooooooo slow, as was our passing. Better second half, but still far from outstanding.

All in all, Sydney dominated the first half...
From 45 - 60 mins - it was pretty even...
The from 60 - 90, we had the better of it. But should have copped another on one of their late breaks.  And though Nik should have nicked us a point... On balance I thought Bling overall it has to be said...  :headbutt:
deserved their 3 points.
:ashamed:

For us...
We must find another striker.
Sasho was a loss - and highlights if we can't find a speedster, exactly the kind of striker that we need upfront to provide us with proper balance. When this is in place, our mids will find even more space and come up yet another notch and become very dangerous indeed...

Until then... its mediocrity if the pointy end isn't sharp enough I'm afraid.

Looking forward to seeing God though  :vhappy:
:ashamed:

???

A lot less Mariners supporters than the last time you were down here (3-3 game from memory).

Less in the away support bay... But a lot of yellow splatterings around the game.
On the rugby rolled pitch you guys have, like at Newcastle, its very hard to see the other end form behind goals, so many supporters instead choose the sidelines..

Travis needs someone in front of him to work with. Without it he can not come into the game as he should. Wee mac will create by himself but without that extra threat of Travis and a striker who can hold or turn and shoot then the defence will focus most of their energy into shutting down weemac.

One striker who can shoot and hold is all we need.
