Unless they suspend him for "games" instead of a time period the ban will begin 24/2/2008 - the date of the Grand Final.

The FFA would have saved time and money if they had simply said a 9 game ban starting on a particular date. By imposing months, they were forced to make it huge to cover any a-league games.
They should simply change it to the equivelant games he will miss, starting at the pre-season cup. Then he can play the olimpics. I doubt we would have appealed 2 times if they had done that originally.

im really unsure of what the outcome will be...either way the FFA will cop a lot more flack from the public for other a) letting danny play in the olympics or b) making the ban stand and really are just digging a deeper hole everytime they delay decisions (or make them in the first place)

not too long now so i guess all we can do is hope

DISPIRITED Central Coast Mariners goalkeeper Danny Vukovic will know his Beijing Olympic Games fate next week, but Olyroos coach Graham Arnold has moved swiftly to sound out Reading's Adam Federici as a possible replacement for China.

The independent appeals committee of Football Federation Australia yesterday delayed a final verdict on the nine-month ban imposed on Vukovic after his brain explosion in the A-League grand final.

He slapped referee Mark Shield on the arm in the final moments of the match won by Newcastle.

"There are obviously some issues they are still considering," FFA's Bonita Mersiades said yesterday.

Arnold, just back from Europe where he watched Federici and spoke to Reading's manager Steve Coppell about the player, said yesterday: "I still have my fingers crossed about Danny.

"But I have to look at the bigger picture (in case he's not there).

"Adam made a couple of appearances in the Premier League last year but he's playing reserves at the moment. I had a good meeting with Steve Coppell.

"Federici is not an over-age player. He played for the Australian under-20s at the World Youth finals in Holland a couple of years ago."

Arnold did not call on Federici's services for the Olympic qualifiers.

With Vukovic banned after the grand final and going through the appeals process, Arnold gave Perth Glory custodian Tando Velaphi his chance in the recent friendly against Mexico. "He performed very well," Arnold said.

Mariners executive chairman Lyall Gorman expressed disappointment that the FFA could not make an announcement on Vukovic yesterday.

"He is doing it very hard. It has been a tough journey for him," Gorman said. "It's not just about the Olympics.

"The Socceroos and commercial deals are staring him in the face.

"He's lived this incident a thousand times over."

Gorman didn't want to pre-empt any decision by the appeals committee but said Vukovic might go to England and train with Sheffield United.

The Mariners have forged links with the Championship club and Gorman said coach Lawrie McKinna was in Britain looking at their structure.

The Olyroos will step up their Games preparations from May 1 with a camp in Townsville.

"We need to get the A-League players back in training," Arnold said.
