Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Yeh, they're real good at tunnels now. They worked out how you screw them up on the Lane Cove debacle.

Who exactley is the "they" your talking about bex?

I was being vague on purpose because I don't know who is responsible for the building that fell into the hole. I'm not even sure the court case would be finished as yet and, even if it were, it may not truly identify the exact technical nature of the failure.

I take it from the tone of your post Dru that you may have had some involvement.......  :p

The other option is get Macquarie Bank or Babcock and Brown to do it. Theres a bunch of superannuation money out there looking for solid places to go, and a sensibly designed, priced and operated fast rail line to Newcastle (and another to Canberra, while were talking) is about as solid as it comes in the area of infrastructure investment

Oh goody, another listed infrastructure fund to drain away peoples super money.

For the life of me I dont know why governments cant issue infrastructure bonds to raise the capital for this kind of investment?? solid credit rating, major institutions can invest in the nation and everyone wins.

Then again, I am a Keynsian :)

that's why debt financing was my first option. ;)

If we fail with maintaining modern transport infrastructure we will inevitably fail as a modern country; a fact that seems to have slipped the attention of all levels of government in Sydney for more than a few decades. I don't know what its going to take for them to stop talking about it and actually do something significant for the future. Unfortunately, today's governments seem to be interested primarily in the next election and government revenue rather than the future good of the country.  I wonder how much profit the privatised power authorities will earn if the very fast train happens to be electric. That is, before they wear out all the power supply infrastructure and then sell it back to the government when its just about stuffed.

I think moving from Gosford would be a really bad idea. From experience with Adelaide and Hindmarsh, having games in the centre of the city/region draws far greater crowds compared to having them outside of the city. Hindmarsh is an absolute wank to try and get to, yet Adelaide Oval is smack-bang in the middle of the city and everyone caught public transport and walked, avoiding the parking fiasco which envelops the Hindmarsh region every second weekend. The result was 20k+ compare to the 10k-or-so average for a normal home game.

Gosford was perfect for both opposing fans (many of whom stayed in Sydney and caught the train) as well as locals, given a lot of the Coast is spread north-south along the train line route. Moving to Tuggerah or wherever would be a tad silly, in my opinion. Having our training facilities and everything out there is fine, but moving games would not be a net benefit IMO.

Was no where near that particular project but do work for one of the companies involved in building LCT.

the tender process may mean that those involved may not win the project but then again there is only limited companies able to do a project such as this.

I actually read the they as being either the government or rta which is actually why I thought it was a bit OTT.

this is all well and good, assuming there's a spot in gosford to put a new ground that people would be happy with, and assuming that gosford develops significantly to become the centre of the coast.

at present, gosford is the centre more by historical and geographical accident than by any reality of business or population - more and more business is centred round the entrance, tuggerah and erina all the time, while gosford continues to wilt.

if a major urban centre development were to happen in tuggerah, gosford would drop further into the background.

I would think any massive expansion of Tuggerah as a whole would either be the result of, or result in, a transport upgrade of some form. Obviously, should that happen, the transport issues would be assuaged and therefore having a stadium there would have the same benefits as having it at Gosford at present.

LOL at high speed rail.

300k's through Brisbane Water National Park??? That right angle corner in the middle???

I think not

It is the only way to have the 2nd airport at newy, Otherwise must be in sydney.
They can go whatever way they want, no need for corners. There will be plenty of money thrown at it
LOL at 2nd airport.

The year I came to Australia (1990) I remember working out west and driving past the fenced off site of Sydneys 2nd airport at Badgerys Creek. The goverment then proceeded to bullshit ,bullshit and more bullshit about it for the next god knows how many years until like just about every other major project in NSW it was shelved.

My 9 year old will be in a nursing home by the time we see a 2nd airport or a hi speed rail link.

Don't get me wrong.....I love this country......but f**k we have the most useless f**kin politicians/bludgers on the planet.

Plan for the future??.....................ppppfffffffttttt!!!............no chance.

it is not about the future - it is about the need now

sydney airport is nearing capacity and a second airport has to be built very soon

as for useless politicians you obviously haven't been around italy or fiji lately

I don't get what "transport issues" we're talking about here with respect to Tuggerah. Its a station that every train stops at already and its as close to the Club Tuggerah site as Gosford station is to Bluetongue Stadium. Its only another 20 minutes ride north in the train; hardly a show stopper if you've got to get a train anyway. There is already good bus infrastructure joining the station.

The Club Tuggerah site is only 5 minutes off the freeway which, I hate to say, provides really good access for Sydney and Newcastle travellers.

Sure, it would be worse for those down south of Gosford but it would be better for those North of Gosford.

Of course, the best thing about it is that its only a couple of kms from my place :)

That's the whole point.......they were aware of this 20 odd years ago when they had the chance to plan for the future....but no they f**ked it up.

It's like building the M2 for example.....we know we're going to need a 3 lane each way motorway 5 minutes after we finish building it so f**k it lets just build it 2 lanes anyway that'll do.............the place is being run by twats!!
