Given we are suppose to have a special relationship with San Palo .. I would get one of there number two coaches and this will also help with the COE getting top players...

This I like.

When Fergie was here it was commonly discussed that he did the main coaching duties and dealt more with the tactics than Lawrie.

Do you know this as fact or are you referring to forum talk?

Meanwhile, Central Coast is understood to be close to announcing that Socceroos assistant coach Graham Arnold will take the reins of the club next season.

Talks between the two parties have been ongoing since the middle of the season. Arnold will replace Lawrie McKinna, who has taken the club to two grand final appearances in the first four seasons. McKinna is expected to be given an administrative role within the club.

OK, a few thousand chanting 'Arnold out' at the last game might get a message over!

Well we're f**ked then!

Because we are going along so well at the minute...............

Biggest mistake we made in my opinion was letting Ferguson go, we should have made the changes at the end of last season with Lawrie and had Fergie take over.

Out of all of the potential local coaches Arnold is by far the best qualified and most experienced given his involvement in the Australian setup.  Coaching any team at that level he is dealing with far better players and coaches both in our team and the oposition.  Hiddink and Verbeek are no mugs and both kept him on as coach which says something.

Also given his position as Under 23 coach hopefully he would have a great idea of the young talent around the country and we may finally get to see some up and coming talent make its way in to the mariners team.

Just remember all it takes are results..............I mean just look a Lawries fall from grace.  Whether the new coach is Arnlod or not if they can improve the football (shouldn't be too hard) and put a couple of results on the board then all of a sudden it will have been a great move by the mariners.  If the new coach fails then is it any worse than we have today, the only thing the is obvious at the mariners is that there needs to be change as the dwindling crowd numbers show people have voted with their feet and $$.

And just a final thought the last people the board needs to please is the ones on here as according to the posts most people will stay loyal through anything so they have your $$ even if they sign Arnold, its the missing 5000+ they need to impress and signing someone with Arnolds profile may certainly help pull them back through the gates.

Maybe they're just talking to the Board about using the COE as a base for the Olyroos.

Please stop

He identifies talent then f**ks them up completely with his coaching and tactics.

Senior players refused to play for him and that will hurt recruitment.

Yeah, but, he is an overseas coach, right? I mean, wasn't he in the UK last week? and he's been to Kuwait and all.

I have no doubt his first signings will be Bruce Djite and Nathan Burns, those guys love him!

who's to say arnie wouldn't be better than lawrie? who's to say arnie wouldn't be the best available?

he's had experience with quality players, he got the national side through to the asian cup with somewhat more aplomb than pim has managed so far (including beating kuwait 2-0 in sydney with a HALaroos squad) and got the olyroos off to the olympics without too much sweat.

performances at the tournaments were far from spectacular but people on here are hardly raving about lawrie's last couple of years and we're not hearing any other names. this could be step 1 of arnie's rehabilitation in aussie football, at least if people are willing to accept that the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Dont know what to think of Arnold , he is an asistant coach to the national Team and he works with our national coaches . Is he better or worse than what we have I dont know what are his skills is he a tactition a motivator or is he skills based what can he bring to the club thats positive. ???

Club football and International football coaching requires different skills and qualities.

If Arnie had gone to a decent league, say to NEC Breda (rumours at one time), as a club first coach for two years and did well, then the pudding might be ready for eating.

. i think bladesman has some good points. regardless of his coaching or man-management credentials/skills, to the casual observer (you know the sometimes fan) ... he is a former national & olyroos coach, retired socceroo and still a part of the national team coaching staff who will have been to a couple of world cups in a coaching capacity - there may never be that many a-league coaches that can claim that

. but the thought of his olyroos experiences bringing in the youngsters ... i doubt it. he didn't seem to have many fans in the 2008 bunch and most of them will be at least 26 by the time next season comes around

would not be upset with these signings but the biggest fear is holman as marquee!!!

holman would probably tear this competition a new one, just as kisnorbo would in spite of popular opinion about their respective abilities.

I'd like all three. Holman is nowhere near as bad as he is painted - and does the hard work up front. I'd love to see Mrdja feeding off the crumbs from turnovers caused by Holman's hassling.
