Round 24: CC Mariners vs Fold Coast

Wow.

Just watched the fox sports highlights. Hutch's tackle was perfect. Got the ball clean. Clarkie's wasn't deserving of a yellow. Shafted by the ref again.

Glad to see the boys fire up, overall I was happy with the game.

When will the FFA get their official site working? The stats show no yellows for GCU, whilst we have 3, plus the red.

Hutch's tackle wasn't perfect at all - might have been ball first but he scythes straight through the man. Have seen them given worse than yellow.

Wasn't a penalty either...

Boogs gone next week, no Heff so time to give Sherlock a run at RB and keep Porter in RM. Give Clarkie a rest and let the LB from yoof (massive long name) have a run.

Travis can stay in the kids till he stops sulking.
Keep Porter in midfield, are you shitting me ! Must be his relative, cause he is diabolical.  2 good crosses a game seems to be all he needs to do to keep his spot, he can't even tackle, if this Brown character we've just signed cant show more at training than Porter,  then I think we've just signed another 'grafter' ladies and gentlmen.
Disco was the only one last night who looked to have quality about him.  As a fan, how can we possibly defend that team selection.

In a MUST WIN game, why the F@#k would you not change things up ! Poor Clarky was a spent force with 10 mins to go, yet we don't clear our bench.  NFI.
It's not even frustrating anymore, even the faithful 6k is shrinking and they seem clueless as to how to fix it !
I mean it takes a hard tackle and a melee to stir the team up, why is there no apparent motivation from the start of the game. Granted the 2nd half was the best action for months, but the season has now GONE.

Just because one player is better than another doesn't mean he'll get a run. Look at the 2 midfielders on the bench last night (plus Travis). Both are better players than the 4 that started.

LOL at the Porter hate.

He kept having to come inside to cover the monumental disaster that was our central midfield for 60 mins. Pedj and Hutch were over run

Sherlovk? as in NYL blonde kid? are you kidding? i presume you didnt watch the youth game then, absolute dross fluffed around for GCs first then the only catalyst for their 2nd.

on other things we NEED to give the youth a run that bernie (danning) kid, panni and number 11 ( dont know his name), gave it to them all match, and dared to run the player marking them, moved the ball in small passes made progression, and was good to watch

hardly what you could say about the seniors for 70 minutes, our midfield was owned by one man caravella and his brazilian speedy gonzaleses. i dont care what travis persona is like, weemac and the team need him out there, we have our squad against the top team and our playmakers are on the bench or in the shed? WTF?

on mrdja and kwas, if they get renewed contracts, its a joke, "professional strikers" and they hoof a 30 metre shot 10 above the crossbar or straight into an oncoming wall player.

we should have been schooled by th 70th but not for wee AND D mac moving around abit that things started to happen. see you all in two weeks:D:D:D:D:D

. jerome nice of you to be critical of sherlock (agree about the goals) and porter (generally poor positioning in the whole midfield) ... but you push for travis ... and say you watched the youth game ???

. sorry but i didn't see travis to do anything that would warrant an urgent recall (and i love the guy)

I was very proud of the Mariners last night. GCU with its smug attitude of dont you know who we are were lucky to escape the Mariners late onslaught. Full credit to Van Stratten for his save from McGlinchey. For the Mariners it was an all too familiar tale, we havent been good enough this season, and we wont be in the play-offs; changes  are afoot for next year and well start again with our hopes and dreams. But the Gold Coast flatter to deceive. Despite all their posturing Vukovic didnt have a telling save to make. Where was Shane Smeltz? Did he play? As for Jason whingeing whining NIDA-graduating sideways passing precious little look-at-me princess Cullina what an overrated overpaid little sook. And what was it with the melee? Who do Gold Coast think they are? A hard tackle by Hutchinson which did not hurt his opponent could have easily have been dealt with by the referee but the prima donnas in white think they rule the game. Not that the ref was any good, probably the worst at Bluetongue this year, allowing Van Den Brink to foul almost at will (except for the penalty, thank you Bas for your clumsy ineptitude). Whilst the Mariners have the aggression and spirit but no genuine skill the Gold Coast have the skill but no real bottle for the contest. Melbourne and Sydney have both qualities and will be the grand finalists.

Arab Mariner - agree with you; I'm sick and tired of tackling being banned from the game. Hutcho's would have been deemed a great tackle years ago (and he didn't hurt the other player). We need Hutcho in this mood - tackling right on the edge of the law, firing up the team and the crowd. Love it when ten GCU players try to take him round the throat and he just stands there and says "is that all you've got?"
Meanwhile impostors like Van Den Brink are allowed to shirt pull, push, shove, obstruct and generally do all the girlie things in the name of the beautiful game.

I agree about Hutch (if anybody's interested I could point out what referees get told about these sorts of tackles), don't agree about the penalty though - defender completely missed the ball and got the feet of our player.

Still, we need some physical play on our side, and Hutcho's good at pulling out the occasional hard hit.  If you're going to pick up a YC, there may as well be a point to it :D

f*** me this is a frustrating season though....missed the game, unfortunately (or fortunately, perhaps....)

Listened to first 60 mins on Coast FM (thanks for the tip FFC) and watched last 34mins on the box.
On the radio we sounded terrible with only Mrjda and Doig getting any praise.

What I saw on the telly was pretty bad and we conceeded a loosely defended goal.

Thankfully Disco did brilliantly to con the ref into giving us a very very soft penalty.

Nik takes it well and we finally start to play a bit.

Then LM takes his head out of his arse and puts WeeMan on and we actually start to attack them and pull them apart.

WeeMan showed that if we had put a decent side out there we would have beaten them.

The midfield was shocking and only one of Hutcho or Bojic can play in the middle at the same time or we will get turned over EVERY time.
We need an attacking mid with quality ....either WeeMac or Travis.

Simon looks lost now and needs a spell in Yoof.

I'd be tempted to play WeeMac alongside Disco up front next week.  I'd also bring in Travis or Panni to play alongside Hutch in the centre.

The Ref was a plum.

So which RM from the NYL team would you replace Porter with then?

Brown? He is f**king gash and will be off at the end of his contract. A lazy Elrich without the skill.

Bernie is 2 seasons off HAL, he is only 17.

ps - Danning is a winger

granted he was 90 % useless yesterday, but pair him with a more experienced midfielder, i.e. weemac and things really have happend for us, those two created the 3-0 rout last time from the middle

Disagree on both counts.

See tackles like that every weekend around the world - often applauded.
Sometimes they can be given a free - but usually when they take the man.
No question he goes in hard. But he takes the ball clean with a low foot and barely makes any contact at all with Caravella.

Pen - defender lunges in with both feet, and makes while admittedly not heavy contact - contact none the less in the box. Seen far worse given.

. didn't notice his touch had returned ... a must for a player such as he i would think

. felt sorry for all the kids playing in 4000 degree heat ... but it must have been a right bastard for the likes of travis and jonno brown

I don't get to watch much overseas football, but I don't think I've ever seen a tackle like that in the HAL go without a caution, not that I can remember anyway.  From the side yeah, but not from front on.  There really was no purpose for the left foot coming over the ball - that foot barely got a touch on the ball, which doesn't help his case much.
