Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

yeah i am hoping he stays with us long enough to see out our ACL campaign. in terms of his career choices and future, would that really be good for him to stick with us until then?

Mariners cool on Jedinak overtures

CENTRAL COAST Mariners are likely to prevent Socceroos midfielder Mile Jedinak from moving to Europe next month because they want to make an impact in the Asian Champions League.

Turkish club Genclerbirligi - who already have two Socceroos, James Troisi and Bruce Djite, on their books - are hoping to make it three by recruiting Jedinak in the January transfer window, and it's believed the player is desperate to accept the offer.

However, while the Mariners could make anywhere between $500,000 and $1 million by selling Jedinak - who is under contract for another 18 months - it's understood the club is unwilling to let him go as he is regarded as crucial to their fortunes in the ACL.

The stance is a stark contrast to that adopted by Newcastle Jets, who have also qualified for the ACL. In the past week the Jets have allowed two key players, skipper Jade North and young midfielder James Holland, to sign with overseas clubs even though their contracts do not expire until after the ACL group stage, which kicks off in March.

Central Coast not only want to keep their squad together for their assault on Asia, but are also hoping to sign at least one, and possibly two, foreigners for their continental campaign.

Wow.

Really the only thing a little surprising in that article is "it's believed the player is desperate to accept the offer."

Not that I expect he would rather stay at our little club for reasons of loyalty, love of the coast, etc...

My only hope is that Mile can see a key ACL role for CCM possibly springboarding him straight to a higher level in Europe; rather than jumping in desperately now and disappearing to Turkey. If he could stick around and stand out in the CL, he might get several much better offers to choose between.

...at least i hope he's thinking that.

Yes indeed Floss, wow.

I doubt Mile feels desperate to get away from the Mariners. I'm guessing he's feeling more keen to prove himself in a European comp. than anything else.

But fairs fair. He's been a very patient, hard working and devoted player to the Mariners. He trained for ages without a contract, we all know the story by now. He's ended up a Socceroo and if current form keeps up he's probably going to end up in a Socceroos squad if they qualify for Sth Africa in 2010.

He been very good for the Mariners, and (I guess) the club has in turn been good to him.

If he gets a big offer to play anywhere in Europe come the January transfer window, the club better have some very good reasons other than the club's aspirations for the ACL to hold him back.

We've seen him play and it's been obvious for some time that Mile is quality, and that time would see him him eventually depart for greener pastures.

If Mile has a good ACL campaign with us, sure it would enhance his contract offers at a later transfer opportunity.

But let's face it. Lawrie does have a penchant for playing his favourites, and if Caceres gets injured, 'our man' Hutch will slot into the ACM role and the centre midfield will leak like a sieve, some of which will tarnish Mile's performances. And if Wilko, behind him, has a bad day at the office, Mile will be spending more time chasing down strikers and ACMs busting up the middle of the park, than the riot police in Athens are spending chasing down protesters at the moment.

would he go to England instead, obviously Sheffield United would be first choice club in line-up to buy him - maybe the Blades could loan CCM one of our academy players to (Nicky Law etc) to help you out.

He wouldn't make the Sheff Utd first team, so it wouldn't be the best move for him.

First thing I thought when I read this in the paper today is that you'll hold on to him through the ACL and the Turks will get him in June or so during the Euro off-season, when he has 12mnths left on his deal.

Anybody who thought we would keep Jedi beyond this season is kidding themselves, I hope we can keep him for ACL but beyond that good luck to him, we can't stand in the way of a players ambitions.

Mile is quality but needs to work on his distribution IMO, Lawrie will uncover somebody to fill in the hole, big shoes to fill though

Given the sort of people who run our club (as opposed to the offal who run the Jest), I would expect them to have fully discussed the situation with Mile and make sure that he is given the opportunity to do whats best for him and his career.

Of course, we would go for a win/win but I dont think we would stand in the way of a players ambition.

As for replacements/marquees, we have so far surprised everyone with big names (Aloisi & Bozza) and I am 100% confident that we are going to hear of a "kick arse" signing for the ACL.

(ps - thats a hunch and nothing more BTW).

We tend to view players as assets as opposed to Cons view of them as mere stock to be traded if hte opp to turn a $ comes along.

Thats why his business model is an epic fail.

Finally, Jaza - you're bitterness at another wasted season is showing. If Carney can get on the fringes of their 1st team (before his dummy spit). Jedi will at least get his chance if thats where he ends up
