Interesting to see Lawrie talking up Caceres on the other thread as an attacking midfielder to push Rogic. He obviously sees him as both a deep playmaker and further up the field.

So it look likes options at DM are Caceres, Hutch and Olly and at AM it's Tommy, Caceres and Macca.

I was at pluim when Rogic played his first game for mariners. It was for the youth team against hearts.I also remember lots of first graders playing that game (pelle, gallagher, kwas, musialik). This meant that the usual starters for the youth like appia, caceres, etc, were benched.I think the first half finished 1 all with rogic not performing as expected.Second half, caceres replaces rogic in AM and the game finished 3 or 4 - 1.I remember caceres's impact in the second half.He was involved in creating all mariner's goals. It doesn't surprise me that the kid could be considered as an option for AM.When mariners played marconi in a friendly, peolple that knew caceres were surprised to see him in DM.They kept saying:"He always played AM while at marconi".Laurie and GA might think that it isn't worth spending on bringing someone from outside for AM when options at home are as good or even better.Lets blood our youth.

Just read Reece Caira has been released by Villa - local boy - would be interesting to have a look at him - although heard Western Sydney are interested

Yeah had read about his release. Know the family. Love to see Reece here, but he's an LB and I think with our squad having Rose and McDonald on contract and what one or two spots left, short of coin and focusing on a striker, this would not likely be on our radar.

I think WS would be a much better option, he needs to be starting as god knows we need a true LB for the NT in the coming years. I do not share anyone else's faith in the newly converted Zullo. And don't mention Carney. Whenever we play an international against a fast RW we get murdered.

His family sold their home in Lisarow and moved to UK to support his attempt to become a pro footballer in the UK - given the deterioration of the exchange rate of the pound against the dollar they would lose a fortune if they came back at this time.
That said, having failed at Villa, it will be difficult to find a club of similar stature, he'll end up in the lower divisions if he is lucky.

From what my good mate said who is his relative it wasn't a performance thing it was more about Reece not being happy in England ....WS sign him up and play him into the NT thanks ;)

More signings are expected to be publicly announced in the subsequent days, with Mark Bridge, Shannon Cole, Labinot Haliti, Michael Beauchamp and Kwabena Appiah-Kubi all having agreed terms.

Looks like Kwabena is off to WS.

I came on here straight away to see if anyone knew anything...

This is terrible news!

He is potentially a very good player and I enjoyed watching his efforts last season however he is still a season or so shy of the top grade.(other than cameos)
As for Fitzgerald(and Mallia) he was a couple of seasons in our youth and ran into a positional road block.

I look at this as similar news to when Panni Nikas left. We had one spot left then and the fans were calling for Pannji to be signed. The managers went for Griffiths. I think they got that right.

We have one spot left and Arnie wants an experienced overseas striker. That is not Kwabena!!

There is only a limited number of youth that can be moulded into a senior squad. As it is we will have Ryan, McDonald, Anderson, Sainsbury, Oates, Caceres, Rogic, Bernie and Duke who could all be playing NYL,in the main squad.

We won't sign everyone from the NYL team. Panni went to Fury, Fitzgerald to Roar, Mallia and Sherlock to SFC and now Kwabena to WSW.

The main thing is to keep the contacts in western Sydney that we have been using. Some kids will choose WSW - but there are only a limited number of NYL spots up for grabs. We just have to remain an attractive option and compete for the best.

It just shows that WS will make it just that little bit harder for us to attract the best youth players - given the choice there will be plenty who won't want to hit the F3 every day. The next generation Ryan, Amini, Ibini will be harder to find.

Too true.

Maybe this'll open another spot to recruit a quality DM for the base of the diamond?

I see the competition for yoof among the 4 nsw sides as very positive for the game. More kids will continue to play as there is a larger pathway and with them will come plenty of gems.
The future looks good.
