Round 6 Mariners V Heart

First half was close to the best we have ever played IMO... sad there was not a bigger crowd as they would be back...

Tho Griffiths had a massive game tonight and just gets better each week ... Olly & Rose the same...

weeMac & Pedj are improving but not quite a good as down the left at this stage...

Matty R is growing as keeper each match ... he had a very solid match tonight...

Matty S was off his best tonight ... Hutch HMMMMMmmm I honestly thing this squad is outgrowing Hutch and when Perez starts I assume next week Hutch will find himself a bench player ... fighting to stay there as Amini and Porter will also be chasing places... shows how much the team has come on...

Dutchie ... what can you say another getting better each week as he gets to know the squad...

Very happy after tonight just wish a few more had seen it...

Hubby and I and all the kids had a great night last night although the last minutes were much too close for comfort. I was surprised the stands looked so empty though as it wasn't as nasty weather as last week. Does anyone know how many went? We thought Rose, and Zwaanswizk were the best and Matt Ryan looked very confident too. Points also to the great little Ourimbah/Kariong game at half time (but I am a bit biased as one son plays for Kariong in an older age group!)

First time I've ever come away from a win feeling disappointed. We allowed ourselves to fall into the "10-man syndrome" playing "keepings-off". I felt we should have massacred them, but came very close to dropping 2 points instead. If we'd stuck to the first-half game plan we'd have won by four.
Very happy with the win and the first half performance, but it could have been so much better.

I think pedj and wee mac are playing great together down the right considering both are central midfield players and are playing new roles this year.

3 - McBreen
2 - Bojic
1 - Griffiths

Matty Ryan did what was asked of him albeit it wasn't too much. I love the fact he has stepped up after a shaky start to his A-League career. Each week he has grown in confidence. Back-to-back clean sheets with some help by a solid back four and he is looking every bit the veteran.

As for Matty Simon - geezus. He looks like a player low on confidence. Awkward on the ball, poor passing, bad finishing. Whilst I don't think Kwasnik or Mrdja have done enough anything to write home about, I think Arnold will be looking at sitting him down until he finds the confidence he had a couple seasons ago. Nothing is going right for the big fella. Such a shame, has a massive heart and keeps trying.

I tend to agree with Spike on this one!! First half was immense and really looked quite impressive, but once Beauchamp was sent(impressed with Bozza's composure too) we really should have gone on the attack from there on. For me Rose n Boz work great together down the left side BUT, I think Boz must have turned and played the ball backwards 90% of the time from that time on. Was getting very frustrating when he had a mile of room to run at a player, n he has the skill... But turned it round to go all the way back to Matty R.
Can't wait to see Perez on there, hopefully they'll get an attacking mindset in situations like that and really go for the juggular!!

All in all, I'll take the 1-0 win, could've been more, but again we could've dropped points in the end too!!

tend to agree with spike . we seemed to get bogged down and from the look of the players at the post match I would say GA gave them a big serve. However we won and that's what counts.

Our first back-to-back wins at Gosford since Dec 31 2008, Jedi's last game. A statistic like that helps explain why our crowds suck so bad. A struggling team, a key departure, a couple of unpopular management decisions and your home fans don't see form for nearly 2 years. Just goes to show there's never just one thing wrong.

It was not his fault, there was no-one in front of him moving into the right positions to get the ball. Hutch instead of playing the AM role was too deep and didn't give them options going forward. Thats why the play broke down so much cause there was no link to the forwards. We would have been better to let Griffiths have a go at the job once we got to that position cause he played most of the penetrating balls from midfield last night.

In that circumstance with Perez in the side we would have scored 3 or 4 last night and Matty may have shaken off the slump he finds himself in.

On another note re the Beauchamp send off.... Heart coach reckons it was a "soft send off and was mainly due to the reaction"

My question is... what reaction?? If he's talking about Bozza's reaction.. he was all class in that incident.. never played it up and took a dive, just trotted off and let the ref deal with it. Or could it be the crowds reaction?? Does anyone else think that the Ref was always going to give a free kick OUTSIDE the box, after all the ongoings of the past few weeks with the MRP... even though it happened well inside and everyone else seemed to see that. You could see the ref was being spoken to via his ear piece when making the decision where the kick was to be taken too!! Sorta makes you think they are shying away from these hard calls INSIDE the box as they'll always be scruitinzed for it by the MRP!!

Sorry to show my ignorance of the rules. If the ref gave the free kick inside the box would it have been direct (penalty) or indirect as it was an off the ball incident?

Indirect freekick inside the box.
So no penalty either way, but still stupid refereeing decision in the location of the freekick. Harden up!

Ended up going to the game solo. The kids ditched me for the Pokemon movie on Fox and it would have been a cold late night so I didn't force the issue.

It was the best we have played this year until they went down to 10. Ryan although not really tested was immense. I don't remember Danny playing out from the back as much and did anyone else notice our backline run straight to him when we scored the goal. The movement started with him taking on a Melbourne player and providing a killer pass straight down the middle. I still get a bit nervous when he's on the ball or a cross comes in, but he doesn't, which I suppose is the important thing.

I thought Matty was awful tonight. I'm not sure why he played on the left side because he is one of the most one footed players in the league. I looked at the bench after his last awful cross and the message went out for Kwassie to get on straight away. Although we have 4 potential starting strikers there is no pressure for spots there at the moment.

The narrow diamond midfield is starting to take shape. Weemac should watch Matty Mckay a bit more on how to play the position because sometimes he just doesn't seem to want to drop back to receive the ball. When they did get it, his & Pej's link up play was excellent. Pej's crossing went out the window the last 15 min and I thought it would have been a good time to bring on Porter. I thought Bozanic ignored a lot of Rose's runs last night and I'm not sure why especially given the size of our strikers. He always seemed to want to cut in and it was generally into traffic so I hope they sort that out before next week.

Griffiths was brilliant but I want to see him back it up against decent opposition before he can claim that DM spot.

Backline was great again - god I hope they stay injury free.
