Mariners v Queensland Minor Semi Finals

I feel like I've hired out 'Meet the Spartans' 3 times in the past month. I keep paying money to watch the same s**t. I don't know what the hell the team does at training during the week, but it doesn't seem to be anything that improves themselves. There is no enthusiasm, no get-go. Just the same ineptitude and lack of initiative on the pitch. I don't want to open up the sports section of the Express Advocate on Wednesday and read about how Lawrie was dissappointed in the boys after tonight and that the team is ready to play a big one in the coming match- they've had enough excuses and failed to deliver each time.

You get the impression the boys are all more concerned about the ACL and couldn't give a damn about the remainder of the A-League season. Going to Suncorp and winning at least 2-0 is possible with the current team, but based on form it looks highly unlikely. What is it now, 370 minutes without scoring a single goal?

So Freakin True. I, like many others, are completely and utterly disgusted!

I too feel as if i have watched the same shite over and over for the tailing end of this season - and im not just referring to our inability to find the back of the net, but also Shite coaching and Shite ref-ing.

When the Mariners come out of that tunnel, the crowd goes nuts everytime! but for some reason, it seems that the guys all have something better to do - none of them look like they REALLY REALLY want to be there. I have read posts lately of people having a go at the marinators, saying they dont make enough noise or provide enough support, and i partially agree, but i feel it is justified. Whats the point? we still play shite.

The Only one of our guys to actually put forth some enthusiasm was Sasho, and quite frankly, i reckon we could have acheived the same result if it were only sasho playing last night. Danny played quite poorly - i dont know what he was thinking by not picking the ball up all those times. It was a really dangerous play - roar have speed and they ran on to the ball every time. Danny was tired at 5mins in to the first half - and his face showed it.

I dont know that Lawrie's time is up, he finally seemed to get the substitution thing last night - he started alot earlier than normal, which is good to see. He should have started with Sasho, and Dylan needed to be either on the bench for the first half or pulled off - he simply doesnt have the finess or skills to play football at this level - Hes like a dog chasing a car, he doesnt know what to do when he gets the ball. i watched Lawrie alot last night - he wasnt providing any support to the players, he was more interested in talking to the guy on his left on the bench. At the post game interview, Lawrie looked like he was "caught out" - and didnt actually know what to say about the game. He had no answers  :redcard:

Yeah the surface was crap, but i dont believe that it defined the play nor the result. We just simply do not "want" IT anymore.

All in all, we have become very passive - we dont attack enough - everytime Roar got posession, we would give the players time to hold the ball, and wait for the rest of their team to run up to the play, instead of simply running at them. Sahso at least took chances, chasing the ball right to the keepers gloves, whilst the rest of our guys hung back around halfway. When we gain posession, its a mess, we cant connect passes, at least not effectivley, and we spend too much time kicking the ball backwards than agressivley moving forward.

Our season might as well be over - perhaps save the money travelling to suncorp. Unless of course Lawrie wants to try something new, and the boys decide that they actually want to be there. We need to take chances, we need to be agressive and not Passive, WE NEED TO CONVERT GOAL OPPORTUNITIES INTO ACTUAL GOALS.

Just a question - what balls did Danny not pick up.... I think there is a rather long bow you are drawing at the moment..... Danny had a decent game we defended decently (not well but not bad) our MF is crap..... thats the engine and we have gone from a humming V8 (with Jedi) to running on two cylinders.... fact is we need to change our play to adapt to this loss. WE HAVEN'T and we won't win until we do. Our MF was physical, we aren't now - so lets play different football....

Basic errors on the first goal - Pedj beaten to the ball - that happens everywhere in all leagues, but why oh why did we not have someone on the backstick - that has to the the second or 3rd time this year. As a keeper the first thing I do is establish my post players....

Second Goal - fast guys and lazy tackle - but really lazy mids before hand....

We just need to evolve to play a game more akin to Adelaide - no big physical mids - It does mean we need some new players...

Agree with the comments about D Mac and have never understood why some people on this forum talk him up. He has only scored 2 goals this season when he has started and managed to scored another two in one game off the bench. His overseas goal scoring record was similar and to call this bloke a "Central Coast Hero" is comical. I see why Lawrie recruited him, he fits in with our current squad, tries hard but unfortunately just lacks ability.

Lawrie's time is up. Thanks for the service and has done well with limited resources but has taken this team has far as it can go. His current recruitment justifies this. He has been found wanting tacticaly since Fergie has gone and it leaves me wondering who actually coached this side.

Outcoached; Farina knew that Queensland didn't need to do anything and the Mariners would gift a goal or two. Easy pickings really. The defensive frailties have been there all season and the coaching staff have utterly failed to erradicate them. When McLoughlan went off injured at the end of the first half McKinna should have brought on Mrdja and had three up front from the start of the second half and pressurised a short arse Queensland back four - he didn't, there was no pressure and his subs were too late. Queensland were allowed to play their game throughout and McKinna's tactics played into their defensive hands. And clearly McKinna is incapable of lifting the team for the big game, their early bluster evaporated faster than Craig Moore's sex life and by the death Queensland's 10 men were outplaying us. Time for McKinna to be moved upstairs where his undoubted contacts in football, his ability to spot rough diamonds can still be used but a younger coach is needed (And I have no idea if that should be Tobin given the continued defensive weakness of the team). And, yes, whatever happens, I will still go to the Mariner's games, even if they lose all of them

first half we missed so many opportunities to score, they had one corner and scored off it 'cause we couldn't close down attackers properly, after that, we fell away, 2nd half was crap.  Only good thing was Tiatto going off.  Is there a site that shows the game stats, % of play, corners etc?

Did have a great time in Bay 16 though, first time I've been right in there, the wife lasted about 20 minutes, she couldn't see shit.  Helps to be tall  :)

My first post - bag me if you like!

Our team has become too predictable. Too much dead wood. Firstly, get rid of Hutcho! Can't pass, can't tackle, too slow, gives away free kicks, goes missing! Sure, crosses a few good balls late in the game, then again, stuffs up a lot of free kicks and corners(near post corners - sick of them). I won't go to another game if he is in the side. Maybe McKinna has to have a look at himself if he thinks Hutch is going to do the job as a controlling central midfielder. At least Osman got stuck in!

Time has run out for the following:
Gumprecht(great player, past his best)
Mrdja(wasted a lot of time and money waiting for him - he doesn't make a difference)
Caceres(looks like he went to the same school of AWOL as Hutcho - why bother)
O'Grady(one good game doesn't make a season)
Clarky(exceptional player, great attitude, sorry - too old now)

Every other club in the league has brought through successful youth this year. Us? We gave some kid a couple of minutes against Adelaide.

Mariners management! Spend some of Jedas money and get a decent controlling midfielder to replace Hutch! Otherwise watching ACL is going to be very depressing.

We dont score because we dont create chances for our strikers. Thats not their fault, its the MF.

We put the defence under pressure because we are getting over run in MF.

Jedi covered that up but we have been horribly exposed by him going and LM doesnt supply answers because the fact is, a MF of Osman Caceres Gumprecht and Hutchinson is not good enough at this level any more

They try but the cold hard fact is that they are not good enough. Just adding Elrich wont fix it as IMHO he is not much better.

Just going out and recruiting gun strikers or better defenders wont make any difference whatsoever.

And as for blaming the keeper for whats in front of him................

top 1st post.

The other thing that shits me about Hutchinson is him wanting to take free kicks - Porter is far better than him but obviously "teachers pet" must take them

In my opinion, it seems as though the coaching staff have adopted the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mentality. Its got us this far, so we'll be fine. But now all teams know how to play against us, and it definitely needs fixing.

Its going to be a long ACL if nothing is changed.

We seem to be wondering what we need to do to win a game. In the last four matches we have been well in the match until we give away a soft goal and we drop our heads.

I can't blame them for giving up last night after the softest penalty I've ever seen. It was beyond a joke. Williams was close enough to see that O'Grady didn't even touch Nicholls and has no excuse. You can't blame O'Grady for that.

I'm seriously considering not going again. I can cop my team losing but I can't cop game after game of bad referreeing. I took two people who had never been to a game before and one of them commented "what is wrong with the referee - he's terrible". Says it all really.

I wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall in the boardroom just now because surely Gorman,Turnbull etc are thinking the same as most of us in regards to McKinna and our tactics etc.

Whether they have the balls to do something about it is another matter.

I think McKinna has done a lot for this club and in some respects still does. But as far as the team on the park is concerned I think he hit the wall a while back and is incapable of taking this team any further. Our squad is as good (or bad) as most in the a-league but imo any creativity is being stifled by McKinnas tactics.

Same shit every week whether it's working or not.

A 9500 crowd to a final should be a warning sign to the hierarchy that people know shit when they see it and not everyone will pay to watch it.

Must have been watching that game through seriously yellow tinted glasses, Stringers got him and its a penalty - was a very silly penalty.... We all love our team but to suggest Williams had an influence on the game is laughable. Williams refed fine - no issues from me

...and what was up with the crowd. I was getting bad looks for daring to yell and support my team in the middle of the members area. Time and again I tried to get them going with the Marinators and no go. If you're going to go to a game get involved people. If you support the team vocally they will lift and give you a better experience.

Oh and leave the kids at home for night games. They ruin it for others if they don't want to be there.

Just got home. Won't comment on the game, cause, well y'know.

What I will say is we need to find a replacement for Jedinak quicksmart. We havent won and game without him and only scored three goals. (and let in about 10)..

also, can the trumpet guy please, please please stop. We've moved on etc.

Hi Brennan,
we DO need a quality DM, but since the club got $800k from jedinak's transfer there really isnt any excuse not to have one. Isnt that the whole reasoning for transfer fees? The problem therefore are the clowns holding the pursestrings. They put Boogaard in and think they can pocket the fees while expecting crowds to waste good money to watch our team lose.
Rather than lamenting the loss of Jedinak, we should be crying for the heads of the beancounters who are short changing us.

Boogaard is a good defender but i think too much is being asked of him.
I was never a great fan of Jedinak, except for his later ability with free kicks. (Someone needs to develop the same expertise in this area now that he has gone).

If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. Now I wonder why the names Mrja and Kwasnik came to mind?

Well you must need glasses. Watched it on replay at normal speed many times and it aint a penalty. Williams was beyond a joke.

If you have no issue with that then I feel sorry for you.

Have you ever thought that the reason people take their kids is that they have to. They don't have a choice. Sorry but if its Bay 16 I understand - in the Grandstand different story. If they buy a ticket they have the same right as you or I. Yes I'm on the high horse because I for one am in that boat. Wife, 3 kids and yes my youngest doesn't always watch and get involved but you know what we are there supporting our team as a FAMILY. Why would I leave a kid who is 5 years old at home....

Have you thought one of the reasons the crowd wasn't into singing was the fact that they felt, like other have stated, that it was like a bad rerun of the last 4 games.... Also why don't the Marinators produce a songbook and pass them out - that way others would know what is being sung...

Whatever - you obviously need to watch Stringers left leg, hit Nichols right calf.... trust me its not a heavy touch but the fact is in any league around the world that was a penalty - If you were the attacker you would have wanted it again...

Feel sorry for me all you want - couldn't care less what you think really - there are enough others on here who have already stated it was a penalty.. People I know and have some respect for...

One of the Sydney supporters caught me on the way home from work this morning and commented he can't believe our ineptitude at scoring with all the fire power we have. I hope the club sees past politics and puts Sash on the pitch to start, he's way too strong to leave off. I received a message saying the boys played like rubbish, yet they didn't play all too poorly, they just didn't convert. AGAIN! Some poor club in the ACL will wear the brunt of all the missed opportunities, I hope, and we will see a huge score with everyone on target at the same time. Let's hope it all falls into place next week!
