Football wise... Too many players don't know their jobs. Notable exception: Matt Sim. He knows his f**king job and did it f**king well. Great game, want to see more.

. this has helped me see how one-eyed i have been in my support ... i know we have lacked cohesion ... and although it is not a suitable excuse it did offer some concessions to the team in my mind

. but that effort from sim shows that i (and many others) have been far too generous with those concessions. to me, he didn't stand out in the kiddies game last week ... but that was an impressive debut - well done matt sim! keep it up

Any one hear a crowd figure?

. nope ... when leaving the ground we were thinking 'did they announce the crowd?'

. it actually seemed like a decent crowd under the circumstances ... but i can't remember ever seeing that many mariners 'supporters' leaving so early

the worst ten minutes of the game.... was the half time break, what the f**k happened in the room, what could possibly have been uttered that the boys came out for the second half shot to shit...that second half was diabolical, I cant even begin to describe the shape we were playing, I think the tactical name was PANIC STATIONS....Fast Eddie and especially Slack Anderson need a bloody hard bollocking....Eddie was fairly crap, But Zac was playing this bad BEFORE Tesco left for Holland, might be time to give Marcel a proper go and sit Slac on the seats for a while..and you would have to think that Reddy needs a break, although there is only so much he can do with that paper thin defence standing in front of him.....the boys up front were giving it a go, cant argue nthat Bernie , Dooks , Monty and even our fearless leader ran their arse off...and much many cudo's to Matt Sim for a dazzling debut...look out Rosey

and that penalty shot was one of the inanely shite in the long history of us not potting dot shots...we went from almost going 2-1 up to a matter of minutes later getting done 4-1....I thought soon as I saw it that Sterj has retired (mentally) already, c

I have never seen so many exits from the stands that early ever...and hope I never again ( but i aint crossing my fingers)

I'm not want to say Moss Out...yet...how about, Sully out, Mossy hires a phenomenal tactician and we work from there...

and a s the Bay 16 Originals were singing last night .....OUR SEASONS OVER !....cant imagine what the Koreans are gonna do to us on Tuesday

The last three seasons we have scored 50+ points finishing in the top two and won two trophies.
One poor season and we get walk outs and talk of not renewing memberships. o_O Mariners till they lose!

Adelaide look like they have a couple of good seasons coming up..get on-board. :naughty: Adelaide till they lose! :redcard:

I am happy to admit we have been punching above our weight the last 3 years...in fact the last 9 years.

And I first came to love the mariners under Lawrie where we didn't play the nicest football... But we played with spirit, passion and vigour!

Then the time came when the a-league surpassed Lawrie...and we moved on to Arnold.

Arnold transformed the way we played football. We played efficiently yet at the same time attractively.
And we had the results coming our way.

I realise that any coach following Arnold has a tough job ahead of them.

That is natural!

But the last 3 games have been woeful.
And the mariners spirit has gone missing!

Our attack is misfiring... Not unusual for the mariners...
But usually our defence has covers us, and now it isn't.
The structure is all wrong, and the tactical style moss seems to be implementing doesn't suit the formation we play.

I can barely afford a membership, I have to go back to uni and study, as well as support my growing family.

If I don't feel that the mariners can match my expectations then I won't renew!
My expectations aren't to win...I think we will have a trophy drought...which can be normal for even the biggest teams
I am a madrid supporter...best club in the history of European football...we had a drought between 2007 and 2011
I support Arsenal...no trophy for 8 years now?
But madrid and arsenal give me what none of their rivals can give me...football I appreciate!
Madrid with their swashbuckling attack...decimating opposing defences at will...
And arsenal Playing their beautiful brand of football in a league where it rarely happens!

So as long as we rebuild, blood some youth and keep our unique team spirit...I will do my very best to be there!

Our sh1tness aside I have to admit Cunningham and Hernandez really work well together for the nix. Was really impressed the way Hernandez can hold/commit multiple defenders and still get a good pass away.

Was happy with us going long the first half and picking up the majority second balls and working an attack from there. I dont think the nux were prepared for it.

Sim as others have said had a good game, a few misunderstandings but played well, worked his arse off and one of the few players looking like he wanted to win at the death.

I knew we would greatly miss Zwaanswijk at the back but didnt think it would come to this. Oh well you have to suffer the bad to appreciate the good times. Im still going to turn up regardless :)

First half was soo much improved on recent games, if only the team had capitalised while on top, there was enough chances to kill the game off so Nix wouldn't have had any confidence in getting back into the game. Into the second half, I have no idea what happened, but I thought to myself after about 30secs of play that it was going to end badly.

Sim played much better than Rose has been recently, but he seems he will be a better winger than full back, as he got caught too high up the pitch a few too many times for me.Bernie, other than the flick and shot and goal was absent, he is a good player who needs to see more of the ball. Also Duke was struggling up top on his own, he is not fast enough to be a lone striker, but he did make some good runs.

I don't understand what is meant to be so great about Bosnar's freekicks either. They are only good if he can get them past the wall and on target, to work the keeper

Great second goal for them though!

C'mon Kareem you're using some of the biggest clubs in europe that dwarf the majority of their oppositions payroll and in turn are up there in the winners circle every season even if they dont win trophies and then comparing them to little old us?

But I still adjust my expectations accordingly.

I explained that madrid and arsenal deliver on certain expectations, and provide what others can't.

And the same applies for the mariners, or at least it used to.
Grit, hard work, determination...spirit!!!

But I think we have been horribly exposed in the past month, and our opponents have showed much much more spirit than us!

And that is disgraceful!

And our tactics are no better...
What's the point of playing dour uninspiring football if we are going to end up getting smashed?

Those two clubs are also massively bankrolled nowadays, Madrid through the Spanish Government and Arsenal via Stan Kroenke, while Mariners are struggling to survive. Plus the main European football leagues cannot be compared to HAL, not for many years until HAL has established itself and most likely not even then.

I have always said if you can afford it and have the time to go to watch the team you support then you should. Remember that the club needs your support (mainly your money) to be able to match your expectations

Edit: Arsenal and Madrid do not have much that much grit, determination and spirit about their teams, they are full of flair players who massively outclass any of their opponents. You use those words to describe a team managed by someone like Sam Allardyce, with players up in the opponents face from start to finish, not playing attractive football

I laughed a little when I read the "I'm not willing to make 3hr round trips to watch that" bit. I've been doing it for 9 years (last night was closer to 4hrs because of the ridiculous traffic on the way up - barely got out of first gear until the Harbour Tunnel, came to a dead stop on each of the ED, Gore Hill, M2, F3...).

I laughed more when I read the "I won't renew if the Mariners don't meet my expectations" bit, citing the club's need to show grit, hard work, determination and spirit.

How about the so-called supporters show a bit of grit or a bit of spirit.

If you're not willing to show up for the club on difficult nights, why should you expect the players to be any different? We expect them to step up and show some pride, but if we've got none then they're just here to do a job and go home.

When we say supporters make the club, we don't just mean that the club should thank us when we sing our arses off in the stands and travel across the country for them. We also mean that the supporters hang tough and stand tall even when the players can't.

There's more to following a football team than sexy football and trophies. If you're looking for a way out of this then you can't claim to be any better than the players and coach you're abandoning.

1) incorrect . Lol, do you believe everything you read and hear?

2) incorrect, haven't you seen arsenal struggle to match other clubs financially. They are actually in the business of cutting costs, and making profits, paying off a stadium.
I am ofcourse grateful that arsenal are much better off then most clubs, and that's due to future planning as well as a bit of luck. Arsenal have turned a profit in the past 8 years I think in terms of player sales...

3) correct...

Your points whether they were correct or incorrect we completely irrelevant, because I feel you have misinterpreted me!

my main concern was the lack of the renowned mariners fighting spirit I'm so used to.
has to be the first thing to come back

Exactly. We're completely giving up in the last 30 mins of games. Not good enough.

I've never left early before but did last night. It was a long week and another 10 minutes of that crap didn't appeal at all.

This!
A small, financially struggling club needs each and every one of us. From the people who attend one or two games a year to the guys who turn up every home game.
We're all in this together and if we don't stick by the club who will?

Doesn't mean we have to accept sub standard performances, we can bitch and moan all we want, but when the going gets tough these colours don't run.

I have this small issue where I can get easily frustrated when people don't read posts properly.
I will try my best to respond In a calm and focused manner!

Please read my post again referencing arsenal and madrid.

I 100% agree that arsenal and madrid are not "gritty" etc.
In fact I believe arsenal to be the least "gritty" team in the EPL and madrid one of the least! And there are times when I wish those 2 would show a bit of the mariners spirit!

The point of my comparison was to highlight that I am ok not winning trophies provided my teams fulfil certain expectations.

Not all arsenal fans and madrid fans would agree with me...but a decent amount do.

So as I carefully pointed in my previous post, my expectations for the mariners are very different.
And that's why I love the mariners as much as I do! In ways I could never feel for madrid or arsenal!

Plus the main European football leagues cannot be compared to HAL, not for many years until HAL has established itself and most likely not even then.

I disagree. I do agree that it would be unfair to compare HAL clubs to larger european clubs in many aspects. However I believe identity should be a key concept that we can compare...

Obviously the longer a club is around the easier it is to have formed a strong identity. Hence 95+ % of professional clubs across the world have had a head start on us!

I would like to think mariners have a strong identity...and that only a few clubs have as strong an identity.
Brisbane and mariners both have achieved this over the last couple of years as well as wanderers.
Sydney have a piss poor identity, that's been horribly exposed by WSW
Victory is alright
Adelaide are coming along nicely (as much as I may dislike their philosophy)
Perth and newcastle have struggled to impose an identity apart from the basic "geographical" aspects.
And of course Melbourne heart are/were the infamous poster boys for a "lack of identity" (which whilst it was harsh, it was quite evident IMO)

Essentially it is my not so humble request for our team to at least maintain its identity during our less successful periods.

And if that makes me seem weak to others than so be it...
