Players Season 2012/2013 HAL8

I look at this as similar news to when Panni Nikas left. We had one spot left then and the fans were calling for Pannji to be signed. The managers went for Griffiths. I think they got that right.

But Kwabena has that X factor, raw pace etc.

I think that it's important to have players that offer something different

Look at Fitzgerald...he was our youth team captain...but we wouldn't have played him this season...he had no chance vs our awesome mids...especially in our system of play
I'd rather have Olly and WeeMac

But we don't have anyone like Kwabena!
Just really gutted right now

I think what has basically happened is that we were willing to offer Kwabena a shot in 2013/2014...and WSW were able to offer him 2012/2013...pretty simple

I think that is spot on. Arnie wanted to promote someone and chose Duke (who is older) over Kwabena. A year on and Macca would probably retire and Kwabena would have come in.

I can't begrudge a young player the opportunity though. He has the opportunity now this year closer to home.

The Fibro`s also signed AAron Mooy.
I can just imagine Roy in tears, he loves Mooy.At least he`ll get to see him more often now.. :headbutt:
No tears
The only way we could have signed him is if someone left our squad- I am still hoping Pellegrino fancies playing at Parramatta. It is good for the kid to come back home and play in a proper League.

We probably could have moved someone on to accommodate Kwabena, but with all the yoof players coming through we need a few old heads out there to guide them.

At the end of next season we`ll see a big exodus of the older players.

Roy, does that mean you don`t rate the Scottish League?

Probably, as I can go back to the glory days of Celtic - European Cup Winners - and Rangers with the likes of John Greig, Slim Jim Baxter and Willie Henderson...
and having watched the mayhem of the Old Firm Derby a couple of years back I reckon the SPL is no place to learn football.
That said, St Mirren are supposed to be a footballing side - makes you wonder why Mooy sat on the bench most of the year.

I know you rate Mooy very highly.
I was very impressed with him when I watched him play in Newcastle.
Although he`s signed with the Fibro`s I really hope he does well & moves into a full Socceroo jersey.

Ex-Mariners player Marc Warren is trialing with WSW after being released by Sheffield Utd. I remember him being very raw but a solid LB. Guess there is no room for him with McDonald.

As I've said before - I think Hutch does his best work on the left and should be jostling with Olly for that position and only as an extra cover for DM. As you said - a top class stiker may help Bernie blossom and should be first on the list.

However, given the inconsistency of youth I'd also like some more cover for Alex and Tommy as well. I would be checking out how fit Jason Culina is and offering him a pay as you play type contract. He can play anywhere in the midfield as well as RB and second striker.

I know it is poor form to quote yourself. And many have voiced their opinion on Culina since I raised this but here is a quote from Taurus on the Wanderers forum.

"We had an employee from the Central Coast (broadcaster) sitting just in front of us in the last row of seats.

He had a good knowledge of most of the trialists and mentioned that Culina may end up at the Marinators and added that his family were still living in Newcastle."

As a holding mid he could something special .... someone with the skills to be played too from the back and be able to hold the ball and find players in front... the big question is whether he is fit...

He also needs to rebuild his name for future sponsors and if his family are still in Newcastle we are a logical choice...

Just saying with weeMac on his right, Olly or Hutch on his left and Rojic up from with our wide backs in Rose and Pedj he could be that player we need ... then all we need is a striker... A holding ball playing mid is what cost us last year... as much as we missed Matty ... it was Rostyn we missed more...

Anyone got any idea on when we can smash the glasses after drinking vodka ... or is it only the orange juice we have ...

Oh dear me. Someone needs to let him know he's trialling for the wrong active supporters.
They're now called Coastie Boys I believe Jason.

Also might be a good idea to inform him he'll actually have to stand for the whole game.
He does usually like a bit of a lie down during the game. I foresee this could be problem.

???

I'd take Culina. Yes he is a prat but still a good footballer. Would slot into DM perfectly in our midfield.

Agreed and with Clarky and Arnie running things we potentially could make the most of his skills. Arnie has worked with him before, so will know if a good idea or not. in Arnie we trust. Comes down to $ once again as well...c'mon ruskies!

I'd take him as a squad player - he can play almost anywhere in midfield - and as he has to prove fitness he shouldn't cost much (if he is cheap than it would be difficult to say no to him) but the quote says he is joining the Marinators so maybe he is just buying a family membership and will be wearing his yellow like the rest of us?

The quote was from a Wanderers supporter recounting a conversation with a Central Coast based broadcaster. I suspect that the the Marinators part was from the Wanderers supporter.,

Does anyone think he would put bums on seats? It would be nice to have someone with a slightly higher profile than the rest of our squad plus I think he still has something to offer on the field as well.
