One positive is the amount of yellow in the stands (well, the Western stand ;)) seemed the best yet. Maybe with the hot day less people covered it with jackets, etc.
Phoenix game is possibly one more likely to attract the more die-hard fans (so 9011 of them is good), who all have merch.
Looked like a yellow tide flowing out of Bluetongue and up the road after the game.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I think it means that what we saw today is our regular base, but what we haven't started getting in are the walk ups that take us into the low-mid teens. They won't come with dross like that.

We were very ordinary, although we weren't great when we whipped Perth 4-1 either. If a couple that slipped a very close wide or Jedi's woodwork had stuck, different story.

The week off seems to do us no good. Like the Grand Final.

How about the lack of yellow in the Bay, and by that I mean people not shirts.

Diabolical rubbish. Mariners were shite, Wellington no better. Zero atmosphere. The entire ground had succumbed to heat stroke. One of the worse, if not the worse, games I've seen in the A-League. Deserved the crowd's booing at the end.

didnt fall awkwardly, from what i saw Kwa$nik went studs up into clarky's shoulder ( prove me wrong)

The challenge on Clark when he did his shoulder was from Smeltz.

Anyone thinking that LM should be shot for replacing Caceres should think again IMO. Fair dinkum, his first touch today was as slippery as a teflon frying pan... it was bloody aweful. Almost as bad as McDonald last Wednesday night. I wasn't surprised in the least to see him go off when he did.

Fair point but I still think he was the best of a bad bunch.

Could not agree more. Absolute crap from us and the same for the game.

Paying fans, week in, week out deserve better than what was dished up by us tonight.

There are a few players who need to have a long hard look at themselves.

It should have been three points in the bank. You can't afford to drop points at home against ordinary sides like Wellington.

The soft goals are killing us.

I always love home games, but after that effort, to be honest, I wish I went to the beach or had a barbie and a few beers instead.

. vs adelaide last game of v2? but anyone can be forgiven for removing that one from the memory

. i can understand people getting upset when the team is getting bagged ... especially if they are still playing the game. if you are looking for a way to motivate them find something else, telling someone they're shit doesn't tend to inspire good things - don't forget you can always come on here and bag the shit out of them after the game (and any other fans you disagree with ;))

. also most people would realise it wasn't a particularly brilliant performance so vocal criticism is just rubbing their noses in it

I think they all knew they were playing way below par and slandering them for it while the game is in process, makes it that much harder for them to rise above it.

I'd like to quickly forget that excuse for a "football game"...... alas, more things than I'd care to like are stuck in my head as a result of it.

*  If you're going to spend the first ten minutes of the game playing short, sharp passes on the ground with men running off the ball and your defence looking solid, only to abandon it for "diagonal long passes" to no-one - please don't.  M'kay??

*  Long balls do not work 90% of the time.  No matter what Scottish Coaching 101 might tell you, They. Just. Do. Not.  And if you insist on persisting with this garbage, then at least have 3 up front (MacAllister, Sasho, Simon), so you've got a few options for this so called "tactic".

*  Wilkinson is a diabolically out of form shadow of the player he was before his knee injury.  It has affected his confidence to the point where a drop to the bench is the only thing that might shock him out of his slump.  And quite frankly, if your captain, the man you look to, lionheart blah blah blah lacks confidence, then the rest of the team might just be thinking twice as well.

*  Hutchinson, get your act together.  Porter.  Just.......... no.  Bogic, Osman (still a bit shaky), and a few others are still a bit on the 'meh' side.

*  Yes, he's my favourite player in our team, but given the right position (a roaming Wayne Rooney No. 10/9-ish role) and the freedom to _stick with it_, try things, and a CM teammate in support who isn't a giant pile of rubbish (Hutchinson), Adrian Caceres has the potential to tear this league apart, Fred style.  He has the skills, he has the touch, he has the vision, and you can see in the way he interacts with the fans that he has the hunger.  SET THE MAN LOOSE!!!!

*  Lawrie, _please_ listen to Alex Tobin more.  The man isn't a god of Australian Football for no reason.

*  Where did this holier than thou mentality of "don't pick on the team" come from??  What are we supposed to do, sit there and accept this garbage week in, week out, and politely hand over our $'s for the privilege??  I can think of many a league around the world where this kind of "football" would have resulted in the manager being sacked already.

I fear we are in for a severe bollocking on Friday night......

P.S.  Figured I'd make this post one of 'constructive criticism', so the "don't pick on the team" brigade actually had to answer my questions/thoughts with properly worded and thought out posts, not just the "omg, you're not fit to be a fan, follow the team unquestioningly" rubbish that has been pervading this place lately.

P.P.S.  Greenpole - you're welcome.  Although you were a bit easy to drag away. Fire up more next time yeah??    :p

what a garbage game that was. Everything from referees, linesmen (yes the woman looks like a man), the performance by both teams, McKinna's strange substitution of Caceres who was arguably the best player out there and the baffling lack of ball control exibited by the Mariners. They need to pick up their game for Friday if they want to pose any threat to the scum. Wellington seem to infect whoever they play against with shit. Let's hope the shit doesn't stick for Fridays match. I rate that game 3/10... I have seen worse but generally that is from teams like Perth and Scumcastle.
I agree it was rubish as I said Danny should have stayed on the sideline and left Bozza in for his last game .
Mark would have been watching the ball and had a men on the post for the corners no direction from the back and that is why we lost two games this season when bozza was not directing and organising the flow of the game.

Thanks Bozza for what you have shown us and thanks to CC for giving you a chance but I dont blame you if you dont want to sit on the sideline and watch that again since you only have two or three seasons left in you bye  boz.

Serious you are allowed to make your comments but looks like we saw some performances differently.
* The Mariners were flat as a team and sometimes it just happens. The first touch from most was poor and the lack of closing down play in midfield allowed the Wellington side to much time on the ball. The difference between the 2 teams was a set piece. Dodd scores off Wellington's corner whilst O'Grady heads over the bar with a free header in the box. Both teams were poor but one team had more hunger.

* I thought Wilko played well maybe one of our best in a poor performance. Smeltz hardly had a chance to score and Wellington failed to penetrate the defence which shows the team has tightened up. Last 4 goals off set pieces and i know at training the boys have been working on it as the gaffer sees it as an area of concern.

* Hutch was poor and is struggling with injury and probably shouldnt have played. He was training on or off all week trying to overcome injury. NO excuse though if he puts his hand up to play he needs to perform.

* Adrian was rubbish. He is our most creative player but when he cannot keep the ball at his feet or control the ball he is not much help. McKinna hooked him after 60 minutes because he was struggling with the heat and having a really poor game.

* Danny had a quiet game but still needs to control his area off set pieces.
* Clark played well until injury and kept Kwassie quiet.
* Boogs was unlucky with head clash but forming a solid partnership with Wilko.
* O'Grady caught out in first A-League game for a long time.
* Bojic had a ok game out of position once again. With Hutch tucking in so much Bojic was up and down our left marking 2 players most of the time and he did ok with that.
* Osman put some good balls in but no Mariners players were making efforts to the back post and hence his balls might have looked poor. He was flat in 2nd half and would have been hooked if not for Clarke's injury.
* Jedinak toiled hard in the midfield and gave away a stupid yellow card. Poor challenge.
* Sash was our best player and has been most of the season. He worked all 90 mins and tried to find the back of the net.
* Simon struggled in the heat.
* Macca didnt show to much.
* Porter trying to pass balls from 60m is ineffective and the Wellington defense handled that well.

For Friday night the Mariners need to lift big time. I think a derby game is what is needed and the players need to lift.

Changes i would make is bring D'Appuzzo in for Boogs if he is out. Macca in for Matt. Osman to right back with injury to Clark and Porter in Midfield. Greg O in for Hutch.
4 changes but it might just spark the side. But we know the gaffer is loyal and probably will stay solid.

once again you lot make me laugh.yeh sure it was a bad game but blaming just a few players is a poor effort by so called supporters.hutch and ossie played as just the same as the rest of the team.and as for your mile i'm afraid his head is swelling just a little,he needs to come back to earth.

Trying to forget all about yesterdays game so change of subject.

Jeff called this 100% right before the game and added to his tipping prowess, can we have his views prior to every game.

I reckon the heat had a lot to do with the pace of the game. It was a slow and dull match and the guys from both sides struggled to get right into it.

Most games played in the heat here are slow mistake riddled affairs. I for one reckon the Sunday games should be scrapped and play 2 Friday night and 2 Saturday night games. Next yr after expansion and in future yrs maybe Monday night games. Day games in heat robs the fan, and also destroys the reputation of the A-League. Yesterdays game reminded me of last yrs final.

We where lucky to win, I thought a draw would have been a fair result. Oh well
a fair resuklt would have been for the game to be cancelled and neither teams get ANY points
absolute rubbish
Danny- did well, gave every1 in bay 7 a few laughs at end when he ran up. Good return IMO
Boogs- Unlucky- hope he is fit for Newcastle game
Clark- did well- he is dependable
Wilko- slowly improving. But we majorly lacked LEADERSHIP
Bojic- not as good as in recent weeks but still not bad. Although his not so good left foot is starting to show (cant wait til Heff is back)
Jedi- A bit flat for his standards but still a decent game. Good on him with yellow card- ref didnt call foul on him and he hacked the guy good (got wat he deserved). Respect has gone up even more for Mile
Hutch- good 1st 10 mins then flat! He needs to go bench (when players return)
Caceres- I thought he did good and Bay7 were not happy (neither was I) when he was taken off
Osman- possibly the worst player at the mariners atm (just ahead of hutch)- good squad player but he really was a waste of space
Sash- didnt do much. I think today was a great xample of ageing. Note: He is and will still be capable of great games (eg. Sydney) but ageing= inconsistency. Bad decision making as well
Simon- did his best- every1 kept giving him balls expecting him to do wonders- he cant do everything for us. Good Yellow Card- ref was a tosser

Ogrady- did good IMO
Macca- didnt talk enough (2 head clashes with fellow players)
Porter- 2x as good as Ossie- get Ossie out!

Ref sucked- IMO worst ever reffed HAL game that I have seen. Shocking inconsitencies
linesman on western sideline- good with offsides...but absolute crap with throwins- ITS THE WHOLE FREAKIN BALL!
Girl- lol at Simon offside- wat on earth was she waiting for

Kwassie- absolute tosser for kicking ball away! (why no yellow card?)

Who was meant to be marking back post???

For Friday assuming Clark + Boogs out

                      Vukovic
Porter        Wilko      Bojic        DaPuzzo
                      Jedi
      Owens        Caceres          Hutch
                Simon          Macca

Special mention: Macca after the match
ABSOLUTE LEGEND
stayed around for like 30-40 autographs and talkin to fans!
Good guy- he was very dissappointed- u could tell it from his voice and face. He also was sayin how important friday was gonna be against Newcastle (sif he doesnt call em scum :p)
Any idiot out there havin a whinge bout him kissing club badge should shut up- coz even at early days he really seems to care about this club.
Shame he wasnt that flash on the field today...
IMO he aint much use as a sub- (Sasho is!)

Nobody was supposed to be marking back post, because if you all have not noticed, Danny never has a player on back post at corners.

From 1 keeper to another, what the f**k is that all about Danny?
