Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Would that be 100% true? I would imagine that no matter what, Lawrie has the entire cap to spend (and if sponsors come on board, ASAs too).

Sasho certainly wouldn't be a marquee, so it's then up to Lawrie how he budgets his use of the cap. Lawrie will have windows in the cap to sign different types of players and an ideal price tag. This will be done with the squad's development over a few years in mind (i.e. you can't sign a bunch of players on three year deals with the money back-ended - you'll shoot straight over the cap at the third year).

If Sasho's idea of his worth does not concur with Lawrie's, then we can't fit him in, but the money men don't have anything to do with it in that circumstance.

Unless of course we're not spending the whole cap, in which case our money men should be hunted down with burning torches and pitchforks and forced to pay up.

Sods law almost demands that Sash would have capped his debut with a goal.

Does that alter the fact that we were right to not offer a big 2 year contract to an ageing striker?? Of course not.

IMHO, he will go ok next season with 6 or so goals (and probably against us too) but lets see how he goes after that. Well done Kareem

you'd be surprised how much influence and control the money men have

it is their money after all!

LOL @ anyone who thinks the person with the $$ doesnt run things.

Why would a football club be any different to any other business.

Tell me, if you had invested your money in a business, would you let anyone else dictate how it was spent?

No? Neither would I.

+ 1 that sasho will score against us!
One thing I always admired was how he fired up vs Sydney FC...no suprise if he does it against us!  :'(

PS. Just want to make it clear that I am only defending McKinna in this instance- I have plenty of gripes like everyone else with certain tactics (long balls, late subs + caceres) but to bag him and/or the money men out for a responsible decision is just ludicrous

hmmm...maybe I should change my signature from Jets for wooden spoon v4 to v6 :p

let me throw a "what if" spanner in the works. what if the real business deal was for the mariners  to just drift along for a few years then complain about lack of local support and shift the franchise to a vacant west sydney??  As a second team from melbourne has been almost set in concrete a moving mariners would allow for canberra or tasmania and solves a problem at FFA.
This is only a business theory. we have the drawing potential from 300,000 cc citizens (with no money) and if they went to sydney have a target of 2,000,000 plus. so why would the franchisees put up with being abused every day for no money.
I bet they could do a deal with the Panthers right now (believe it)
As I said only  a "what if"

To be realistic, you'd have to say it's an option for the Mariners' owners to consider.

However, that sort of move would vastly alienate the team from all it's supporters here, and they'd have to start afresh in the western Sydney area. And people there would be sceptical, just as our RL fans located here, are suspicious of a RL team relocating from Sydney.

And that would beg the question of whether all that expense and bother would be worth it, and whether they'd get enough supporters in the western Sydney area, to replace the 90-odd % they'd lose from up here.

I have heard that Peter Turnbull was previously from the western Sydney area football ranks, so I guess it's one option that may pop up from time to time.

But as the squad moves away from ex-western Sydney players to local and more parts foreign enlisted, that sort of pining for a move to the western Sydney should diminish.

And on top of all that, as FFC Mariner above has said, what about Club Tugg.?

There is no way the Mariners will move from there current home. It is there goal to become the premier club in Australia and Asia and the vision is seen on the Central Coast of NSW.

It'd be a recipe for Beagles in reverse - a club going to the West (that they don't want - they want one of their own) in the hope they can draw a bigger fanbase (alienating the ones they already had).

If this club has learnt anything from the Beagles (and I suspect they have) it would take either grossly misplaced optimism or utterly wilful stupidity to imagine that they might be able to make a move like that stick.

" what if"  not one spade has been turned at club tugg and while the two councils were throwing hundreds of thousands at the club what do you think they would say. "hello coast"
I dont know if they bought the site or are just leasing it but with two developers on the board they wont care what they build there as long as they make a profit.
90% of almost 7000 fans is only 6300 and some of them are from sydney.
Also if your not from the west you probably wouldn't realise the huge fan base the mariners have there already(like us they hate sydney too). Travelling up here especially on a friday is a nightmare and the long drive home after a loss changes the resolve of everyone except those who bleed yellow and navy.
And no it would not be a beagles in reverse as ccm does not have even a decade of history to crow about and they would not be amalgamating with any body. look at the current ties ccm has with sydney junior clubs and Westfield High school.
Now Im a local who goes to every home game, trial , preseason  and some to scum or fc and bless myself every time i go past bluetounge so my loyalties are here however if you take the emotion out of question,  financially it makes sense in a "what if "situation.

Don't be a moron, its a rediculous theory and its not going to happen. Now get back on topic and stop wasting my time.  :redcard:

I have never called for McKinnas sacking. But if he doesn't overcome his propensity for playing favourites and offer Gumps a contract then he should be on his way.

Despite the way he is treated by management he always gives 100% and invariably sparks the team. Did it again tonight showing the protected species Hutchinson how a mid fielder should play.

By the way is that the first time Hutch has visited the bench?
