I'd have to think with the late inception of the W-League that it won't be played on the same day, or at the same venues (Hire, cleaning, staffing, security, etc). Which is a shame, I'd gladly pay a bit more for a 2nd, even 3rd game (YL) though with memberships already out, I don't think this is possible.

Mmmm, surely they'd be crazy, and sadly almost dooming the first season if they don't link it up on the same day...? With only ten rounds, the late inception might not be so late so too speak, they wouldn't have to start for a couple of months from now and could still tie in with the HAL season. We can also always do another membership offer, as they do a few times a year as the games dwindle in numbers etc... This with a "current members special offer" is what I think might be most likely...but who knows...they may be feeling more generous ;D

As to the Mariners playing out of Sydney, besides the insult and stupidity, when we get almost double the crowd to our pre season games...? They would have to be utterly bonkers.

It was stated on NBN news last night that the Mariners team will play out of Sydney. That must be wrong surely?

u are wrong

they stated they will be based in sydney (i.e. training) and play on the coast

however, i can see plenty of double headers with sydney or newcastle

Do you think the ground could handle it though. Good idea, however.

It would be a problem in bad weather especially.I don't think they should be playing any games at all before the main game. The pitch should be in perfect condition for the main game. We're always complaining about the state of the pitches in this country yet we do nothing to help rectify the situation.

Do you think Man U,Chelsea,Real Madrid,AC Milan etc would have another 2 games played immediately before the main game............no chance!
Even little old DUFC don't even train on the main pitch and the reserves don't always play on it either. My wife took my daughter there last year and while they were very nice to them and showed them round the stadium etc they were allowed to walk around the track at the side of the pitch but not on it.My wife said it was in pristine condition.
Our pitch is half decent but it's certainly not pristine. There should be nothing but the main game played on it imo.

Yeah hard not to agree with your reasoning...
Perhaps a compromise of one before and one after?
When the boys leave the pitch each time it still looks in pretty good nick to me...

I agree it doesn't look bad at the moment but if they keep playing 3 games one after the other combined with the inevitable heavy rain in summer it won't be long before its like a potato field.

Personally I think they should play their home games when the Mariners are away and vice versa.

The pitch could handle 3 games in a night no worries. It takes 3 league games presumably.
Also there was little affect from the original double header at bluey, and the pitch was not nearly as good then as now.

One before and one after would be the best bet i would say. W, then A then Y.

It would be unfair to expect young female supporters to be at the ground til midnight to watch the W league. So should be efore hand. Before hand would also ensure the maximum crowd number for the mens matches as well.

Roche appointed Mariners' Westfield W-League coach
29.08.08 14:02  FootballNSW

Stephen Roche has today been appointed the Central Coast Mariners inaugural Westfield W-League coach for the 2008/09 season, nearly two months out from the late October kick off of Australia's new elite domestic competition for women.

The 41-year-old, who is a member of the Australian Coaching Council and holds an AFC B License and is currently completing his AFC A License was delighted to learn of his appointment and is eager to contribute to what is an exciting new era for the Mariners and for football in Australia.

I am absolutely delighted about my forthcoming duties with the Central Coast Mariners in the Westfield W-League,"said Roche.

It is important that we assemble a competitive squad, which will in turn generate bigger crowds and public interest as the competition evolves.

Currently heading the football program at the Knox Grammar School in Wahroonga, Roche has also held a position as NSW Country Womens state coach, having taken a number of its teams to various National Championships over the past few years.

Roche believes that his appointment as the Mariners Westfield W-League coach has pushed his personal achievements to new heights, as he continues to develop his coaching career at an elite level.

Its the biggest step you could possibly take as a coach being part of Australias elite womens competition," said Roche.

Its all about building a solid foundation with the squad and getting the best out of the team in what will be an exciting year for the womens game.

Exciting :)

Any ideas on when we will start signing players?

Football NSW are having a lot to do with it:
""18 August 2008 - W-League is coming to NSW

One of the most exciting events to happen in Women's football is coming to NSW and you're invited to be a part of it. Football NSW, in conjunction with Sydney FC and the Central Coast Mariners FC, will be participating in the ground breaking inaugural season of the Westfield's W-League.

If you are a player and are interested in playing in this exciting league, you are invited to complete the Expression of Interest Form and return it to Hayley Todd, Female Participation Co-Coordinator, Football NSW by email on hayley@footballnsw.com.au or by fax on 02 9629 3770 by Wednesday 27th August - NSW Player EOI - SFC & CCMFC

Open trials will be held at Valentine Sports Park on Monday 1st September and Tuesday 2nd September 2008, commencing at 6.45pm." - FNSW e-news

First game at end of October I believe.

I'm well excited about this.

Any news on Tv coverage talks? ABC?

As head coach of the socceroos, Frank Farina's greatest contribution to Australian football was to lose to Uruguay.

If we went to that world cup the mess would of been swept under the rug.

Instead, we failed, took a long hard look at ourselves and improved.

Exciting times. I'm loving the football scene in Australia despite Robbie Slater being apart of it.

Not to say there are no dissapointing aspects. Arnold, refs, Bay 16 - worst seats in the house, more expensive then other places. wtf??

But the overall direction we are headed is so overwhelmingly positive, I must pinch myself from time to time.

5-6 years after reforms a professional women's league. A self-pinching moment indeed.

Womens football, on ABC or SBS opens up the game to a segment of the market that cannot ever be tapped by the knuckledraggers or that stupid tard game.

Ok, so the support group for the mens comp are you guys, the "Marinators".

Will the support group for the womens comp be the "Marionettes" ;)

I know, lame joke, I sorry.

So can we expect the W league games to be held as openers for the A league, like the WNBL used to? Or will they be held separately at a different location and time all together?

Either way, its cool, twice the mariner goodness to follow.

As part of the sack full of cash from the government for funding the league, I believe a match is to be shown live, most likely on ABC2.

Whether Fox has a bite is anyone guess. Even if they did one match a round prior to the main game so it costs less. The same sponsors of the netball would be attracted to womens soccer, so hopefully the ad revenue would at least cover broadcast costs.

Fox won't be allowed near public funding & rightly so. The extra taxpayer funding to broadcast the league will go to one of our taxpayer funded broadcasters.
From what I've read, the WL will be played at regional grounds to their own schedule. The Newcastle WL team for example is playing all home games at Wanderers Oval. Not that there are many in only a 12 week comp.

I think I heard that the 'sack full o' cash' is to be opened IF the league is broadcast on FTA.
Broadcast deal is signed, then sack is opened.

I'm excited about the W-league from a expansion and game development angle.
I personally wouldn't go to pluim to watch matches. But would tune in to ABC2.
I would be a fair weather w-league supporter. Final Series and maybe a GC away match would get me to the game.
