At some point the coach must own or be held responsible for structure and performance.

I posted in the TW out thread I watched the backs tonight and our midfield defence.

Some of the errors occurred all night the worst was Micky Neil was constantly a meter and often two meters behind his central defenders this created havoc when balls were played to their right our left as the backs and the mids tacking across and on the back foot .... it created a huge amount of space on our right and we could not close the pathway to their wide runners on our right and we were cut up like tossed salad. It was obvious Ascroft was being torn apart yet we did not offer any support nor close down angles for him.

Josh as a central back in the A-League ... thats just sad I like Josh arguably one of our best ever but his time has come and to play him as a central defender ... words fail me.

In defence Liam Rose seems lost not knowing what to do and Monty a great spoiler but not a play maker.

Either there was no comment by the coach or Micky Neil ignored his instructions but his inability to stay level or in front of his central defender is something you would drop a local club grass roots player...

We had no idea tonight how to defend .. 70 goals and 4 goals per game in the last 3 weeks ...

I can't see decent players wanting to play for us with TW as coach...

Out of left field Harry Red is free after his Jordon contract ... OK he is 70 but two years on the coast living must be better than Pommie land ... and in two years he could create something special I think.

Rather interesting comment. Firstly the first 3 goals came down our right from what i witnessed. Not the middle or the left. Secondly, its the non threatening fullbacks job to determine the line as he is best placed to see the full picture, so mate, they NEED to be in front of him not visa versa. Further the non threatened fullback ensures that the defence does not get caught square. I guess park players may get dtopped for such behaviour but thats why the coach is coaching at park level. I thought, in defence Rose Posc and Neill did ok but quantity of defence will always be telling. This as wombat says Ashcroft marks air most of the time.i i think you will find that Neill was not on the end of a spray rather Rose reacted to the spray coming from Neill. Go watch the reply.
We could not maintain any possession in the middle or the attacking zone and this will almost always result in goals for our opponents.

First 3 goals came down the right side ... spot on we were being torn apart down the right .... my comment we offered no support to Ascroft it was obvious he needed it...

Not sure were you went to coaching university but everything I have been taught is wide full backs don't fall behind their central backs when a line is being held...

The point I was making is our defensive structure can't hold shape ... and the decision to play Josh Rose as one of our CB's I found astounding ... T Uskok is a far better CB than Josh ..

We have the worst defensive record by a country mile of any A-League team ever ... you cannot say the coach has had a bad run we seem to be playing worst at the end of the season ..

As I said on the TW out thread four mates I sit with who travel from Sydney and we found out last night the six people in front were also from Sydney ... they all said if TW is coach next year we are not renewing our membership ... I heard similar comments over in the club.. of the ten people 3 are from season 1, six from season 2, and one from season 3....

I love that if you try to find positives in a negative, negative season that you're somehow labelled an apologist.

We weren't good enough - again - last night, and plenty needs to change. As Dibo said - same as most of the last 26 weeks.

Do you expect us to unload on the club for the sake of it? Do you think the club doesn't already know how awful the season has been? Do you think it's not tough for those responsible?

Bottom line for me is we have a club - people on the Gold Coast and in Townsville for example - they don't.

What's the old cliche? Tough times don't last...

Finding positives is good. A sugar coating can help but sometimes you have to tell the truth to some degree.
The truth is we have played like a state league side and defended worse than most all age 2 sides.
The tough times wont last as long as we are not happy to accept mediocraty.
Anyway lets agree to disagree.
You are a great supporter and the Mariners should be very proud to have such loyal support like you offer.

Rather interesting comments from TW...insight into the coaches lack of freedom to make all of his own choices perhaps?:

Izzo was forced from the field and Adam Pearce came on for his second A-League appearance.
Mariners’ coach Tony Walmsley wasn’t impressed with Izzo’s decision.

“He should never have been out there in the first place so he probably deserves it in some ways,” he said at the post match press conference.
“We defended poorly, he made an error in judgment — he could’ve stayed in goal — he came out and copped a knock on the head.

I couldn't agree more about the truth - we have been woeful and I doubt any fan worth their salt (or sugar coating :vhappy:) would dare deny that.

From what I know of the people at the club I don't think they're happy to accept mediocrity and I think they're hurting after a long painful season - and I think that will drive them going forward. I can't see us doing anything but rising in 2016/17.

We're great supporters of this club - none of us would take the time to join this forum, monitor threads and contribute if we weren't.

the jests score inside a minute...Izzo gets kaboshed at the same time... Gillette then displayed his idoicy for all to see...so me and Mrs Recky pulled the pin at half time and walked home...shit of a year, glad its done

Don't blame you, but 2nd half was marginally better.

I think a drug test might be in ordero_O.
Judging from his mad rush he may have smoked something just before the game:(

It`s hard to be positive after a season like that.
Only a mass importation of players can help & unfortunately I think it`s either Tony to step back to the TD role or if no improvement by game 5-6 next season he`ll have to walk away from the club.
If he takes option 2 then next year may also be stuffed as well.
As I see it:-
Izzo to go
J Rose sadly has seen his last year.
Neil needs more support & coaching but has a lot of potential
Posco keep him but find a permanent position. He may be better suited in a defensive mf role
Ascroft no potential as a rb at all but i`d hang on to him
McGing keep him
Junior keep him but he needs some experience to show him the way.
Monty is a keeper but but needs more help in the midfield
Fabio needs a kick in the arse. Great going forward but drops his head & doesn`t get back
Bingham what happened to him?
Austin ok attacker but he is a soft cock. He can`t take a knock, wont defend & after one foul his head drops & he wants off.
Roy sign him long term urgently!!!

I`d definitely be talking to Mat Simon in the off season.
I`d sign Pearce for next year.
Offer Wilko the Mayors job when he retires with us, we definitely need him.
Stormy is a wait & see proposition
Faty will definitely add some strength but we need another strong cb
Cansdell Sherriff has one more season in him & would be be ideal as as a cover for either CB, he would also come at a cheap rate as he is looking to return to
Australia after a 17 year professional career.

We need a complete shake up & change of attitude.
TW cannot be Mr. nice guy . He needs to toughen the f**k up & do the job he`s paid for.

Bay 16 also needs a revamp. The second half of the season was pretty embarrassing.
I love the band.

For me, it's piss weak for anyone in the prawn sandwich seats or anyone else in the stadium that doesn't sing to slag off Bay 16.
Fair play...that they sung were so shit its unbelievable...it was true!
I like truth.
They are better supporters than the rest of you!!!!!!!!!
You may pay more for your seats......but they are the real fans.

They are what we are judged on by the Foxsports and all the other clubs.

Eggy, PP, etc get my support before Tony and MC.

This is not directed at you SC but im shitty about the softcocks (obviously not you SC!) that snipe from the sidelines but maybe offer a clap clap clap once a year.

I'm not going to sit here and slag off Eggy, Prior - but I certainly don't think they would accept the tag of being better supporters than the rest of us, nor would they consider themselves over-and-above as real fans as you put it.

Quite frankly that's pretty insulting to, well, the majority of the fanbase.

Having started in Bay 16 many years ago at the CWC tournament before bowing to the inevitable and realising my shit eyesight meant I needed to move near the halfway line to see the game I don't consider myself any less of a supporter than those that currently occupying the Bay.

I find fans that sit down all game.....a useful bum on seat but nothing more. They are important to us, but for me do not deserve the right to slag bay 16.

And those who don't slag Bay 16? They don't deserve to be portrayed by anyone as not "real" fans or that active fans are "better than them".

On a related note, people who passionately support their club, regardless of their position in the stadium, can feel frustrated or upset by anyone slagging off the club. Its their right to express that - just as it's Bay 16's right to sing what they sing in the first place.

And I doubt I would ever hear you criticise them. PJ.....you are a great fan.
bay 16 have done a great job in a year where the club have disgraced themselves on the park.
They have sung themselves hoarse while most of us has sat like sad stunned statues.
