Jedi was on fire as usual.  D'apuzzo played well.  Looked like he was telling Heff what to do a couple of times.

Wilko came off towards the end.  He and one of the Tiger's players had a mishap.  He had ice strapped around is knee, but could walk so I don't think there's any problems there.

Caceres played, looks alright, could have scored a couple of times.  Redmayne was good, not much for him to do though.

Really cold in Asquith!

Redmayne, gun
Ceceres, gun
Mile, cannon

After watching him play the last couple of games for the mariners, I cant understand how Trott even made a teamsheet with Redmayne in the squad. He has everything Trott had + confidence. Ill feel very content with him as a number 2 for us

Ceceres and Mile + gun attacking mid in the same team, forget it everyone else, just give up now, we will own all

The major up side of todays game, nobody played rubbish

D'Apuzzo had a much better game than Budgy. Heff looked underdone but thats understandable. Was nice to watch a solid win. Northern Tigers were no pushovers.

I agree re Heff. It was a useful hit-out and no one was poor. Mile in the first half was on fire. There is still work to be done with only less than 2 weeks to go to PSC.

Northern Tigers lost 2-3 to Lightning last weekend, and are in danger of slipping right out of reach of the top 5 in Super League, which is why Tigers coach Hugh McCrory was fired right up!  Even harder to understand that Fergie!

Convincing Mariners tame the TigersTuesday, 1 July 2008

Mills Park
Central Coast Mariners / Benjamin Coonan Central Coast Mariners

Here is the link

The Central Coast Mariners have produced the most convincing performance of their pre-season trial match program to date to down NSW Super League outfit the Northern Tigers 3-0 at Mills Park tonight a result that will give the yellow and navy much confidence ahead of the 2008 Pre-Season Cup.

Qantas Socceroo Mile Jedinak, season three Mariners Golden Boot winner Sasho Petrovski and exciting local product Brady Smith provided the goals for the Mariners, who were as fluent and clinical as they have been ahead of their fourth Hyundai A-League assault.

Again, it was an experimental starting eleven that took to the field, with triallists Smith and Predrag Bojic lining up from the opening whistle.

Most positively, Dean Heffernan and Matthew Osman, who are each on the comeback trail from long term injuries, contributed more minutes than they have so far this pre-season, while new signing Adrian Caceres made a noteworthy cameo off the bench after commencing pre-season training only yesterday.

Equally as encouraging was the vocal and yellow clad northern Sydney attendance, which numbered approximately 1,000 nearly all of which were wearing the colours of the Mariners and signing the praises of the reigning Hyundai A-League Premiers.

"The boys played well, they carried on from last Friday, they were up for it, they knocked the ball around well and never rushed the play, scored three good goals and could have scored more," said Mariners Football Manager Lawrie McKinna.

"Overall a lot of positives came out of the night, there was a great crowd with a lot of Mariners colours down here, so it was a successful night for the Northern Tigers and the Ku-Ring Gai & District Soccer Association."

The inclusion of Jedinak for the first time this pre-season, fresh from over a month with the Qantas Socceroos, was perhaps the most significant talking point leading into the match and it took only minutes for the class and style of the Mariners season three standout to be evidenced in abundance.

Jedinak was in utter control in the middle of the park spraying pinpoint passes long and short to great effect alongside regular central midfield partner John Hutchinson, who was again reliable and assured in the Mariners engine room.

Jedinak headed home the Mariners opening goal by providing the final touch to Ahmad Elrichs precise centre, before Petrovski netted his second in as many pre-season trial matches closer to the break after latching on to Smiths cross.

Smith himself capped the Mariners most encouraging pre-season showing to date midway through the second stanza when sliding home a low cross from recent signing and Australian youth international David DApuzzo.

Beyond the aforementioned, the Mariners backline of Bradley Porter, Alex Wilkinson, Bojic and Heffernan were seldom tested, but none the less in good touch against an enthusiastic Tigers front line.

Elrich continued his promising pre-season form with another energetic performance on the right wing, while on the left, DApuzzo was exciting and electrifying as Mariners Members and supporters have come to expect.

Caceres contribution towards full time was further cause for celebration, with the former Melbourne Victory attacker providing some neat touches and even a solid shot on goal before the final whistle.

"Were getting serious now, were starting to get more boys at training and Nigel Boogaard and Matt Simon returned from Darwin this evening," said McKinna.

"There will be a few more players participating from next week and we can look forward to Nik Mrdja possibly taking part against Newcastle in Canberra in a week and a half."

solid performace for the mariners, good signs with some younsters, mile was just to good, hutcho was attacking well, would of like to see caceres play for a bit longer but has good potential within the team, ahmad had some good crosses and looks fitter, redmanye looks confident and i am happy with him in goals, wilko was solid  unfortunate clash though, heffernan getting beter a few more weeks under his belt will be good same with osman.

Would be good if they could take the names off the back of ther jerseys or replace them with the new name.

It was a great night. Mile and Hutcho looking particularly good. Tigers came out fighting and put on a great display. Lawrie asked if he could come down the road and have dinner at our place - sadly I was banned from speaking to him, much less offering the Haggis as my family have officially designated me as a "Mariners Jinx." Greg Owens told us all about his hamstring op and my son was thrilled to get some great autographs (including D'Apuzzo in permanent marker on his arm - plastic surgery's not that expensive any more).

Congrats to The Tigers and KDSA for putting this on - it's the most exciting event ever to happen in Asquith.  Any chance of it becoming an annual event ?  Next time it's party at our place.

Realised last night just how much I've missed them - bring on the Pre-Season Cup! :eek:verhead:

Hey, Craig Foster came to Asquith FC a while back  ::) I think he was promoting Sssh Saturday. Somewhat ironic as we often wish he'd just keep his thoughts to himself.

Johnny Warren came to Hornsby once to do a book signing - we were the only people there to meet him. Those were the days...
