Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

About 10 junior RL grand finals were held at Bluetounge Stadium on Saturday.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ...... :'(  ...... raking in the money, and raking up the turf. Back to the scummy surface again.

even though it aint during the season, still making the pitch worse, the crusty demons will be there on the 17th of april next year... what is the bloody point of fixing the turf if they're gunna have these guys damaging it ONCE again

Do they re-turf it each year? If so, a venue can host these types of events in the off season for a considerable amount of dosh without any harm to a playing surface. If the Mariners owned it then they would be crazy to not have a winter tennant and as much activity there as possible.

Then re-turf before season in enough time to get it top notch.

So what the hell is with the official line about Canberra games because of the state of our pitch?

Furthermore... On saturday I am going to watch my eldest play in Rugby Union grand final... and its being held on Bluey!!!

While I love my boy and will be amazing to see him run on at BT...
I'm stunned. I've watched as the thugby world cup and local league finals destroy the turf before... its hard... but its a shared stadium and it is what it is...

BUT... To have this right in the middle of the whole we are moving home games to canberra supposedly for the pitchs' benefit speil.

And if they're going to let junior grand finals be played there this week, why not the Mariners last week? They're playing 11s through to 17s from 9.00am to 5.35pm. Juniors or not, that's surely going to chop the field up. Packing scrums all over the pitch isn't going to do it any good whatsoever.

Obviously, Dibo, you have much more time on your hands to read every single post on these threads than us poor mere mortals. However I do congratulate you for bringing this important bit of news to our attention.

No... About ten Rugby "Union" grand finals were held on saturday...
The ten rugby league grand finals were held on sunday...
:headbutt: :headbutt: :headbutt:
Looked OK after saturday...
Looked as you would expect it to look after 20 odd eggball games by the end of sunday.

Genuine thanks Dibo, because I was reading those posts on the thread and thinking I must be going mad.

RU *and* RL? When the pitch needs work? Farkin hell...

It's Council's ground through the management company, and they've got the right to hire it to whoever they like (or more likely in the case of community sport, simply grant it out). But seriously, if they can't keep the pitch in good nick across the summer for the one tenant who is there more than ten times a year and so basically pays for the running of the joint, then why the hell are they holding 20 eggball matches there mid season when we have to travel elsewhere to play home games?

The sooner we've got our own ground the better. A flat pack 15k stadium with stands on the long sides and terraces on the end, fans close to the action and rooves to the fenceline would be just the ticket.

We don't need big or fancy, we just need good.

As a self confessed commie I'd have thought you'd all for "the people" using the local authorities' venue!

i actually do believe it's great that the community gets the benefit of a ground that the community spent $30 million building, but a bit of sensible planning wouldn't go astray. if they can't accommodate their prime tenant properly then they're not really doing their job.

The Mariners COE will solve this problem.  The proposed boutique stadium would be perfect for RL & RU grand finals.  We could let those guys chop up that surface and put it out of action for a month instead of wrecking blue tounge's surface in the middle of our season.

No.

The other way round.Perfect chance to buld our "flat pack" stadium.Let the rest play at Bluetongue.

Eventually the knuggledraggers are going to have a team based there anyway.

No way. Keep it as the Mariners' own IMO.

How much extra could it cost to make the 5K "boutique" a 10K capacity with stands on the sidelines only?

For Blockbusters, Finals, Derbies, etc, (i.e. events guaranteed to draw at least 12K) book Bluey as a one-off special event type arrangement (a few games per season).

The rest of the time sell-out the 10K home ground and build a demand for memberships and presale tickets. More match-day earnings and reduced rent keeps more money in CCM's pockets (and offsetting the extra construction cost)

And in the long term there's the option of upgrades to increase the capacity at Tuggerah.

Holds 4166 standing and 7500 seated, plus 400 corporates etc. 12066. We've had maybe 10 games over that in 4 and a bit years.
