Player movements 2013/2014

I remember reading somewhere Big Sam said they'll only make 1 or 2 more signings, just before they signed Downing... signs pointing to Dukey coming home; I hope.

As to the selling of players, FFC summed up the reality. Fortunately we have a decent attack even if we lose Duke. Lose Duke and Macca, means Kwas and Mile are stepping up I guess in back up to Matty, in what would presumably be a 4321. And you'd expect we'd buy another striker to bolster the ranks.

But if Duke does go, he knows that he needs to be playing to see the WC. Sign and loan back would be great for us and him. But not sure Hammers would go for it.
EPL clubs seem to always be loaning to other English clubs mostly don't they? Or do I only just seem to hear of the English loans?

Well if Sam is telling the truth then Dukey is not going anywhere.

Sam Allardyce has ruled out the possibility of West Ham United signing back-up for Andy Carroll before the summer transfer window closes.

The Hammers have been linked with a sensational swoop for former striker Demba Ba after the Senegal international struggled to make an impact at
Chelsea following his January move.

Carroll is already a fitness concern for the imminent
Premier League campaign as the England international continues to recover from a heel injury which he suffered on the final day of last season.

But Allardyce insists he has spent his transfer budget, and as a result, the Hammers boss won’t be bolstering his attacking options.

“No, my budget is finished now,” Allardyce told a news conference on Thursday.

But not just yet. I think he will benefit from a full season firing in goals for us rather than playing for the Hammers 3rd team. We really are not prepared to lose him either, with Danny also at best won't be much use till 10 games or so into the season. He will need a rest, and that is if he even comes back. We would cope with Kwas,Sterj and Matty but would be much less dangerous IMO.

He has to go eventually but he'll be a far better player knowing that he can spend at least one more season doing his apprenticeship under Arnie. Regular game time, the focus of a competitive team and one of the stars of the A-League will do wonders for his development. Regular game time in the spot light will also improve his WC chances.

Big difference between Demba Ba & Duke as far as money goes. I think you will find his money for transfers has been used.

However they are always after young cheap talent that they can either bring on to perform for them or sell at a nice profit.

IMO Duke is there for a trial in the sense if they see what they like it might be worth the million of so dollars probably even less to secure is rights & is probably not in the same league yet to be a back up striker in PL. I think you will find Duke money would come from the junior development type funds not the 1st team transfer funds.

Duke is still very roar & needs a full season as the man at CCM to see how he goes leading the attack versus being our Archie Thompson for the national team.

That said I don't mind if West Ham own him while he leads our attack (probably unlikely).

Aren't hammers renowned for having one of the best academies. So if they do see something they like they would be a good club for him.

Interestingly we haven't lost the most players - that's victory & SFC

The roar, Wellington & Glory have lost similar numbers as well.

It's probably more the quality that we lost & have potential to loose another 3 (Duke, McBreen & Sainsbury)

interesting how few Victory have signed, 10 out but only 2 in , leaving it a bit late me thinks

If they can replicate their performance against Liverpool I think they will be hard to beat this season, signings or not. Last year it was basically CCM and WSW and forget the rest. I predict a lot tighter comp this season.

Doubt Sainsbury will leave before season's start. Maybe midseason. I'm also hopeful re: Duke staying for another season before the bigger clubs come calling.

Hopefully the World Cup lure for Sainsbury and Duke and certain week to week 1st team football will make then think twice before jumping ship and accepting all the associated risks.

I am hoping Duke comes back with an extra lift in performance the way Bernie did after a week at Club Brugge

Definitely, after Bernie came back he went to a whole 'nother level. Like you said, hopefully Dukey will do the same. Certainly wouldn't mind seeing him score some goals.
