Tom Rogic not returning to Mariners, confirms Moss
Central Coast Mariners coach Phil Moss admits he's given up hope of signing Tom Rogic on loan, claiming the midfielder has been talked out of joining his former club.
Rogic appears all but set to join Melbourne Victory on a six-month deal after Japanese club Vegalta Sendai and Sydney FC pulled out of the race to sign the boom talent.
However, while the deal with Victory has not been officially lodged, the dream scenario of the Celtic youngster making a return to Bluetongue Stadium won't be unfolding.
Moss said owner Mike Charlesworth and new chief executive Bruce Stalder had worked “around the clock” this week to try and clinch a deal with Rogic's agent, Daniel Berman.
“It looks as though we've fallen a bit short but that's not through lack of trying. It looks as though he'll sign elsewhere,” Moss said. “I've spoken to Tommy quite a few times in the past few days. He's a great guy, a fantastic player and I hope he makes the right decision for the sake of Australian football because we need him fit and firing at the World Cup.”
Moss said Rogic would have slotted straight into the attacking midfielder role left vacant by the season-ending knee injury to Marcos Flores.
“I believe he would have been perfect fit for us and we would have been a perfect fit for him,” Moss said. “But Tommy is a big boy now, a European professional and he's got people around him advising him where to go. But we tried our hardest.”
Moss was much happier when reflecting on his side's 1-0 win over Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium, declaring the Mariners could have won by more.
“I thought we carved out four really good chances in the first half and got in behind what was a pretty high [defensive] line,” he said. “Our touch and execution just let us down a bit. A few more goals probably would have fairly reflected the performance.”
Moss highlighted the performance of central midfield duo Nick Montgomery and Anthony Caceres, who combined to cover the loss of suspended captain John Hutchinson.
But he reserved even more praise for Trent Sainsbury, who was rarely troubled by Sydney's attack and repeatedly demonstrated his excellent distribution, with his coach saying he should be talked about “at a higher level” – referring to the national team.
The mood was darker for Sydney coach Frank Farina, who was left to lament seeing Sydney's winless streak extended to five.
“We have to cut the basic errors out, like poor passing and poor control,” he said. “If you minimise those errors, we'll have a lot more of the ball and we'll score goals.”
Farina said he was particularly upset at the team's lack of fight after the Mariners went ahead through Mile Sterjovski.
“That's the first time this season that we didn't react in the positive way that I expect after going a goal down,” he said. “[It was disappointing] because in the second half we were in control of the game before the goal.”

Yeah Mossy said Rogic going to a bigger club on fox after the game on sat.
Looking o/s but the guy has to fit the dressing room - Sainsbury echoed same statement on shootout.
Mossy did say he was in constant contact with Rogic & spoke to him a lot over the last couple of days but was definately not getting him. Would he have come back for Arnie?

That would be the same people advising that Celtic was a good move for himThe way it reads to me is that the decision was not Rogics but those around him. In saying that, there still has not been an official statement from any one regarding the outcome of Rogics loan move.
