i wholeheartedly agree with arab.
you can still hold the manager to account - i didn't suggest you can't - but you *have* to take mitigating factors into account. the thing is that we don't know what these factors are, the people doing the hiring and firing do.
if lawrie's asked for a player and been told no, or been given an inadequate sum to bid with, then that is part and parcel of his response when given a 'please explain' by the board.
what's more, the point of hiring a new manager is reduced to nil. you could hire guus hiddink, but if his decisions on players are subject to review by a couple of shonky property developers and a brewer then he's not going to be able to work his full mojo.
long story short, it's not a get out of jail card, but not taking it into account is ignoring the reality of the situation.
