Danny boy - Our version of YNWA?
we could print off lyrics and hand them out in bay 16 so we get the whole bay singing it?  or out front of stadium, so every1 knows the words and can join in singing it?

Covic will stay for next season, I'm sure. Just not how long.

Ah, good luck to him then, regardless of whether I think he's a wanker or not, talented player, even I can admit it. Hopefully he won't burn out.

Yeah Covic's contract ends this time next year.

The Japanese wont know wat hit them

Probably a fist..... to the groin.

Ok so I was just listening to Oasis - Wonderwall, on my ipod. And I thought, this song totally reminds me of Danny right now. Then I thought hey, we should totally make a Danny video with this song (or whatever song) to put on youtube/save danny website/big screen at bluetounge (may be dreaming a little now). Then I though, well I don't have the talent to do that so someone else should. :)

Stirling idea... :tophat:

Here's the original "Danny Boy" lyrics...  :piano:

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

Here's my rewrite... More than one verse would be overkill I think...  :piano:

___________________________________________

Oh Danny boy, the posts, the posts are calling...
From end to end... down east and western sides.
Our summer's gone, and all our chants are dying...
'For you... for you... were taken from our side.
But come ye back, when summer's on the blue tongue meadow.
How it will shine, as you run onto the field...
And how we'll sing, as our sun rises from the shadow...
For Danny boy, oh Danny boy, we love you so.

:grouphug: :'( :grouphug: :'( :grouphug: :'( :grouphug: :'( :grouphug: :'(

I also love the idea that two beats after it finishes...
WE then chant - SHARP, DEEP AND PUNCHY - LIKE GUN SHOTS...

F,F,A... F, U!!!
With everyone brandishing their red cards aloft on the ...U!!!

Think F worlks better than swearing at them, as its a play on the FFA but also gets our point and feelings across.
What do people think? Take some work, lots of photocopying and make take half the pre season cup to really get decent with, but I could also get a recording done to help things along...

Perhaps Lawrie could do it karaoke style on Saturday night?

I love this line: "But come ye back, when summer's on the blue tongue meadow".

Soccersensei, as you can see, I rarely post, but that would be one of the finest posts I've read here.

Hell, I'll get into it from Bay 6!!

Well done.

Already organising the red cards, so photocopying and such shouldn't be too much effort. If even needed.

CENTRAL COAST Mariners will consider going to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to challenge Tuesday night's decision to give goalkeeper Danny Vukovic only a partial reduction in his suspension for striking the referee in the A-League grand final.

A seven-hour Football Federation Australia disciplinary tribunal hearing failed to overturn a nine-month ban which will see Vukovic miss the Beijing Olympics in August and the first three rounds of next season's A-League. In the only concession, the tribunal reduced a probationary six-month period to three.

Vukovic, who has seven days to lodge an appeal, is understood to be "shattered" by the ruling and he and the club are weighing up their options. The next step is for the matter to be heard by an FFA appeals tribunal. If that fails, the final course of action could be a challenge to the CAS.

"We are waiting for the full judgment from last night's tribunal before we see where we are at," Mariners executive chairman Lyall Gorman said yesterday.

"We expect to get it by Friday and look over it during the weekend before weighing up the options of an appeal. If we lodge an appeal we don't want to do it on a trivial basis.

"The club is standing fully beside Danny. His welfare is paramount and we are determined to do the best for him, the club and the game. The Court of Arbitration for Sport could be an option, we will cross that bridge if and when we come to it."

At risk of becoming (more) unpopular...

FFA National disciplinary Regulations

Page 10 (12 of 18 in the pdf) -

Code: R2.

Offence: Violent conduct against a match official.

Range of match suspensions: 1 year - life.

It's apparent that some of this can be suspended, but in the end rules are rules.

Every player from the highest echelon of the game to the under fives is bound by the same code of conduct. Upon registering to play football in Australia you agree to be bound by this code.

So it seems to me that the suspension cannot really be reduced or eliminated except by turning more of it into a suspended sentence, but it would have to be less than five months actually served for Danny to make Beijing (opening ceremony is 08/08/08). Frankly I don't see that happening.

The remaining option is for the guilty verdict to be overturned. I'm not sure whether Danny pleeaded guilty in the first instance, which would almost certainly rule this out as a possibility.

Unfortunately, the fact that the FFA have chosen to not take action against other players doesn't really give them cause to ignore their regulations when a referee finally forces them to take action.  The FFA has screwed up, and so has Shield.  It's unfortunate for CCM that they've only decided to get their act together now - though big questions need to be asked of Shield and the FFA over why Milligan wasn't charged.  Griffiths, I can see theri reasoning but I think they've copped out, been weak.

Still, I can't help but wonder if the FFA has taken all that into consideration when choosing to make part of his sentence suspended - we're pretty lucky they've done that.

Offence: Violent conduct against a match official.

Can't see a hand slap as violent conduct -

Thesaurus Definition Word 2003

Slap    - smack, spank, cuff

Violent - brutal, cruel, sadistic, vicious etc

Conduct - behaviour, demeanour, manner

Did it really constitute brutal, cruel, sadistic and vicious behaviour ?

Think not -

I think their definition of "violent conduct" indicates contact between the player and match official.

though its not explicitly stated
Violent Conduct Against a Match Official
Examples: pushing, striking, kicking, headbutting, elbowing
1 year to life

but stating examples rather than an absolute list of offences means that they can leave it open to the interpretation of the panel

the report says

I seem to remember when the original penalty was handed down it was mentioned that he would miss two thirds of the season. So that sounds more correcct and it may have just been a typo or whatever when the new result was released.
