Agree that Doig is a quality defender. But why talk about Travis - he has a virus and couldn't play and Wee-Mac didn't set the world on fire when he came on.

I think Lawrie got it just about right today with the exception of Simon who has been poor for weeks. Our first half was very good. We should have had at least one if not two penalties and an indirect fre-kick in the box in the first half. The game should have been out of sight.

Second half - when Hutch and Heff came off our midfield fell to pieces and we reverted to long balls. Was this the fault of the substitutes or the fact that both teams were stuffed in the heat by that time.

LOL wtf? "Furries came for a point"? Are you serious? CCM can consider themselves lucky not to have lost that in the second half, only one team looked like winning.

Your upsides are that Porter could fill that RM role for the next decade, and that your CBs are solid.
The downsides are you're losing Boogard and Heffernan, and Bojic should be playing right-back. Oh, and McGlinchey in form seems to be a flash in the pan. So so ordinary.

Virus - yeah right. :piralaugh:

Positives:

Totally positive support from all parts of 23 tonight - felt more like an away game for support.

Nik was great, worked his arse off - keep that up please

Heff was a close 2nd for MoM - great performance

Playing at RM at RM works - who knew?

Until they scored we were playing really well.

Negatives

Matty - lucky to last as long as he did TBH

Surely the worst 45 minutes of football we have ever played at BT in the 2nd half? Clueless rabble doesnt begin to sum it up. We had no midfield as both Pedj and Hutch were worse than rubbish. Mindless hoofing from the back, no shape, no creativity or anything else. We are damned lucky we didnt lose.

We werent unlucky, we werent robbed by the ref, we were shit.

Boogs passing now rivals Pedj's for the worst in the club surely? Just lumping aimless balls forward helps no one except the opposition.

Wee Mac just meant we played with 10 men really.

Eurosnobs in Lolerpool jerseys make me vomit, support an HAL club you wankers

And FP, people around me on the walk back to the car muttering that they kinda hoped we lost because then the club might act is a bad, bad sign. I will continue to go and continue to support but many people wont and a bad end to the season (or even the spoon) will decimate our member base.

Finally, if you have only 1 full back (Heff) but both he and Chicken can play as Wing Backs, wouldnt you try 352 just once?

Umm because if Travis 'was well enough to play' he would have made a difference.

We missed having Travis tonight, Disco Nik was impressive and deserving of MOM imo. Both Simon and Bojic are struggling and should play a few games in the youth team.
tbh travis' form has been off for a while too, we dont really have anything at present to give us a kick start - good to see mrdja picking up his act though i was impressed with him tonight and on nye, shame that the team as a whole is playing utter shite

Still think Travis would have added that little spark we were lacking in the 2nd half. Thing with Travis is he can be off his game and still better than some options available to us.

Totally correct.

A poorly performing Travis or Weemac is far more dangerous than a firing Hutch, Bojic or Porter.

Ridiculous post.

Hutch or Bojic "firing" have both scored quality goals and had great games.

A poorly performing Weemac has offered NOTHING the last 6 weeks. No goals, no assists, nothing.

A poorly performing Travis kept passing the ball to the opposition last week when his first touch gave him that long with the ball.

I like both these players. But its a stupid comment that just belittles two of our players.
And all this resurrected "Lawries favourites" and the looked over victims bullshit, is just bloody tiresome at best.

Take a snap poll of people leaving the ground..... Normal fans not you die hards who wear Lawrie tinting glasses.
Most people laugh at Hutcho/Bojic/Porter/Clarke/Kwas.

We were looking at coming stone cold last this year but Doig/Travis/WeeMac gave us a bit of quality.
If they are injured or we choose to drop them for our own local superstars, then we will get the wooden spoon.
Its unpalatable but true.

Interesting that I  can't help but notice Lawrie was also actually the one responsible for bringing in said quality in the first place ;)

But hang on... I'll just "pop" me wee glasses off for a minute...

Ahh.. thats better....

Honestly, wombat, I have no trouble dropping anyone for anyone else....
My problem is that Weemac has been absolute pants for 6 games and Travis last two weeks were awful. You claim a biased viewpoint, but I think its pretty reasonable to want Weemac and Travis to play well before I'll start shouting from the rooftops for them being the answer to our problems and that it must be favouritism if they are ever benched.

Both are young and have excellent potential but are proving heavily inconsistent this season. Our missing number 10 role is a big part of our teams problem atm imo.
I don't need to move onto coaching favouritism conspiracies to make sense of what I'm seeing with the squad.

But clearly my views are biased by my glasses...
Are wombat tinted glasses are also available from the mariners marquee?
Or do you know if I can purchase them online through - still-jilted-over-andre.com?

"Most people laugh at Hutcho/Bojic/Porter/Clarke/Kwas."

Thanks for conducting that snap poll - are we talking 6 of the 6 and half that were there tonight who laugh at most of our staring 11? Or more?

I think it's interesting that so many of our players are a laughing stock, my family knows the bulk of the traveling Furries fans this week. Some of the Furry fans attended Mariners training this week and thought our team looked absolutely awesome.  After the first half, and inspite of the second tonight, they were very happy to get the point. I will have to inform them that half those players they were watching are actually to the "Normal fans" nothing more than a source of amusement.

Can confirm it is because our coach favours the guy who played in his position tonight because he is a "coast superhero/total laughing stock"

Do not believe the rumours that he got his natural position back this week because he was best on park last week and Travis was total pants.

Note: This issue is not open for debate.

When I first started following, Matty was a bench player who "couldn't hit the side of a barn with a handful of wheat" to quote Lawrie. Myself & my son-in-law had the opinion that he was trying too hard, once he got his first goal and gained confidence he would be fine.
The next season he scored in the first match against the Scum and he went from strength to strength (until Sasho was dumped, but that's another story).
This season he's playing like his first season. Maybe he's trying too hard, maybe he's lacking confidence, maybe both, don't know. Maybe, as others have said, he needs some time in a lower grade to regain confidence.
What I believe he does need is an experienced forward leader to guide him. We need to remember he's only young, not hugely experienced. The fact that Matty's been subbed while Nik has done 90 the last couple of games would seem to indicate that Nik is now the forward leader, but he's still working for another contract, so he may not be Matty's best guide, but there's no-one else right now. He might just have to do.
As for McBreen coming next season, on tonight's performance (admittedly only a short one), he's not going to be any better than what we have. He should have drilled the winner tonight, but it seemed he was looking for someone else to have the shot and eventually stuffed it. It looks now like he'll be replacing Dmac, but to me he doesn't look all that much better. His fresh legs put a tired defence under pressure, but he never really got a shot away, and apart from getting in the clear once as above, the guys shut him down fairly comfortably.

I deadset almost fell asleep at this game.
Fury were terrible, they always have been, and in the end we made them look good.
If it were any other decent side, we would of copped another hiding.
First half: Could of sworn i was watching a training session in the with the amount of crosses and chances we had.
The second half...Fury deserved to have of won it, hands down.
Pretty sure now, and have made my mind up, im not going back.
Would rather spend my time doing something else contructive than watch my team not have the heart to produce a decent result anymore.
I know im not the only one either, everyone through-out the stadium was getting so bored and frustrated the last 30 minutes, it was embarressing to observe and feel.
Porter last week = MOM
Porter this week = DOM (douche of the match)

If you arent going back, can I suggest that they are not your team after all?

Was it Porters superb cross for our goal or a ball hitting his heel and deflecting in that upset you?

:headbutt:

They've been my team since day one and will always be my team.
I didnt see the cross, got there late, but saw 88 minutes of football to observe him play like an under 18 C grade player, and shoot like one too.

Bullshit everyone was bored, there were a lot of people around where I was sitting who gave no indication of boredom, they were making too much noise. Frustrated yes, but not bored.
IMO, with the negativity of your comments, if you don't come back you probably won't be missed. How can you call them "your" team if you won't come to watch them? Are they only "your" team when they win? I've followed "my" team for 50 years (not the Mariners, the other one) and whether they're up or down I watch them play whenever I can.
Last year I bought a season ticket to see the Mariners, and I did so again this year, and I will do so for as long as I can afford to. I don't have ANYTHING more constructive to do than cheer on my team, win, lose or draw.
Be careful you don't trip as you get off the bandwagon.

Good post.

Why do people default to saying that the players aren't trying?
Bizarre, I'm sure they feel the pain of losing far worse than any of us do.
I don't get it.

Nor marinerheart-failure do I understand why you will quit on your team so easily while complaining about them being quitters?

People are unrealistic, all teams will slump sometimes, its just the way it goes, you have to learn to man up as a supporter and take it. You dont have to like it, bit if its truly "your team" then as a supporter you certainly need to be able to take it.

Also for the record, Fury played some good football in the second half.

I'm glad you enjoy wasting your time and money on poor football. I watched the game for what it was tonight, a poor display of football from 2 teams that deserve to be where they are on the league ladder.

There is a line and it was crossed tonight.

If you saw the look on peoples faces around me in the bays, not you in the wishful thinking area, you'd realise people won't stand for it much longer.

Speak for yourself brother, don't try to get us to believe everyone is defeatist as you. You're in the minority, and don't think for a moment you're not.
My time and money isn't wasted in supporting my team, I love it. And for your information I WAS out in the bays and I DID see the looks on other people's faces. And MOST of them didn't look like they weren't coming back. By the way, where is the "wishful thinking area", I don't think I've seen it on the stadium plan.
And finally, please change your nick, TRUE supporters find it extremely offensive. Mariner-faint-heart might be more acceptable.

Good post. But tell me spikey boy old son.
If your doing something wrong.. and you keep doing it wrong, but believe it will get right eventually.
What is the result, time and time again?
And how frustrated and annoyed do you get that it isnt working and your still pursuing it knowing it is wrong? You're wasting your time.
Do it right, do it properly and ill be there to watch and enjoy it.
I have an opinion, and Ive chosen a name and therefore its not going to change, no matter how hard you blow the bugal.
I speak for the families, the children, and the fanatics that pour their soul into the team, week in and week out, Its not good ENOUGH.
