Sydnus are up to their old tricks it seems attempting to do all their recruitment from an hour up the road *grin*

Always tho it would take a lot to get TR away from GA... consider their midfield with Nicky Carle as number 10, Emo on the right, Terry Antanoise ..... will take a heap of money IMO to get him away... but more reason to hate Shitty...

We have to give our youth players game time. They're quality and most probably better than many players mentioned as " the could be DM,AM,STRIKERS".Only by playing at the highest level they will gain experience and confidence. I have a lot of faith in Birnie,Caceres,Rogic but we must learn to be patient with them. They must be given the opportunity and support to show why they were offered HAL contracts. Can't judge players by 1 or 2 games.Let them play as much as Sutton did and then we can judge wether they're good enough or not.Why spend the money that we don't have on players that are on the rebound(Culina, etc)when the upcoming ones in the club are better players?

I'm quite happy to be patient with Caceres and Tommy, but Bernie has played 34 HAL games. To my mind he is an impact player against tiring defences - nothing more and certainly not the clinical striker we need to go to the next level.

I'm looking forward to seeing Caceres play and to see Tommy after a full pre-season(if indeed he is still with us). As for Bernie, if he wants to play for the full 90 he needs to show it.

bernie was the guy in my mind most affected by the loss of matt simon.
he might have played 34 games but he's still a boy .he'll be better next season and even better
the season after next.he's likely to be 4kg's heavier and 3cm taller in the next 12 months.
bernie will star next season ,,,,,,, just quietly

We still need a number 10, a la Perez or Musti.

Isn't that what Rogic is supposed to be?

I'd love us to sign a Perez or Nicky Carle but I suspect Arnie thinks Tommy can do the job. Clearly he has a lot of talent but he is still very raw for such a pivotal role.

It might take him 24 months to fully mature into the role but which time we will probably lose him overseas.

That only confirms that we need another striker for him to partner.

I think you are on the money TB.

Arnie spent a shed load of time with Bernie getting him ready for HAL and we reaped the rewards.

We then sold Simon and that hurt Bernie in two ways. Firstly he lost his minder and secondly he lost his provider as Simon set up lots of goals as well as scoring them.

Then Arnie stopped starting him and Musti ( to protect them presumably) and his confidence dropped. Like all players, confidence is the key.

Bernie will get you 10 goals a season alongside a proper striker.

Agree with what's being said about Bernie. I think what also hurt his season was Kwas's form. Both in keeping him out and also not suiting him when partnered with him. Arnie obviously thought this and was why Bernie had so little game time while Sutton the plodder was being started in front of him. More a case of competing for one spot against Kwas and losing the battle I think. But a bit more time and hard work and I think he'll likely win the war though.

On our strikers s a whole, personally I like having two fast sharp strikers that will stretch the line and create space upfront as opposed to the strong hold up play when you have a midfield like ours behind you. However we put in a lot of crosses, and that's a big consideration. This is also the other issue with Bernie's that I think saw him lose out on selection v Sutton this year, as heading is probably the weakest element of Bernie's game at this point.

Torres wants out at Chelsea .... just maybe at 28 he would suit...

But would he fit into our no dickheads policy? ;)

Maybe we could look past it and sign Drogba?

We will not be together next season," Drogba told France Football magazine.

"As I have decided to leave, I wanted to tell them (my teammates) straight to their faces.

"Except that I could not do it. They made me break down.

"Even though it's been three years since I said I wanted to leave, I found it hard to admit that it was finished with me and the club.

"But I don't envisage sitting on the bench watching others play at a time when the club is looking at putting together a new team.

"So there we go, I am readying myself for a great leap into the unknown. It will be another adventure."

I agree with this. Problem is we have another 2 in Duke & Kwas and an all sorts in McBreen.
I think you will find Duke being moulded into a new Matt Simon. He carries himself a bit more aggressively than Bernie and is more resiliant to aggressive defenders.

On Bernie, I would say some of his form dip can be put down to the monstering he got on 2 occasions from Toppor-Stanley,he seemed to go into his shell on both nights and was replaced. The first time Arnie swapped positions(side of the field) with Simon to nullify T-S.

. what about richard porta ... how is he going these days?

. i can now answer my own question:

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/football/portas-vintage-form-overlooked-for-socceroos-cup-qualifiers-20120521-1z197.html

. from that article i'd say we are no chance unless he really, really wants to impress holger to push for a world cup spot (assuming we qualify, blah, blah, blah)
