Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Will be interesting to see if Lawrie does some kind of lap around the field on the 6th as a 'goodbye' to the fans?

and hopefully the ignorant won't boo him if he chooses to do it
They won't be there anyway.

Dunno - all the scum at my office are going for as one said today "gloating over your demise"

Payback for Boxing Day 08
I thought MM was talking about the ignorant amongst us ?

Yes I'm expecting a few bogans to attend. They may come close to outnumbering us.We only had about 5,500 at the last home game.....expect to drop at least a couple of thousand off that this week.

Be interesting to see the crowd on Friday night...

As an aside on the coach / crowds / club / team/ etc... many who still come matches today come from Sydney and followed the Northern Spirit .. our little travelling group  of 3 to 6 depending on the week are all from Sydney...

Will we still come if Arnold is the manager especially when Rovers come in... HHHmmmm I do wonder at our management GA has to be an outstanding success to have any hope of beining the crowd along... I know people who come from Blacktown, Pendel Hill, Ryde, Eastwood who come to Mariner matches I do wonder aloud if the Rovers take off can we keep them...

I have posted I think we should go to San Polo and get one of their better coaches and bring then over here
No matter how bad things are you never change your football team MF!!

Get a grip.

Wonder who Arnie will have as his assistants. Kossie was his assistant at 2007 Asian Cup. Bozza keeping coach. Slater in charge of the midfield and Foster will work on tactics and man management to ensure a cohesive unit for round 1 next season. We will play beautiful football.

I just can't get over how easily people give up on their team... especially for a country that prides itself on sport and loyalty.

I'd have Fozzie. The guy LOVES passing football.

I doubt LM gave up and told them to play shit as an act of spite.

Not in spite, but dissapointment. Not telling them to play shite but just not caring that much if they did.

Wouldn't blame him, f**k its bad enough having to cope with Arnoldout being the coach next year, imagine how low you would feel being replaced by him!

I will still follow the Mariners ... I have had family on the coast since 1974..... and a home I one day home to live in when we can afford to leave Sydney and retire...

Thus I have an attachment to the coast besides football ... BUT many who come with me followed the Northern Spirit and came for a variety of reasons including it is easier to get to Gosford than Moore Park... still a bit of the NS team... IF the Rovers deliver big crowds a great night and coming from Western Sydney a more football crowd and night out ... well HHHHHmmmm ... but also be less than 40 minutes from home ...

Now how many still come from Sydney is anybodies guess ... my observation of cars on the road etc would be somewhere between 750 to 1, 500 ...

Everyone one of these people  dislike GA ... it was the NS fans that started the Arnold Out chant... that NS side he had in year one on paper man it was hot...

GA has been an absolute failure everywhere he has been as a coach ... the Sydney travelling supporters are very football savvy and all dislike GA .. to bring GA to the Mariners to me is another big mistake the CCM board would make following on from JEDI, Canberra, the handling of Sash, Grumppy, ... like what have we got this year Marvin the Tele Tubby...

I do wonder aloud the wisdom how GA appointment if correct will be seen by the travelling Sydney fans... when Rovers are up and running...

If we don't win against the jets he has to be out you can't  go a whole season without a win at home and still have job that's so stupid to put it's nicely. Once again I think our friend from Sheffield should step up and ask afew of there up an comin gaffers to consider comin down under either from England or Brasil anywere LM needs
to go thanks but you hve done your best.

The problem im seeing with it is, as Ross Aloisi wrote a few weeks ago, is it another 'job for the boys' or is it a well thought out plan including football and business perspectives? The latter I think not.

lol.

111... does this have a source other than your own pain? Or is it FFC's stage one?

Good chuckle that.
:piralaugh:

MF, personally if I hated Arnold that much, I would see it as an incredible opportunity.  It seems to me at least half the people who go to games the world over enjoy giving shit almost as much as winning... surely this would be worth bringing their Arnold hating mates along to as well?

I say we all see this as an incredible opportunity to boost memberships!
Nearly every lay man football supporter in Australia hates Arnold, and the chance to come and regularly abuse him live should if marketed correctly see our crowd numbers go through the roof!

Imagine if in his coaching contract we could write it in that he had to wear horns... or wear a dunce hat every time he loses? Just think of the crowds we'd get!!!

That said, I think anyone who will leave their chosen team for convenience or because they hate the coach will never be a long term fan anyway.

Re Arnold Out...

Of course I will be hoping he kicks total ass and sticks it up the ass of us and pretty much everyone else in Australia. And I have to say winning the league with Arnold would be just beyond hilarity.

Sure it's unlikely...
But I have to say next season at least it has a very grim fascination factor for me...

Kind of like watching a speeding train heading toward the chasm when you know the bridge has been blown...

Your 99% sure, you know what's going to happen...
but buggered if you can look away!!

I've said from the beginning of the season that we were a couple of key signings short. Coincidence that AUFC and CCM the two teams operating under cap have had such bad seasons?

Sorry to ruin your essay, but doesn't every club have to operate under the cap?

What Jimmy said. CCM, AUFC not using the cap to its limit - like other clubs.

No waayyyyy it ruined my essay though  :tophat:

Not quite sure you are right about supporters and club loyalty today..The history of clubs formed 150 years ago or say 50 years ago is different to today.. Teams where from the poor side of town, the catholic team, the protestant team, etc. This was well shown in the David Williamson play ( The Club) where vastly different levels of society were on display..

Today and future generations often dont really have a clue why they follow a club ,they just do. But the original followers did have a clue. Thats why to me its far simpler for clubs expanding today to make geographical location the key indicator for identity.

Then its more a matter of improving standard of play, gaining success & maintaining it. Clubs with rusted on supporters are allowed more leeway in this respect. But we are a new league and a new club.

Sport today is also about the entertainment value and much of the entertainment value of going to the football is the crowd. If our crowds fall much lower getting people to come because of the joy of the crowd will be almost impossible..

Most on this site are rusted on hard core football folk who have made the Mariners our team... But many come to watch aside from the game to see a good match have a good night out.  The Rovers will take IMO a number of Sydney supporters... no use calling them bang wagoners if they stop coming our gate goes down by their payment and others they bring because they are there.

A coach needs to be able to bring a crowd to your home games... and also I guess to other teams grounds to see you play...

Thus my statement it is more a matter of improving standards and gaining success that will drive future crowds to our games... that is the whole idea of the MCOE  ... GA in no way brings these things he brings just the opposite and football folk who have not attended a match to date but might be thinking of going will not come to a Mariners game but to the Rovers...

IMO unless GA is an outstanding success, which past records indicate he will not be, then he will drive our gate down and directly impact revenue..

That is why I have said before..we are suppose to have a special relationship with San Palo.. Use this relationship as I dont think our club has the knowledge to pick a quality overseas coach... Lets get the San Palo number two or three coach... this would put bums on seats IMO because of the increase in the standard of play.

BrisRecky

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
any chance of kidnapping Patrick Kluivert??....always did like a tops dutch manager, then again I might be biased
