I'm unsure that Wilko is a forward step, although his last season with us was his best since season 1.
I'd love Flores but thought he was shit last year....so are we getting the Adelaide Rolls or the Victory Camry?
Perez is welcome back anytime as far as I'm concerned.
Mile had a very average year but played good in 3 or 4 games and really showed his quality and experience in the GF. I'd give him another year on a reduced contract.
Pelle is a good bloke but a mug Footballer.
I also think Kwas will be very lucky to get another year.
Just my thoughts....

I think Kwas already has another year. Whatever, I still think he can be useful. As I have said before he has the ability to be in the right place at the right time around the goal mouth. Last year too many chances went begging.
He can also play cover as a winger.

I was also impressed with Mile and think he too can be useful, playing up front rather than on the wing, he also showed he has the ability to find the back of the net. Definitely another year.

With McBreen not having an off season and Matty's injury problems unknown all it could take is an injury to Duke and our striking stocks could be thin.

With a new RB (as well as Morton) and a new AM we could be fielding a stronger squad than last year.

Maybe there was more behind Arnies sly 6 foreigner comment than meets the eye?

Matsui
Flores
McGlinchey
Perez
Montgomery
Fast attack minded African RB

;)

How long until Weemac gets his Aussie status? Before squad registration cutoff for the ACL?

Sounds beautiful, but as much as Charlseworth is sure to pour into the club, I doubt we'd be able to fit all those lads under the cap.

Totally agree with this, especially re: strikers. Unless we can find another lad or two, hang onto Mile. Letting Pellers go is fair enough, we have better stock at that position already anyway, but Mile could be the #2 in the pecking order if Matty is still injured and Danny is still abroad (or worst, gets injured). Hanging onto Kwassy for the same reason, plus I got a real soft spot for the cheeky bugger, as you said has the ability to get into the right spot can, despite all the goals, there were multiple moments last year that me screaming "how did that not go in."

As for Morton, word is he is gonna get the starting gig. Plus if we find a player who can play CB they can be cover for Zac and Trent, or be able to push Trent out on the wing. In any case, we a bit thin at the back too. Flores as a marquee to put our attack into next gear would be good, but lets not forget we still need another two or three players to replace those we've lost. Letting Mile and Kwassy go could be taking too many players away and we'd be starting with a whole new bunch of lads.

Perez (Argentina) left because his wife was homesick.
At that stage JC was the only one we had that spoke Spanish.
We now have Caceres (Uruguay) & if we get Flores (Argentina ) that builds up the Spanish speaking contingent, which would lesson the effect of homesickness.
Not so silly really....

Just got this months 442 mag and they have top 10 possible marquee we are said to be the best match for shunsuke Nakamura and yasuhito Endo how good would that be others include (though not to us) totti reyes trezeguet riquelme drogba (if only) recoba. I would love a asian marquee (or in the salary) personally. And id rather Endo what a great player.

Well, flame away, but personally, I'd take Smeltz in a hearbeat if his wage bill worked within our squads needs. I understand, we (maybe) don't "need" another striker.
But Clarkey fit + most clinical striker in the league + the service the Mariners give to strikers equals massive massive potential. The difference in how many games last year,
ESPECIALLY our ACL campaign, was our ability to be more clinical in the final third? And who has largely been regraded as the most clinical striker in the HAL? Sounds like a pretty savvy signing to me.

Also I really don't think it's quite as off point as it might seem at first glance. Danny is away and won't be in our pre season development, and will have to work his way back in once he gets back. Matty has had a pretty torrid year injury wise and may well need some time to get back into top gear/form (He can actually play wide too. In fact I know people who think he's best there.) So as we move down our striker stocks, Smeltz would be a pretty significant striking upgrade on Mile or Kwas I think/hope most would agree on. (Both of whom though can play wide too though - providing cover for Fitzy and Weemac or a striker if required - perfect squaddies)

If Matty is raging and he's good to go and Arnie is set on playing 4231 again, yeah ok, with Kwas and Mile as cover till Danny get's back, he's likely not needed. But if Matty does need a little time, and we want to consider playing a 422, 0r a 433, Smeltz could be quite a critical signing. And arguably, he would be a great signing regardless of any of these considerations.

Arnie will play those whoever is best. We don't usually even fill our full squad. So not a lot to lose or fear in signing a very high quality striker, as if there ever was... and bottom line, a wealth of great striking options is just about the best possible problem a club can have. And one the world over, they all aspire too.

Only if others are leaving the Mariners. Sterjovski, Kwasnik, Simon, Duke and McBreen is an awful lot of strikers, esp. if it is true that Kwas has signed an extension...

Smeltz Yeah if a multi year deal - 2 minimum (covers loss of McBreen, Duke, Mile over that 2 year time frame) - Although has he passed his prime? Was killing it around last world cup but hasn't been the same since. But the amount of chances we waste someone of his quality would have a field day even not at his best

Duke - Will be one of 2 mariners sold in January IMO - He is on Holger's Radar & shorly Asia if not already at a minimum - Part of being a breeder is you must sell your pups.

ACL should be the mariners main aim under Charlesworth -Not for the recognition of playing so well but that is where CCM will get the best price for there players - There fore it's worth the expense to pay for better players in the A League like Flores & Smeltz to get & keep you there so you can sell your Ibini's to Asia.

Mightn't be as bad as a year as you might think after loosing so many players.

Would Reddy be No1 or back up or fight for the job over the break?
