Kinda glad I didn`t waste the yen in the end, if what is being said on here and the match report at the A-League site is anything to go by...... and I know there`s the whole "we were down 2 last season" but last season, we were Premiers and a very good side when we wanted to be.  It seems this season has been a waste of time quite frankly - we`ve gone nowhere but backwards.

In all fairness, the league this season is infinitely stronger than last season, and the top 3 sides reflect that- Adelaide and Melbourne were always going to bounce back from their disappointments, and the only team that really failed to live to expectations (since Newcastle were never going to repeat their heroics anyway) was Sydney. So is it a matter of the team getting worse, or the competition getting better?

The club has potential to be one of the great clubs of Australian football. I love the friendly ambience of the Central Coast Mariners and have always enjoyed my days out in Gosford. But there is a culture of conservatism, where team matters are concerned, that is ultimately holding back the club from realising this potential.

im sorry but i must tell it like it is..
we wouldnt of lost 2-0 if pedj hadnt let YET ANOTHER goal in and marked his man, and tard o'grady didnt stick his leg out on purpose for nichols to fall over.
my question to everyone..
why pay good money to these professional players if theyre going to be lazy and pull stupid stunts in the box to cost a great team their respect and rights to a fair result... and ruin the hopes of every person that watched the game. .

9000 hopes in the stadium to watch a good match of soccer....
2 mariners to stuff it all up for everyone and waste everyones time because of their lack of competence. GET RID OF THEM.

AND why pay money to watch them do it?

pretty much the exact reason they had 9 thousand at the match and pretty much the reason i wont go to another mariners game again.

I think everyone's being a bit harsh on McKinna. McKinna is a good tactition, great talent scout and brilliant man manager. Remember, we had a bad season in V2 and everyone was writing us off saying that the Mariners making the GF in the first season was a fluke. But look what happened in V3! We won the premiership! And it was Lawrie's genius that won us that shiny premiers plate and is the reason why we're in the Champions League. We might be having a bit of a shocker at the moment, but the club is in very good hands.

Better to change things now, than go the way of Sydney and Newcastle and have a disastrous season, eh?

I'm loathe to play musical chairs with managers, who I believe must be given time. However, there's a fine line between giving managers time and taking the club as far as one can go, and McKinna is very close to that line with his inability to alter his tactics to effectively counter the opposition.

Calling Zeman, Galeone, Buckley, Muller, Leclerq, Diaz Novoa, anybody???

I'll give you that much for V2, which can be excused by injury woes.

V3 was a brilliant season for the Mariners, but it was also a very ordinary field where nobody really stood out and the quality of football served up was very average.

We, as in Australian club football generally and not any one club in particular, have to aim higher than the mediocre sludge being served up in this league. Because let's face it, our league is tactically deficient in terms of coaching and players, and it can only be fixed up if we have a major coaching revolution from the bottom up. It's not going to help players, who will be up for Socceroos selection or moves abroad, either. And it won't help one bit in the ACL too.

McKinna's tactical deficiencies have become painfully glaring in the closing stages of this season, even though other coaces in this league can be as bad or worse.

Central Coast Mariners have a golden opportunity to lead the way in such a revolution, and show everybody how it's done.

I see where ur coming from Blastbum

But we were only missing Heff and the pie eater tonight

Our overall recruitment for V4 was not as good as we hoped and Jedi masked that for most of the year

Just speculating that maybe its time for a change

good hands?
those hands have lead us to 4 losses in a row and a terrible preparation towards the champions league.
plus who's going to take us into the new season? lawrie? tobin? lyall?
we are talking about old men who are past their worth now.. and this has been proved in the latest form and latest media interviews. they have no positive outlook, they have no answers to give. :tophat:
from a spectators point of view it seems as though they are relying on the luck of the scottish.
why try to wash off the tarinsh and start again when the problems are always going to be there... week in and week out...
get some new hands. it looks for a much better outlook.

Sir Alf Ramsey's lack of tactical flexibility is considered to have cost England in 1970 (when they had, according to many fans, an even stronger side than 1966) and then in the 1974 qualifiers when they failed to beat Wales at home and Poland in both games, thus knocking England out. It was those later failures that cost Ramsey his job.

This is just one example of how stubborness can cost you in the long run.

A lot of negativity here...

I wouldn't get rid of Lawrie, but i wish he would change some things. Who ever said Hutch is a protected species is spot on.

It seems as though Lawrie has the shits with Sash... Mum said there was a game a couple of weeks ago and Lawrie spent the entire game yelling at him... he hasn't started since. Is he punishing Sash for something (maybe signing for Jets?). I am no massive Sash fan or anything, but he can score goals in big games, and he links well with Matty.

I just went on Foxsports.com.au... the report referred to Tiattos send off as 'controversial'.
All you have to do is watch his first incident and see that he should have been given a straight red. Frank Lampards challenge on Alonso wasn't half as bad as that.

I would love to see the game on tv as there were a number of incidents that made the referee look very bad. I don't usually complain... but tonight was terrible.

- The challenge on Matty in the box  early in the game.
- The countless times Matt was pulled and held by the defenders, when Qld got a heap of free kicks for the same thing.
- What appeared to be a high foot from Zullo then a high foot from Nichols (both near the face I think) before they got the penalty. Then in the second half, a Mariner had their foot about chest high, Miller turned his back and got a free kick for high foot.

It didn't really lose us the game but it was rather frustrating...

Big call .... when MV lost Fred at the end of Hal 2, it took them a season to recover he was that important to there team and so much of everything they did was around Fred.

IMO Jedi was more important to the Mariners than Fred was to MV... it's just very hard to replace the key defensive player and the player that starts and creates most of the effective go forward.

As for LM... if replaced it should be like Sydney with a top overseas coach... LM is as good as any current A-League coach.

Small rant ... the crowd was given as 9, 500 it seemed a lot more to me, that stadium tonight was way more than half full ... no idea how the crowd is counted maybe freebies are not included but for Fark sake I was on the Eastern side home end and our side was packed the western stands where more than half full with the HE about may a third full ... anyone else think the crowd was a lot more than 9, 500.

*Qld at 2-0*

slater: if Qld score one more at home the Mariners will need 5

nope - away goals rule *only* applies in the case of aggregate scores being tied. if qld scores at home, we need 4 (to win 4-3 on aggregate).

Good call on Matty ... it was more like a park side match in many ways with the coach of side A say kick the shit out of that gun in side B. Matty had the shit knocked out of him all night and got little protection from officials...

What was worse? The crowd or the pitch? I can't decide.

That is all - CCM were 2-0 down last year too.

It's a totally different situation

You guys had a full house at bluetongue cheering the team on last year.

Now you are behind 2-0 against the form team of the competition and without a guy called Jedinak in the side

I feel like I've hired out 'Meet the Spartans' 3 times in the past month. I keep paying money to watch the same s**t. I don't know what the hell the team does at training during the week, but it doesn't seem to be anything that improves themselves. There is no enthusiasm, no get-go. Just the same ineptitude and lack of initiative on the pitch. I don't want to open up the sports section of the Express Advocate on Wednesday and read about how Lawrie was dissappointed in the boys after tonight and that the team is ready to play a big one in the coming match- they've had enough excuses and failed to deliver each time.

You get the impression the boys are all more concerned about the ACL and couldn't give a damn about the remainder of the A-League season. Going to Suncorp and winning at least 2-0 is possible with the current team, but based on form it looks highly unlikely. What is it now, 370 minutes without scoring a single goal?
