Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

The other issue is: Is this likely to happen in the future? My own opinion is yes. If we bent over, said nothing and all drudged ourselves down to Canberra without a whimper, the club would be very keen to stage it again.

But now, at least, they know there's some resistance to making the club gypsies,

They may,
but if the return from Canberra, in terms of juniors coming to the Mariners, through the "special relationship" rather than going to SFC or Melbourne, is seen to be worthwhile, I do not think a few grumblers on this forum will worry them.

Sorry Ursus to continue this debate, but do you REALLY think, in this day and age, that there'd be juniors from Canberra who would think "*sigh* I have to sign with the Mariners even though the clubs I really like are x and y, because the Mariners had this great relationship with the local association I was playing for in the ACT."  (It's only the Belconnen Association I think the Mariners have any relationship with - not the ACT peak body).

And to insist a kid signs with the Mariners when he may have overseas offers, be hailed as the next wonderkid of Football etc.,is a plain restraint of trade if the kid is old enough to sign contracts on his own volition & understand his worth.

You'd only get a grab at a kid's future brilliance if you got the kids up into the NYL team and Academy (when it starts?),  and if they commit to some sort of long term development. To date, the A-League clubs are poaching the local clubs and associations for their NYL team plans, but it is just as likely that a talented youngster could sign for some overseas club or stay with the local State League club instead. It is too early for the A-League clubs to be the place for where kids can be properly developed and made ready for the A-League and beyond.

However, usually a kid will be spotted and brought into a NYL team (like Danning and Gan were for Sydney) and found capable of managing that sort of pressure then his career is off and running. Or they get spotted younger and head off overseas for a traineeship (like Ollie Bozanic)- something which FIFA is getting a lot of pressure to restrict even more.

Surely YOU know how it all works. You've been following Football long enough to know there's a hard edge professionalism in the sport?

Staying loyal or getting first and last refusal is all fine, but the Mariners have not shown they are overly kind with contract offers for even established stars, goodness knows what coin they threw at young Lewis this year for his signature. Bet it wasn't much at all.

Up against the rest of the world the Mariners can't compete for a hot shot youngster. And negates any argument about 'special relationships' with out of town Associations.

IF Canberra do get an A-League franchise, what do you expect to happen to the relationship with Belconnen? I'd expect it to be terminated pretty quickly.

So the tenure of the relationship appears shaky, in endearing ourselves to the Belconnen folks by allowing a move to Canberra we have caused this argument as appears on this forum (and across the further Coast community which must be getting some confused signals about it all), and the excuse about the pitch regeneration doesn't add up to the layman, when you look at the fact there's a home game @ Bluetongue, in between the two moved games.

Kanewillow's comment about playing a game pre season down in the ACT makes more sense than moving actual competition games.

IF we had to move games because of the state of the pitch, the argument about moving a game CLOSER to home seems more logical. Except when you consider that places like Parramatta Stadium might have charged a lot for the privilege.

So for 13 pieces of silver (in the form of a subsidised venue cost and/or some payment to moved the game there?), Lyall and his Board are jeopardising the overall good community relationship they have with the people on the Coast, that has been worked hard on by their team and backroom staff?

Must be the value of 30 pieces of silver after costs and taxes?

Funny enough: I had typed in '30' but thought it must have been 13 being Judas was the 13th disciple (?) or something to do with the number 13 being so bad? ??? :-[ :headbutt:

But yeah, the cost of sending all those lefty 20-somethings (who haven't worked a day in the real world) to Uni over all of these years, must devalue the Canberran dollar, eh? ;) ;D

I'm left handed, 23 years old, and have a HECS debt from a Master of Commerce at Uni. However I have been working my arse off since I was legally able to get a job. I had a part-time job at Coles for 6 years, and not only have held my current accountant postion for 2 years, but earned the quickest promotion from junior to intermediate by - hard work. Not all of us lefty 20-somethings are worthless.

I'm going, and I don't care that it is in Canberra. I will be there to support my TEAM not the ACT or anybody else.

No, No. I am very aware of how hard it is to get through a Uni course & have to pay the bills at the same time (and afterwards with the HECS debt - or whatever it's called now).

But there are some, not many nowadays, but still some, who go through life all in academia and don't understand that some people have to give up dreams of study because their parents can't help, or there's some family issues etc. that prevents them following that. And those that do work, often pick up more wisdom along the way through the practical application of business or whatever trade they do. Often that wisdom is more founded and solid than anything that can be taught from a book.

But then the academia tend to try and superimpose their very 'rare air' 'theory based' view of life upon those who have probably paid taxes since 16 yo, been shovelling shit since that age and try and tell them they know nothing, as the workers have no piece of paper alleging their intelligence. Or, the academia weasel their way into some Commonwealth Grant Research or become an advisor to some Greens Senator &  try to implement Uni/theory based principles into law and wonder why the average folks tell them to f**k off.

I've had to, on more than one occasion, 'puppy walk' some of these snotty nosed shits in jobs I was at, and their attitude towards work - actual work - was diabolical. They were always trying to back stab someone to get a better job, always trying to justify their Bachelor of KnowItAll degree. Anything but answering the f**king phones and serving customers.

You get my drift? ;) ;D [Back on Topic] Canberra's full of them!  :headbutt:

We've had PM before sunshine and didn't I TELL you not to chip me in a pedantic manner, or are you too involved in your studies to remember that? ;)

Now... if you will excuse me young man, I have some business to wrap up today.
