So do agree that there was no need for a drinks break on Sunday yet Mick?

no, the drinks break is necessary and most will agree
It wasnt that hot it was only 28 degrees. It is a summer competition. The players need to be able to tough it out or the FFA needs to say no to afternoon football and everything is played at night or late evening.

yes they need to say no to afternoon, but the fact is that it was an afternoon game, it was thirty degrees and was the first hot game of the season the teams have played in

the health of the players is paramount and to say they need to tough it out is a non-arguement if someone gets really sick or even dies from heat stroke

they are not machines, they are human beings and should be treated as such

. will fergie's mob be playing 3 o'clock games next year?

. if they are conditioned correctly, they should have a huge advantage at home

According to that line of thinking, you'd think that we'd have a hugh advantage over the sheepshaggers. Alas... sigh  :'(

. that is precisely what i was thinking ... but we weren't conditioned for the heat either

Agree. Absurd to be playing at all. Without drinks break game would have been even more boring, and someone likely would have fallen to heat stroke or dehidration

for sure, when i was playing national youth league we used to regularly play in 30 degrees plus and we had guys sick all the time after a game, especially in western sydney

even had a guy sent to hospital with dehydration

how we wished we could have had a drinks break then

i guess people who have never been in that situation know how hard it is to do 10kms+ in a game in that sort of heat and how much fluid and weight is actually lost

* I thought Wilko played well maybe one of our best in a poor performance. Smeltz hardly had a chance to score and Wellington failed to penetrate the defence which shows the team has tightened up. Last 4 goals off set pieces and i know at training the boys have been working on it as the gaffer sees it as an area of concern.

* Osman put some good balls in but no Mariners players were making efforts to the back post and hence his balls might have looked poor.

Changes i would make is bring D'Appuzzo in for Boogs if he is out. Macca in for Matt. Osman to right back with injury to Clark and Porter in Midfield. Greg O in for Hutch.
4 changes but it might just spark the side. But we know the gaffer is loyal and probably will stay solid.

Bulldog I totally agree with your Wilko assessment, close to our best IMO.

But Osman... are you serious, unless your seven metres tall no one is getting a head on any of his crosses. The balls were either slamming into the defender marking him or landing 10 metres the other side of his team mates.

I also don't see the point in benching Matt Simon, close to our best so far this season and this may shatter his confidence. He is also scoring goals I dont understand the logic there mate.
If we had a left winger in which hutch is meant to play there would have been balls for someone on the back post but no one made the effort.

Matt Simon is struggling with the physical nature of A-League defenders like Og from AU and Durrante WP. It wont shatter his confidence and he will be better late in the game coming on fresh and providing that impact. Dylan is stronger and deserves a chance as he was our best striker in pre-season before he got injured. You cant drop sash he has been outstanding this season and working hard.

have to agree with everything luke says here

laughable to drop sash as he has been our best player this season
for real?
way too inconsistent IMO
some games he has been our best but some games he has wasted a spot on the team sheet. On his day Sash is unmatchable but we cant risk him being on/off...

Last week sash did little, but simon did less IMO
bar getting in maccas way.
Simon needs to run his heart out to deserve his spot ahead of macca and sash who are higher skilled

You guys must see things in a different position.

I am lucky in a way that I am right on the halfway line and have to call play by play for radio.

Sash was constantly running. In fact his workrate matched many of the midfielders. We called it on a number of occasions. When Dylan came on he went to a right wing position and as per Adelaide his workrate increased.

This was highlighted no better than about ten minutes to go where he made a fifty metre run to tackle a player near our own corner flag and instantly sprinted about forty minutes back to receive a pass.

I was surprised by the amount of work Sash did. He was constantly getting back into the midfield. Considering the heat I thought he was great.

Sash certainly awoke in the 2nd half. But saw little of him in the first at all.

But to be fair, little, last week was more than most by a fair way.

And I seem to remember our defenders stood there watching him do that. Very impressed by Sash, he never gave up.

Me thinks someone is playing for a contract. His work rate has definately incresed this season. Great having 4 strikers in the squad!!!
