I think they'd have a good case at CAS but while it's in house at the FFA, no chance

Like I've said before they just want to f**k us and ensure that Sydney FFA get to the finals. I hope our management is busy working on a recruitment plan to f**k them right back.

Getting a solid backline will help and if Nick is with us without injury for next season I would rather see money spent on a fortress type backline.

Talk like FFA wanting to F**k us to favour flying circus, having it in for us, wanting to favour the so called big clubs etc etc is ridiculous and garbage.

Sure we have every reason to be upset with Danny's existing ban but please let us not stoop down to that level.

It's just silly talk and as a supporter base we should be better than that to come out with that rot.

Vukovic: The Fight Goes On

EXCLUSIVE: Danny Vukovics Beijing battle will resume in the first week of April with the Central Coast Mariners refusing to rule out a lengthy fight for justice.
After the first attempt at overturning the goalkeepers 15 month ban effectively failed, the Gosford club have taken stock and decided that there is every reason to continue the appeals process.

A second hearing is the final avenue for Vukovic under the FFA appeals process but there remains the possibility of a showdown in the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Mariners believe valid grounds for appeal should not be dismissed after one or perhaps two hearings. They are determined to pursue all options to achieve the outcome they feel is just.

And to that end, the club has now had a former legal advisor to the Fraser government examine the case in their drive to restore Vukovics Olympic dream.

Executive chairman Lyall Gorman told au.fourfourtwo.com: Lets make this absolutely clear, we are not in the business of pursuing or submitting frivolous appeals. We dont want this process to become a comic affair that reflects badly on our club or the league.

What we believe we have here are valid grounds for appeal and we feel very strongly about pursuing this.

Im not ruling anything out at this point. We will go into this next appeal in the first week of April having sought yet another (legal) opinion and as I said, we think we have valid grounds for continuing this (fight).

As it stands Vukovic is set to miss the Beijing Olympics with his grand final altercation with referee Mark Shield also ruling him out of A-League action until the end of November.

The Olyroos youngster had been first choice in Graham Arnolds young squad but missed out on the recent 1-1 draw with Mexico in San Francisco after being hit with the initial ban.

Good, I'm glad our club are not letting the unfair ban go unchallenged and ending in the  Court of Arbitration for Sport may see the final decision taken out of the hands of the FFA with their secretive and questionable rulings.

Fight it to the end!!

That is what irks me about this, the lack of transparency.  If the hearings were open and transcripts published the sport could head off a lot of drama.  Heck look at the lesson cricket just learned about that, and look at the NRL - fully open and transparent - when was the alst time they had someone go to the CAS?

Transparency and openess is a good thing, not just in sport.

I think the ffa may diminish to stop it going to the CAS.

I think the CAS will look at the griffiths precedent and say it is unfair in the same season to have different standards.

Would fifa be unhappy if it went to CAS?

the griffiths incident does not create a precedent for the vukovic one. all the griffiths incident tells us is that had shield for whatever reason only given danny a yellow, he'd be in the clear.

conversely, the vukovic incident tells us that had griffiths been sent off, he'd have been looking at a lengthy ban.

all this tells us is that breeze f**ked up royally first time round, and that c**tface is the luckiest man in aussie football.

I'm going to put this comment out into the thread and I hope people will allow me the chance to say what I feel and not take it as a personal affront to Danny, the Mariners or the forumites own views.

I do not take the view that Danny is holier than thou and detest the fact he stood up to a ref, lost his temper and hit him.

1. The laws state you cannot handle a match official. Did Danny do that? Yes.

2. What are the penalties for handling a match official? I've seen life bans handed out by amateur tribunals, and as has been highlighted in this thread and elsewhere, professional players have been given lengthy bans - anywhere from 8 -10 matches to months away. Agreed that Danny's ban should be comparative to the other professional leagues stance on this issue.

3. The incident happened at the Newcastle goal, and our goalie was up there and got involved in an incident. Does anyone wonder why the hell Danny would do this?

He has done it a lot in the quest for his first goal, and quite frankly, it is now a dangerous tactic for him to employ (as is evidenced by his inability to manage the stress of the causing incident in this matter, and his conduct at that time [he was going off]). This is definitely a chink in Danny's armour and one he should address, ban or no ban. A great goalie does not make a great attacking footballer in a corner at the close of the match. This tactic nearly cost us a goal vs. Sydney earlier in the year, and now it has gotten Danny embroiled in a incident he should not have been anywhere near to.

4. Should the club and Danny go to the CAS? Yes, get them to assess the FFA's deliberations on the matter, and have them look at how the FFA managed the disciplinary process.

5. Does the Griffiths incident have any bearing on this matter?

Probably not. THAT matter was dealt with differently, and was penalised by way of a yellow. The ref got it wrong and the FFA won't or can't get into the matter now that the ref 'dealt with it'. The same would have applied if Danny had been given a yellow for his incident, but he was handed a straight red instead. Hate the precedence that the Griffiths matter causes, and hope that refs will send more incidents to a tribunal in the future rather than deal with a yellow on the spot and close the issue from further scrutiny.

I can see Danny still having to cop a ban of some sort even with a CAS review of the FFA's decisions.

Where does a ban place Danny in regards to his obligations under his existing contract to the Mariners? If he is under a ban when his contract expires, does that mean we've probably seen the last of him in Mariners colours?

Given the press about Van Stratten in recent times, I don't think Danny is going to be too comfortable about where he's heading if he can't play. He may find himself returning from a ban and the club signed Van Stratten and having to compete for his spot back.

Disagree with point 3.

In a cup final, injury time and only down by a goal, Danny should have gone up there. Goalkeeper's around the World do it.

DiCanio got 3 months for pushing a ref over. How can Danny get 15months for a slap of the hand?

Yes, it was stupid but a month is all it deserved.  I'd like to know what sanctions Shields is facing for gross ineptitude and incompetence?
