Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I don't know if the Wilko stories have any basis in fact or just our wishful thinking, I also reckon Lucas in unlikely TBH.

Monty came out of the blue, maybe that sort of signing will happen again?

Agree that we need a creative no 10

If Lucas wants to play in the World Cup he will probably have to sign with wsw or ccm, with ACL bonus games at the end of the season getting him close to June. Not a lot of European teams will be interested in him and the timing will be out with most Asian leagues. Can see FFA paying for him to play at wsw. If he comes here t-stain plays right back which in the longer term will be his best position

. there are so many things to be managed in putting our squad together and keeping our team competitive ... certain realities have a big impact

. for me the main recruitment considerations are an attacking midfielder and some extra bodies in defence - this is all assuming arnie doesn't change his style of play again ... i wouldn't put it past him and changes may occur to best exploit the available talent

. if the reports of danny being 'borrowed' are true it may actually make things a bit easier to manage. we have essentially been playing with one striker yet we have six listed in the squad: a young gun recently training with the socceroos, a returning favourite who has also played for the 'roos, an experienced veteran with many national team caps, a flawed genius (kwas for those that missed it ;)), last year's golden boot and fitzy is listed as a 'forward' by the club. so how does that work? more than likely with danny as attacking mid

. i agree that danny is 'capable' in this role (and would prefer wee-mikey to remain out wide) but he will never be a perez/amini/rogic player ... this is what 'feels' missing and if danny is 'borrowed' it may enable this to something 'special' to happen

. at the back it is equally tricky - based on the way we play morton is the obvious choice at rb ... but everybody else is a compromise (playing a centre out wide) - maybe this works as cover, but it is a placing a big expectation on hayden and we could be caught out

. the centre is interesting - with trent still here the cb pairing picks itself with brent as cover. the talk/suggestions of wilko and lucas are worth exploring ... but i would not like to see trent or wilko playing on the right (unless there is a change in philosophy)

. if lucas was to come in, it would be with the expectation of always playing which would likely relegate zac back to the bench ... which may not be good for the player or the club. until trent leaves (which could be before the end of the season) then brent becomes understudy until lucas leaves and the cycle continues

. similarly, if wilko comes in. but i have heard he has been injured so may start behind trent and zac ... which could work very well if trent is our annual january departure :(. i would see wilko as a longer term anchor than lucas - someone to build around ... and considering our 'competition' in the defensive midfield role (hutch/monty/olly and caceres) it can't hurt to have somebody else capable of wearing the armband
I doubt that lucas would sign with us at the moment given the current situation he's in @ the moment especially after the 1-1 draw with Japan & the 2 upcomming must win games against Jordan & Iraq (which I'm going to) looking for a club especially ccm should be the last thing on his mind right now

That's the nature of professional sport I suppose... there is seldom an ideal time to look around for a new club or a new deal. Hopefully his manager is on the case for him, doing all the leg work so all Lucas has to do is concentrate on the upcoming games.

I agree with tsd... the opportunity of playing in the ACL next year may add a little bit of incentive to sign with us or wsw.

We have 18 signed players and if Wilko is signed it;s 19.... my understanding on Wilko and this is from a guy that works near me, he says he knows Wilko and Wilko told him he wants to come back but has some kind of injury which is being looked at ... if he can recover from his injury he will be back if not he obviously will not be signed.. Do I believe the guy HHHHMMMMM he has no reason to lie to me, just a guy who works in a shop near me... However he could be that kinda of person who wants to big note himself ..

So we have either 4 or 5 spots left .... with hopefully Arnie staying ... will be interesting to see who comes ... maybe another Dutchie as Arnie has some good connections in Holland...

A god thing for Danny at this stage to be able to male a little more cash I think. Hopefully not having a rest/off season won't hinder him.
Recovery is important, but when you get older stopping and getting out of rhythm can be bad for you too. Mental fatigue maybe... But a change of scenery, some good noodles, odd slide tackle on Drogba, should be a decent tonic :pirashoot:

Duke, Simon and Kwas leaves our striker stocks in decent standing till round 4. But another quality attacker pref for the number 10, becomes even more important if Danny is gone till round four imo.

I doubt they will allow McBreen to fly over to Turkey just to slide tackle Drogba... :p

Nor would Drogba's management be keen to entertain that :naughty:

Not a bad idea - probably not in great demand, probably suits us better than he ever did MVFC under Ange (can play the 'Rogic' role rather than being shoehorned into a false 9 role behind two wiiiiiiiiide strikers in a counterattacking side), has plenty of technical ability *and* is familiar with the league and our style of play.

Flores is a decent player, but honestly, he just doesn't seem like a fit for us. And I'm not talking the NDHP, it's just the mentaility. I actually hope we just promote caceres and sign someone else young and promising from somewhere in Oz, ala Musti, ala Tommy, ala Bernie, ala whoever's next...
