I wouldn't mind James mcFadden or Owen Hargreaves. Reasonably priced but I guess we are looking for free transfers. Michael Owen is well overpriced especially as Fergie got him on a free.

Matthew Lund the u21 N. I. international is probably more our mark at 50k.

Great news, Rogic and Dutchy!

THE race to sign Tomas Rogic is over after the young gun agreed yesterday to stay on at the Central Coast Mariners.

In a huge boost for the Mariners, the off-contract teenager was being chased relentlessly by several clubs, including A-League rivals Newcastle and Sydney FC.

Rogic, 18, is one of the hottest properties in Australia after he burst on to the scene during the A-League season and the Central Coast’s Asian Champions League campaign.

With fellow attacking midfielder Mustafa Amini leaving, the Mariners were extremely keen to keep Rogic. He has a great relationship with Mariners coach Graham Arnold and loves the coast.

The Jets and Sydney offered the youngster big money to leave.

But he has decided to continue his development under Arnold.

“This is a fantastic coup for the club,” Arnold said. “We are extremely happy given the offers he had from rival A-League clubs.

“He is one of the brightest prospects in Australian football.”

While Amini was away on national duty, Rogic was brought into the Mariners squad as a relative unknown but wasted no time making his mark.

A gifted midfielder with an eye for goal, Rogic created headlines with a string of polished performances.

In a further boost for the club veteran defender Patrick Zwaanswijk, 37, has also signed on for another season. Despite being one of the oldest players in the competition the central defender was great this year, notching seven goals and combining well at the back with captain Alex Wilkinson. “He has proven in his two seasons in Australia so far that he is one of the best foreign players ever to play in this country,” Arnold said.

It is unprecedented in the a-league to have basically the same first choice back 4, same left side combo and right side combo for a 3rd season!

when we can sign a good strike partner for ibini he is gunna get a hell of a lot of chances to get the golden boot!

which brings me to my next point... i dont think we will sign any more first choice players for midfield, AM or DM.

For all the talk of hutch being too slow with distribution and rogic being more of a striker than an AM the fact is we create far more than enough chances with our excellent wing play to take the pressure off the centre and we all seem to agree that defensively hutch was great... SO

sign a striker in the Barisha/Smeltz/J Griffith/henique/tompson/simon level who will score 10+ and were done!

Patricks comments make me believe he has been offered some role within the club after this year and this also pleases me!

Awesome stuff! Is a testament to the club that the squad is nearly finalised this early. Tommy R could be anything next year so very excited to see how he progresses. I think we are a top 4 side as it stands now,and the next signing or 2 will be critical to whether or not we can take out the big one next season.

... dont get me wrong, i would totally welcome a high quality DM or AM though! :innocent:

As I've said before - I think Hutch does his best work on the left and should be jostling with Olly for that position and only as an extra cover for DM. As you said - a top class stiker may help Bernie blossom and should be first on the list.

However, given the inconsistency of youth I'd also like some more cover for Alex and Tommy as well. I would be checking out how fit Jason Culina is and offering him a pay as you play type contract. He can play anywhere in the midfield as well as RB and second striker.

im into Culina if Arnold can teach him how to stay on his feet... on the flip side maybe he can show hutch a few new tricks to go with his turnaround fall down!

how fun would games against the jets be with a fit and firing Culina in our side! :piralaugh:

Fantastic news about Rojic, and brilliant to see our back four confirmed:

It's hard to know how we'll recruit, striker and DM being key in my mind. Arnie will have thoughts I'm sure as to developing certain players for certain roles over the pre-season, maybe Hutch for DM, though I agree he's best out left wing.
I'd like to see good recruitment for both roles, and maybe some depth for our full backs is required, we've tended to suffer when either are off.
I doubt he'll recruit for depth in AM with McBreen ready and willing, looking forward to seeing Rogic battle fit and sharp after pre-season too. Exciting times ahead!
