Player movements 2013/2014

I have to say I was probably as frustrated as everybody else with Mile last season but after reading a number of the interviews with the players in which they all spoke about how Mile's mentoring had been a big factor last season I hope we retain him for this season with all of the changes, I think his experience could be vital.

Also with Pat retiring you don't want to loose both together - A year apart would be nicer at a minimum.

Really, really hope the Flores deal comes off. Almost the final piece of the jigsaw for me along with Wilko (fingers crossed). The rest of the squad can be taken up with promising kids, we have enough experience in team.

You've got to keep some of the old heads to keep the culture alive. Mile is good enough to play anyway - his last 6 weeks of the season you could see the experience counting in big games.

Pelle - well, he's going to be cheap, and it seems from what we saw in The Code that he's a pretty key part of the culture at the training ground, so that's maybe reason enough to keep him on a cheap deal and keep the kids grounded.

Where has this Wilko rumour come from? Is there any substance to it or is it just us wanting him back so badly that we're talking it into reality? Does that even work?

Daisuke Matsui scored on the weekend in a J-League allstars match, which reminds me;

Is he still on the cards now he can go on a free (think that was the situation)? or did that deal fully fall through?

lets get a couple things straight .if perez was physically fit .he'd be playing for Barcelona,
he isn't . thats why he played for the marinas . he didn't play in the loss in brisbane .
otherwise i may of had two hats .
flores is what we need . ok folks

I'm unsure that Wilko is a forward step, although his last season with us was his best since season 1.
I'd love Flores but thought he was shit last year....so are we getting the Adelaide Rolls or the Victory Camry?
Perez is welcome back anytime as far as I'm concerned.
Mile had a very average year but played good in 3 or 4 games and really showed his quality and experience in the GF. I'd give him another year on a reduced contract.
Pelle is a good bloke but a mug Footballer.
I also think Kwas will be very lucky to get another year.
Just my thoughts....

Can't agree Dibo....it would simply be a waste of a squad position. Keep him around the club for sure but don't make an up and coming Footballer miss out because he is a good laugh at a team BBQ

From reading between the lines it seems to me that Charlesworth while still supporting the business model of bringing through youth also wants to attract more people through the gate. Therefore the talk of Flores and the like will be something we will see more of.

I suspect that we will have the strongest Mariners squad to date and there is no reason we will not challenge for both pieces of silverware again and be as or more competitive in the ACL .

I remember when we signed Perez, Arnie said he will use Perez to develop and train Musty ... wonders aloud if Caceres could be in need of some development ...

Imagine Perez and Flores in the same team ... with Macca, Matty & Duke in front... weeMac and Fitzy out wide ... Caceres /Hutch / Nick as the DM's... Trent behind hard to determine the best starting squad.. Perez could be a great impact player ...

Backs ... RB HHHHMMmmm not sure ... CB Anderson & Trent ... LB Rose

Def mids ... Caceres & Nick .... sub Hutch [hides and runs away for putting Hutch on the bench]

LM.. Fittzy CM Flores ... RM weeMac .... sub Perez

Strike Duke ... subs Maty S & Macca

Perez back to Aus? You guys are...:santa:

He had no reason to leave except for the one reason he left which hasn't changed. I loved him. But CCM would have to be bonkers to sign him again.

Perez is a better player, but Flores is a better fit. He's proven in the league and he's clearly able to settle. As to Wombat's question, under Arnie, Clarkey and Mossy, we'll get the quality Flores. Maybe even his best to date. Even in his worst season he still scored four and made a couple of assists. Which is a lot more contribution than we've had from plenty of players over the years.

Ange played him out of position. False nine is simply not the way he plays or "works" as a footballer. I think Arnie has already shown through his change of system that he is a lot more flexible and likely more multi dimensional than Ange as a coach. And he understood Perez to a tee. (There's a reason why creative players are prospering under Arnie)

I remember early on when Perez came I watched several training sessions, and the players simply weren't finding Perez. They didn't get it. He would ghost. Deliberatley. And without him blatantly making a run or shouting for the ball they just didn't see him. They weren't used to looking. So Arnie put him in different coloured socks and told them to find him... The rest woulda shoulda been history. Instead MRP + homesickness = our history. Pity. It was bloody exciting those early games with him on the field.

. i thought that the excuse with wee-pat was that his wife was the one that was homesick o_O ... has anybody checked his facebook status - maybe that is no longer the problem and he wants to come back to the coast looking for love :p

. of course without big-pat in the side communication could be an even bigger problem than before ... unless he has spent the last two years taking english lessons. signing flores may help wee-pat feel more at home ... but that kinda defeats the purpose :piralaugh:

. unless of course arnie's 'african plan' was just an elaborate ruse ... so as not to reveal our argentinian future :headbounce:

Maybe there was more behind Arnies sly 6 foreigner comment than meets the eye?

Matsui
Flores
McGlinchey
Perez
Montgomery
Fast attack minded African RB

;)

How long until Weemac gets his Aussie status? Before squad registration cutoff for the ACL?
