Mariners v Queensland Minor Semi Finals

The crowd was very disappointing and below the much discussed break even figure of 10k and the board should note the warning signs for the ACL and V5.  :headbutt:

Why should the fans in increasing tough economic times that sells it's best player at a critical stage of the season, sure we all know that we wouldn't keep Jedi forever but why do it at the business end of the season not wait until the next transfer window when he could have helped the push for 1st place in the league and finals and also be available for the 1st group stage of the ACL. Surely some useful performances in the ACL would have also helped bump up (imho) a very low fee of AUD 800,000.  :soapbox:

Having said that, selling Jedi doesn't account for Pedj showing us all why he played state league football last season, and Matt Simon reverting to his v3 trick of wearing his boots on the wrong feet and subsequent butchering all of the few chances that have come his way or why the only striker has who has looked like scoring since Christmas has been starting on the bench.  :redcard:

Then again after all these negative posts, it'll typical Mariners to roll their selves up and go and get a result in SunCorp next week - doh note to self re-read para 2!

Ha - because Boz would have saved both those - oh hang on VanDyk scored a penalty against Boz as well....

I agree some of Dannys footwork has not been as good as it was but to suggest that Danny is shite and that anyone would have done better last night is a bit of a laugh....

In a way I hope there is no miracle next week, all that would do is provide Lawrie with ammunition to say everything is ok the players we have + Kwasnik can do the job in Asia and in Version 5

...  Is there a site that shows the game stats, % of play, corners etc?

Did have a great time in Bay 16 though, first time I've been right in there, the wife lasted about 20 minutes, she couldn't see shit.  Helps to be tall  :)

http://www.a-league.com.au/Scoreboard_HAL/0000240232/scoreboard.html

I always laugh at those in the Bay who talk about events in the game at the other end ... you can't see shit ... I was in Row F ... total shocker for watching all but close action, but very good for supporting!  My daughter's boyfriend wandered off up to top level eastern stand

I pity anybody who is spending money to go and watch the boys play in Brisbane next weekend. If they're any chance of turning it around and playing past next week, they need more aggression in the mid-field, stop watching how skilful the Roar players are and actually GET IN THERE and CHALLENGE THEM! As for our boys up front- they need to stop thinking about shooting for goal and just SHOOT FOR GOAL! Damnit I am getting so sick of watching them take 5 seconds trying to set it up like it's a penalty kick and then losing the ball or f**king it up anyway.

I don't know what Lawrie has been saying in the sheds at half-time these past few weeks, but I would love to know if the gameplan changes at all from the first half to the second. I remember last year when we went down 2-0 to the Scum in the first leg, the amount of confidence on here that we could come back at Bluetongue and win 3-0 (which we did). How many people now have confidence of any sort that we can do that at Suncorp? Does such a person exist?

Will be very interested to see the questions I get asked for AFW this week. I'm not going to sugar-coat it, you can be sure of that.  :soapbox:

LOL at people thinking it wasnt a penalty.

From behind the goal you get a good view of those sorts of tackles (if not much else) and there was a collective sigh BEFORE the ref pointed to the spot.

Stupid foul but nailed on penalty - which is why the players didnt protest.

When players think there has been an injustice they fire up (like at Tiatto) but they know when its a penalty.

Loyalty from the top down is probably the best thing about our club compared to say, SFC. However, that can hurt you if you refuse to see the obvious.

People saying they are not going again because we are not winning and playing poorly is laughable TBH. You think ANY club is going to be winning every season? Newsflash - doesnt happen.

Yes, I am bitterly disappointed at our strategy of building up the "its all different this week" or "we have worked hard all week and are ready to go" followed by the same. Exactly the same. Crap that we got the week before followed by "We didnt play well enough, we gave away soft goals, we will work on it in the week". Repeat until sacked

...and what was up with the crowd. I was getting bad looks for daring to yell and support my team in the middle of the members area. Time and again I tried to get them going with the Marinators and no go. If you're going to go to a game get involved people. If you support the team vocally they will lift and give you a better experience ....

Because there was NO members area ... FFA insist on taking over ticketting for home fans!!

Over a season the area gets to know who is around them and get a feel for what the group will do ... in my normal area there were hardly any of the season ticket holders

ps - if there is one team that CAN go and turn last night around, its probably us

And BJ, people who go on away trips go for so many more reasons than actually winning a game of football.

They go to support their club, they go to have a great time with like minded people. The odd beer or 10 may be consumed.

I have 10x more fun away than I ever do at BT

This is exactly what happened earlier in the season when we came from behind to draw 3-3 against Adelaide and Sydney.

The comeback masked the defensive frailtys that got us into the situation in the first place.

Good point.

If we had lost 3-0 to both Adelaide and Sydney, we would have had these discussions much earlier in the season

Oh, and Jedi played in both those games

The 4 of us made a last minute decision to go last night thinking surely they couldnt be that bad again, how wrong we were.Changes need to be made starting from the top if we are going to be competitive in the acl and next season, fans have already started to show their disatisfaction by staying away last night, and i will definately be thinking twice before parting with my hard earned to see that crap.Good luck to all you die hard supporters travelling to qld you would probably get more enjoyment staying home and watching a game of marbles.definately cheaper.

Yep but we played the 4-3-3 as well..... We have lost the mongrel we had back then.... we pushed Victory around for 3/4 of a game at the same time (Dylans Offside goal) but after that and Jedi leaving we have become like butter left out on a day like today - SOFT

Whatever happened to 'Mariners til I die!'???

Yes, we are in a form slump. Yes, our season will likely be over next week. It could be worse. We could be Newcastle......

IMO, our defence is not 'that' shaky. We do make the occasional mistake, but every team is this comp does. I think it's better now than during the middle of the season. It's the midfield that is letting us down. We have no 'gun' midfielder to steady the ship and take command of the situation. Careras is one who many believed would provide attacking options, but he hasn't really clicked with the rest of the team, and has a suspect first touch. This, combined with our strikers going through a bad patch of form atm, means we aren't outscoring the opponents like we used to.

We do need something to change, most likely in the midfield. Form does not come back at a whim, something needs to happen.
